So far I'm very impressed with the Sherpa Roof Rack and installation was pretty easy. But there's always some tips and tricks to learn that would have saved me some time if I had known it before hand. Here are 5 that can help you out.

Toyota does not use red loctite on factory mounting bolts. It is a red colored sealant. If red loctite was used the bolts would be extremely difficult to remove without heat.

I have a whistling type noise at speeds 60 and above. It gets pretty significant at 70. I installed the fairing flush with the bottom of the side rails as recommended.

I haven’t had that on mine yet but I haven’t pushed 70 too often

Thanks for the tips I'm planning to buy one . Buy does it make a lot of sound when you driving at 60 or 80 mph?

Some people have said this but I personally have not noticed any increased road noise. Part of me wonders if proper installation minimizes the road noise.

I want a full rack but I have a sunroof and I like to ride with it open, is there a way to leave off the cross bars over the sunroof? Also, is there a lot of wind noise?

Yes the crossbars are very modular. You can remove the crossbars over the sunroof. And then either leave them removed or reinforce the sections in the rear. Your choice it’s very easy to add and remove. I haven’t noticed any wind noise. But everyone’s install is different and experience different levels of wind noise. Personally I’m very careful and diligent with all my installs so that may be why I have no wind noise

I’ve been seeing a few comments online that people were having leaks. Do the factory bolt holes somehow have a passthrough design into the interior cabin or it’s completely sealed?

So I don't know the exact skeletal design of the body/frame and how that integrates with the roof's metal panel as well as the interior cabin fabric. But yes, the roof's panel does not have a perfect seal with the bolt holes. There's enough space there where water can seep through which will drain into the cabin ceiling. But there are some guarantees. I have yet to experience any leak issues and all I did was follow the Sherpa guidance which I showed in this video. Also if you want a secondary layer of guarantee, then use some kind of caulk around the bolt holes. That should help as well.

Mine leaked bad and had to take it apart and realized I had put 2 of the rubber mounting blocks on backwards. Just put back together and didn't leaked when I washed it. I guess time will tell now.
