Sure, so do I. But a leader must win the election in order to become PM. Corbyn presided over the biggest electoral loss in almost a century. Sorry to be blunt, but given his age and his track record, he himself should step down and enjoy his retirement. Where I am in Hertfordshire, I am looking at voting Green, as the only reasonable option, now Labour, with Starmer at the Helm, and Mandelson in the background, pulling the strings, has clearly reverted to the tired old neoliberalism of Blair. I gladly voted Labour, under Corbyn, but can't lend my support to Starmer, as I don't vote neoliberal, no matter how much they care to wave the the bogeyman of another Conservative government at me, because the only tangible difference between the Tories for another term, and Starmer's Labour, would be a handful of token social policies, as a kindly dab of lube, before they pull your pants down with exactly the same Chicago school nonsense, and, apart from the super wealthy, who in their right mind wants that sh!t show? The labour party really doesn't respect democracy at all. I've been wanting to end my membership since Corbyn's leadership ended and this has spurred me on. Starmer has fought harder against the left than he has the far right. It's ridiculous that he wouldn't even adopt any of Corbyn's manifesto that was so popular. He has no vision and he drops his policies like hot cakes. This is reminiscent of Harriet Harman's leadership when she said that it wasn't labour's place to oppose the tories.

Starmer needs to explain his decision and if party rules weren't followed then he needs to justify that. The General Election needs a Labour Party that has the greatest appeal, purging the party will weaken it not strengthen it. Corybyn taking the Ken Livingstone approach would be so weak. It's so weak that any left wing member including MP's and Councillors would opt to stay. A mass resignation would send a message and the party would be put into a massive hole. A new party would have to form off the back of that. If a new left wing party formed in parliament, from the SCG, do we really think the trade unions would stay with Labour anyway? If Jeremy Corbyn experienced a tenth of the solidarity that Gary Lineker received, the left could show they were a united force and actually join together and campaign for something. Right now, staying in the Labour Party and eating bowls of shit is just embarrassing.

I was fascinated with your take on Jeremy Corbin, and the accompanying comment on interviewee responses. I watch Novara Media, assiduously, because your very down to earth commentary & your co-presenters are all worthy of high praise. I don’t necessarily agree with every view - there would be no little room for balanced debate, if we all agreed above or followed what is being said & giving one’s own interpretation. But the Jeremy Corbin issue is quite fascinating - although, not having been a member of the PLP or Leader of the Opposion, I have been a card carrying member of the CLP (Constituency Labour Party) for over fifty years. And yes, I was a member of the same left faction of the party, as well as being Chair of my District Branch. Last year an investigating team finally resurrect an email I wrote in response to one sent ‘o personally’ to me signed by Angela Raynor . This was a flippant remark in response to her exhorting me to sign up for Facebook - which I personally regard as a devious and even disturbing social media platform. I have long ago binned the emails, as they were exchanged in January 2030. Apparently not so, the investigative team of the Executive members of the CLP. As in Jeremy Corbyn’s case, I have been deselected from standing as a Candidate for the upcoming District Council… at the time, there were no other Candidates, who would be competing with me in my own Ward - apart from the Tory Candidate, to whom I narrowly lost in 2019 & would have easily won in May. Alas, it is not to be, needless to say, I shan’t be voting for anybody who is or has replaced me - the CLP are hoping to gain a majority of wards in the May election. However, I have been told by many of those who I know, in the district, that they have rather taken my view that deselection has left them rather unhappy. In an email report, ‘I may be likely to bring the CLP into disrepute’. I quorted Arthur Koestler, in replying that perhaps I should expect a bullet delivered to the back of my head in a cellar. There was no laugh. Or for that matter, a reply.😊

I think Jeremy Corbyn would win standing as an Independent Socialist (or whatever label he preferred). He is hugely popular and very well known in Islington North. He is, however, a very rare kind of politician - a genuinely humble, nice guy. Does he have the ego for such a fight? He has the passion and depth of political conviction, for sure, but that's not the same thing. Ken Livingstone is not a good comparison. He DID have the ego, bags of it, arguably too much. I agree, however, that the "Livingstone option" of not dragging others out of the Labour Party would be the way to do it. There's no shortage of left wingers, "the wrong sort of Jews" and other good folks chucked out of the Labour Party in the last couple of years, is there? I'm sure many of them would be delighted to do the leg work of campaigning for Corbyn

It is a fundamental difference. The right is based around heirarchies and deference. To them, disagreement and discussion is a sign of weakness. The left are inherently collaberative. To the left, discussion, argument and debate is a strength because it shows wide involvement (with the obvious qualifier that the arguments are made in good faith, something the right and centrists tend not to do. They just lie.). The fact that our media ALWAYS shows discussion as a weakness betrays the inherent biases in our media and polical class.

firstly, I was never a labour supporter until last year. I also never thought the corbyn was the right party leader. He has good ideas, which I would be happy to support, but it almost felt that he had to many different views and policies from what once was, new labour. It is imperative that when you feel the course needs to change, you are patient, and take it step by step. No one benefits from 'extreme' change (look at Truss, that silly cow). Anyhow, I do believe that it is wrong, that any party big wigs, should not be able to oust members, in the way that they intend to do with Corbyn. I have seen this over the decades with the conservatives as well. I find this a strange way of managing a political party. It's almost like runnning a business. Where is the democratic element in this? I agree that you need to be strong and have diversity within (any) a )party. It's the same when MP's are forced to vote in a certain way, when things are controversial. Quite clearly MP's have a concience and should NOT be punished when voting against their own party. Finally, it is outrageous really, that an MP can be dismissed (but has been voted in by the constituents) and you put a new candidate in his/her place.
