From my experience these braids are my favorite! They never get tangled because before I go to bed I put some leave in conditioner and run my finger through it and put it in a braid . I actually have them in right now and I can run my fingers through easily , I feel like the problem with her braids is she has more curls than braids and the person who did your hair maybe should’ve used thin curls but that’s my opinion I have very thin curls so if you guys want these make sure you keep your hair defanged and get more braids then curls 😌
Brie too many curls & synthetic hair was the issue, not the detangling because like I said, I detangled my hair everyday. But This was my first time with the style, You live & you learn. I know for next time. Thanks for the tips!
Oo I got them rn I’m gonna try this lol I got fussed at by my sister for getting them because apparently they are hard to manage and don’t last lol. My braids were like 190☠️
the one main problem with your braids is that you seem to have more curls than braids in you're hair and plus the brand of the curling hair you used should be considered too..... because some curly hair quickly gets matted than others
I was thinking that, too many curls. I think it would definitely be easier with less curls, mostly in places where you can see them, almost like accessories
Great advice.I’m a hairstylist and the first thing is there is too much loose hair out. only a little bit of loose hair should be added to the braids and it’s not necessary to add it to every braid, because then the style will be hard to maintain because it will mat and tangle. Those are bohemian goddess braids. Goddess braids are more manageable because the loose hair is only at the end. And using freetress water wave hair works pretty good
I did them a couple of months ago and added the hair in between a braid and to the ends, noticed that the ends weren't getting tangled as much but the middle parts were just unbearable
Definitely too much hair. I’m about to try this style next week and per another video I watched, it’s best to use one thin strand towards the end of the braids and I’m thinking of using the hair on every other braid.
@@cicislife1147 definitely cuz I've got this hairstyle and the braider did like make 15 curls and I didn't experince any tangling I just made sure I moused and sprayed a little water and I am good hope this helped 🥰💓
hi. what kind of human hair would u recommend? i want to be able to get the curly pieces wet & the curls still look good! i know it will definitely be more thank the synthetic hair just not sure what type.
I would suggest using human hair as opposed to synthetic for the leave out curls. Also using product (conditioner @ night and foam in morning) braiding into 4 sections is highly recommended. I love mine.
Glad u did this video cause my daughter wanted them and the hairdresser did not do what she wanted she gave her regular braids my daughter was so upset when she came home and I told her she was lucky cause synthetic hair will matte. I ended up putting flex rods and dipping the hair in hot water and she had different size loose curls which likes. Thank you I just showed her the video
I cut out my curls and bought new curls and crocheted a few in myself! very easy. I would suggest just getting regular braids and putting them in yourself. once they get matted you can take it out and have a regular braid style!
I'm no professional but i've loved braiding and experimenting with different hair styles for the 5 years (im 18 and i started braiding my hair at 13). I did bohemian goddess braids and i experimented using normal Xpression extensions. I did a normal box braid 3/4 of the length, once the whole head was braided, I did two massive braids, dipped the ends in boiling water to get nice curls. With the same straight extension pack, I braided small sections, put them in boiling water, left them to dry for an hour and crocheted them into my box braids. It worked a treat and didn't get all matted (i feel like the pre- curled hair is coarser or less smooth than the straight braiding hair so they matte quicker). It looked beautiful, lasted over 2 months and was super low maintenance considering the curly ends etc.
I did this with synthetic hair on my locs. Silk drops for maintenance made a WORLD of difference. Also, you can use fabric softener and water to detangle with your fingers. This style will last you just have to know what to use. I only had to touch up with the drops every 5-7 days along with keeping my scalp nourished.
Yesssss you hit this dead onnnnn. I learned this the hard way... My braids was looking all good and then the hair was looking all tangled and matted after about a week and a half..
Ok for future reference: if you dont wanna spend human hair money, use LESS synthetic curl pieces!! Basically your stylist just made the curls to close and wayyy to abundant! You gotta use the hair sparingly so it cant get stuck together. It will still get like that a little but it wont matte together like that basically the curls will just get a little frizzy
mine never ever mattes.. i seperate it regularly cut off any loose hairs and use mousse and serum to keep the curls neat also when you use very very loose curls they drop much easier.. the more friction and the dryer the hair more likely it is to matte. it isnt.. low maintenence, i agree but the idea that synethic hair equals matteing is kinda misleading.
This video is exactly what I’m going thru right now with this style lmao I have it as a crotchet . You’re 1000% correct when you say you need patience , mouse and time for this style & it’s not get up and go friendly. Thanks for this video ❤️💕
I was nervous for the same reason. I wanted to learn the hard way. I have this style going on two weeks. I have not had a single problem. Running my hair through it, put it up in a style, no tangling, only mousse. My stylist has clutch bundles so I just got really lucky THANKFULLY because someone would have heard from me. I’m sorry you had this experience with the hair style, hopefully you’ll try again with a different quality of hair because the style is stunning on you!
Thank you so much for this! I just saw someone with this style and it is sooooo pretty but I never thought about the free hair and taking care of it. Thanks so much for telling the real side
Thank you for your honesty. I was just about to book an appointment and something told me to do a little more research. I am going with the Knotless Box Braids.
Swear I was just about to put some in my head💯 so glad I saw this video because you are absolutely right... the style on other ppl be 🥰🥰. We don’t think about the maintenance🤷🏽♀️ thank you for keeping it 💯💯💯💯💯🙏🏽
Thank you for this advice. I currently have these braids in myself and having the same issue with it being tangled. I’ve had to cut the ends on some of them as they have become knots. It’s a shame because they are such a nice style but I agree so much maintenance, putting moose in them and Gel just so they detangle is a nightmare. I also work out a lot so when I tie my hair up with a hairband the curls tangle up. I will definitely use some of the comments advice next time and use human hair Curls and see if it makes any difference. This is my favourite braiding hairstyle though so I’ll definitely do it again.
I totally understand it can for sure be a nightmare but I too love this style it’s so pretty. Lmk how the human hair works for you if you try it and what kind you get.
Thank you for this video. I was about to install them but I am a low maintenance person so this is clearly not the style for me. You're right whenever I see people with them in their hair looks so luscious but I guess they are really doing a lot to upkeep it.
I was gonna do this cause a girl on my flight had them lookin bussin but I’m literally getting braids so I no longer have to deal with my hair so thank u so much for this. Ignorance ain’t always bliss
Exactly! I tried this style about 3 times before i figured out you have to use human hair. I bought two affordable curly/wavy bundles from Amazon and for the curly hair part and haven't have no issues!
I definitely needed to hear this before I got my teen daughter head like this cuz she been begging for them!! So I’m definitely using human hair for the curly part!! Thank Kee💋💋
My hair stylist recommended this for my next appointment, when I got my butterfly locs. I saw it and already knew it would be too much up keep and once I get my hair done in a protective style it's on the go. I didn't pay all that money and sat down all those hours to still have to do all this hair maintenance.
I just got them last night and I was already on my way to this result you're having. So when I got back from the salon, I noticed that I had more curls than I had hoped for. Everything jaming together. So I got my sister to help out. She had to select all the flyouts, wet them added hair wax and make them shorter than the length of the braids. Now I didn't mind the length of the individual flyouts. She just trimmed them according to how we felt it would be good and if the fly-out had a rough end which apparently almost all of them did which was causing the entire braids to come together. As soon as she was done the hair felt and looked better. I went to bed without a bonnet cap and it still looked good the next morning. I think constant attention is required. Sorry 💔 about your experience. You should try it again. It's a beautiful style
I’m so happy your sister was able to help you out because my experience was definitely miserable. However I did love the style in the beginning. It’s a beautiful hairstyle
I get synthetic crochet curly or wavy hair all the time. In addition to tying up at night and using product, you can go through with very small scissors and cut out the fuzzy parts. It will keep your hair looking fresh for longer, but it is time consuming. Not necessarily a get up and go style, but I love it.
Thank you. I'll keep this in mind. I found a lady who said she could do this for me. I was very excited...until I watched your video. I don't have time to maintain this hairstyle. I think I'll go with box braids.
I just got this hair style 2 days ago and I got it done at the shop at first I was going get some cheap curly hair but the stylist told me the best hair for this style is human hair in which I had to get its was $23 dollars a pack for the human hair (you can get it wet) and if you want a full look you’ll have to get 2 packs .
You can get a mixed blend that will work as well. I used Que Milky Way Water Bulk hair. It's a human/synthetic blend. Just as everyone else said. It's all about the hair in addition to how much curls you add.
What’s crazy is I thought it was just me because I did them myself and used the braiding hair that I curled myself. It’s nice to know I wasn’t tripping.
Lol thats why I always do crochet hair for stuff like this... The curly hair is always my go to but it always gets old the fastest especially because I don't wrap my hair ever 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Your so gorgeous btw
I'm about to get them but I'm going to use human curly hair for this reason thank you for this video 🥰 sorry you are going through this its exactly how I felt when I got my faux locs so frustrating
I think it still looks good under the circumstances,,but usually when ppl get that length, its going to tangle, braids rub up against each other especially when you lay dwn,you can't really wrap it or tie down
I see a lot of ppl say use human hair. And you can but if you are on a budget... Freetress is a good brand to use. Also wrap your hair up at night. Friction from rubbing can Matt it like that. When driving bring your hair to the front also. Use less curly hair and use a moose, conditioner or a detangle spray if it starts to tangle a little. I never have a problem when I add this hair to my real locs. Sometimes I want a boho look and do this to it.
I used freetress hair.. I moussed...everyday, detangling spray, wrapped it up every night. This just wasn’t a good style for me but I plan to try it again with less curls. I feel like there were way too many curls which was why it matted
I just took mine out and loved them. I didn’t have any issues with that. I wore my big bonnet at night. I used mousse and oil sheen. Mine were nice and thick too. She also used synthetic hair, the curly hair didn’t start to shed until the day before I took them down.
Girl, mine lasted for no more than a month. I ended up cutting ALL of the crochet hair out, and still have the box braids. I’ve never felt so much better when I finally cut them off
hi. what kind of human hair would u recommend? i want to be able to get the curly pieces wet & the curls still look good! i know it will definitely be more thank the synthetic hair just not sure what type.
I currently have these braids and I honestly think they looked even better the older the got. Also the hair you use makes a difference. This is a lot of loose hair left out. I love mine and I highly recommend
This style is so gorgeous. I am currently looking up videos on the style and after seeing yours I just made a call to the hair stylist and told her I will just stick with my usual boxed braids. Because like others when I first saw the hairstyle I wondered if it would start looking tacky after a period of time🤔.....I definitely don't have any patience when it comes to knotted hair. I will eventually get the style and just use the human hair everyone is recommending but right now I just don't have the time lol.
It's true, it gets really messy after a few days. I got some off brand fake ass curls for the curly part and it looked good on the first few days. But after a while it was clumping, coming apart, looking dirty af. My stylist recommend "WaterWave" curls. I haven't tried them yet but if I do I'll let y'all know. But once the curls get really bad, just take a sossor and cut them off. And then boom. Perfect amazing box braids. It's like two hairstyles at once. And you won't have to go through the trouble of taking them all out. I might get them again but in red this time. But if you do get bohemian, wrap them up and don't let them get wet. Also, don't brush it if you got some really bad curls. Get the WaterWave curled. I heard they're better! Hope this helped. ❤️🙂
Next time use Human curly hair. It does not tangle period. When you use synthetic curly hair, or course it’s going to tangle! Use human curly hair ladies for the goddess curly and kenekolan braiding hair for your braids. Simple fix.
Kasuba Chibuye I got mine done on Wednesday n u just maintain it using water n hair mouse I ain’t wasting money on braiding hair then curly bundles on top of that paying to get it done my hair ain’t napped up
When it comes to the synthetic and kanekalon textured hair, try adding a detangling product or some conditioner along with some oil. It should separate the tangles of those synthetic fibers and make it easier for the long run
I'm here just watching, not being rude but I'm laughing. The first time I see the style I loved it, BUT I've worn crochet before loose so I know the struggle! Thanks for letting them know, it's been on my mind and how to get info out. Great job!! ❤❤
i am about to get this style do i just put curl activator in my hair in the morning and run through the curls with my fingers then use mouse ?? also do you have any brand recommendations
I think you should give it a try again with human hair or bundles it lasted longer for me. The first time I got it I was in the same crisis as you but than my stylist suggested human hair. And I loved it. Best of luck ❤️
Np I understand your pain mine was nappy like that in 3 days. I got to the point where I cut the hair off the braid to make them look like just regular box braids. I refused to take them down because I paid so much money for them. I hope you do retry them if so give us a review and update.😊 ima new sub from Chicago 🥰
I too learned the hard way.. you did good for 3 wks.. I took mine out after 2.. I 🥴🥺.. So now I'm going to try human & see if it makes a difference as everyone says..
Since everybody gave you advice already I just want to say how pretty you are lol and also if you do get them next time adding a little of your favorite oil on them every night before bed helps too!
found this video a month into getting goddess braids. It’s been so irritating trying to maintain them with minimal knowledge going in. I work a really physically demanding job where i have to have my hair pulled back or in a bun most days. i thought this style would look super cute on me but i just don’t have the time to do the daily stuff they require sadly. thank you for letting the girls know before hand! i definitely would have gone for regular box braids again if i had seen this before 😭
THIS. Cause synthetic hair WILL tangle up with time. And for someone like me who has no time to take down my braids every 2 or 3 weeks I knew from the start that goddess braids are not for me. Beautiful and all but definitely not the hairstyle for busy people who don't have time to be changing their hair.
