Thanks. Your video had more things that other beginner videos assumed you know, so a good video for someone who knows nothin! Even some very pro videos didnt explain that the rod doesnt touch the metal but stays the width of the rod above it while welding. Great Job!

Thanks for sharing. Over the last 4 years I have had to learn how to weld on the job. First learned to tig stainless then I got a bunch of practice with wire feed. I personally prefer to tig weld. I am better at it and I think it's much cleaner. I've seen several coworkers stick weld but never tried it until recently. Again thanks for sharing you definitely helped...

Total welding n00b, here. Not only were you one of the best 'intro to SMAW' vids, but w/ you, I learned some very key details others omitted for whatever reason. I found your basic rules easy to memorize & after about 5mins of scratching to start an arc, I fell into my sweet spot & can repeat it about 80% of the time. Sometimes, IDK what went wrong, but something did. Thank you - subbed!

6013 is the most popular in the US for casual homeowner use. Pretty weldments, fast fill, ok in wind. Most field repairs here are 6011/6010 due to great penetration and tolerance to muck. We only dry for low-hydrogen applications. 7018 is a popular lo-hy here.

Hi! I took welding back in high school and I kinda enjoyed it but as a high school kid never thought of it as a career, now I'm in my late 30s and I would have loved to have learned and have finished it, I'm in need to weld a few things around the house and I need it too to restore my car, I have been watching some vids on the basics and how to start but I guess I misunderstood the title of the video, and as for the comments I thought I could find something useful too but it seems like most commentators came for different reasons, anyway your company seems to be a good one to work for cause you seem really happy and genuine when you talk and show all that you work with.

Well, a month later and I finished the trailer with my Amico 160D and all my welds turned out very nice and I've used the trailer to haul lots of metal, I'm getting into blacksmithing, so I'm going to be welding a forge together and the metal is much heavier than what I was using on the trailer. I have to wait for the weather to break, since I don't really have an inside shop yet that is heated. It's really cold out right now, the high today was 27 degrees and we are getting snow, sleet and freezing rain tonight and into tomorrow so, not conducive to welding outside. I will be building a shop for blacksmithing and the forge will heat it up nicely, so if I have to do any welding in the winter months, I should be able to do it in there. Anyway I digress, I just wanted to drop a line after watching your video again, I just feel really thankful to have found your video, which improved my welds immensely and given me a lot of confidence, when I approach a job now. Thanks to you! 🥽

My welding days are over but I still do the odd welding every now and again . Before I started welding I've been out working on farm jobs 5years , then working as a mechanic in a garage 3 years /and doing coach building 3years /then working as a fabricating welder 10years/ and later on as a cook asistan in restaurant, then being a hammerhand with carpentry work on building sites 4 years/to driving in heavy machinery in logging in the last almost 17years The one job I was really after was cabinet making but didn't quite get there . Nowadays I'm just a lollipop man on stop and go signs on traffic control with people who underestimate people like me (a bunch of know-it-alls who know nothing about the outside world ) . This welding video brings back good memories when I started young . A good video for all those who want to learn about welding .

When I started 40 years ago I hated the Clamp Electrode Holders due to small hands and strong clamp springs. A welder put me on to the "Bernard Short Stub" electrode holders and never used anything else. I bend rods all the time to get into places. I burn they up to the flux break and stop if it's a problem. Whatever works for you is great to get the job done. Take Care, Best Wishes.

There are times when bending your stick electrode is the only way to reach an area for welding. One common example could be a trailer hitch on a car, when you have to run a bead on the top but can only reach it from the bottom. TIG or MIG will never fit, but you can bend your stinger into a nice "J" and reach the right spot in a snap. The only down side, of course, is that the flux coating will probably fall off so you have no electrical insulation present at the bend.
