Hi Jo.....Been trying to record somewhat successfully sometimes with Graham but since you have been on the scene I'm now starting to get the jift and it's comes easier with you brilliant way of explaining it ...Thank you for this help Jo....keep up the great work as I'm loving it
Thanks Joe, these metaphors are really helpful... its hard to pick which one was most helpful, they all were!... but id say #2 experimenting with position is my pick
I like #1 and the nose. There is lots of info out there about mic position and selection, but this is the best clear ... especially for vocal recording! ... explanation of effect of distance from the mic.
I like the flashlight analogy - "shine" the mic on what you want to see. Also, regarding polar patterns, an omnidirectional mic can be thought of as a lantern - it lights up the whole room. A hypercardioid mic is a like flashlight with a very narrow focus that only lights up what you point it at.
Thanks. Excellent vid, Joe, again. How about one on single mic drum kit recording? Or, to go deep, what snare to use for a certain sound as you talked about your different guitars for different sounds?
