A Cyclist learns the HARD way the meaning of Anticipation.. Observation.. Brake Retardation, and why it might be a good idea to wear some Head Protection.
I was a lorry driver for 52 years, and I cycled 14 miles too and from work for most of that time,, It really annoys me when some cyclists seem to think that the rules don't apply to them, i hope motorists and other road users accept that we're not all idiots.
well said. It seems to me there are two ends of the cycling spectrum that cause problems; The part time riders like the kid last week who was riding down the pavement, across the junction I was pulling out from, and travelling left to right, so I'm looking right around a big hedge when this kid appears right in front of me. If someone had signalled me to go- then bang. The other is the 'professional' rider or lycra clad club member trying to outdo his personal best for getting across the city, with an attitude of superiority after he's checked his carbon footprint indicator on his wall chart before setting out. They are all gangster until some driver doesn't see them and they're sitting on the pavement, covered in snot with no teeth.
Yup, tailgating another cyclist and not giving enough space should anything happen. If that other cyclist wasn't in front of him he could have easily have ridden into a pedestrian. Funny how cyclists are the first to complain whenever they feel they are being tailgated!
I cycle thousands of miles a year on city roads, and I hate arrogant riders who ignore traffic signs and blow through them like they do not exist. They give all of us a bad name.
I cycle to work every day - in all weathers, even though it's often -20 in the winter. I also stop for pedestrians on zebra crossings, and have been pretty close to having some idiot behind ride straight into me. Far too many people (cyclists, drivers, and not least pedestrians) have far too little respect for the world around them and seem to think they are in some sort of bubble.
@@tedunguent156 Free gym membership and you essentially get paid to exercise. Save an absolute fortune. I just started cycling to work a few months ago and we have managed to drop 1 car and I am saving around £50 a week in fuel let alone insurance, tax and maintenance etc. Best thing I ever did. Savings for the year will be just over £4k. Dont get me wrong took a few weeks get used to it and if Artur is riding in -20 then wow. Although if dressed appropriately it will be possible.
I'm a cyclist, and I hate this type of behavior. We want to be respected by other road users, so let's start by showing respect ourselves, to other people and the rules. These entitled idiots give motorists an excuse to abuse us on the roads.
wingless locusts! 😜 BTW, I also cycle so I am not being racist. or is that incorrect definition, may be I don't hate cyclist as I am one of them, but i also drive a car so know what a cyclist expects and what a car driver expects, and what a pedestrian expects, the new rules regarding pedestrians at crossing is nothing new for me, i always have given way to peds. BTW I am also Pedestrian, so know what to expect from motorist and cyclists, but its a joke Highway code is a big joke.
This is so funny. Love it. So many cyclists think road rules don't apply, running red lights, on pavements when it suits them. This serves him right. Nice irony, Bob Martin ...
Cyclists are a menace and will remain to be so until they are forced to obey the rules of the road like motorists. At the moment, they really do believe those rules don't apply to them.
A blue on blue and very satisfying! Seriously though, imagine how dangerous the welt would be in control of a motorised vehicle. Still, he could have done a pedestrian using that crossing a lot of damage as well.
Biggest problem with cyclists is that they don't all follow the rules of the road and they keep switching between acting as a vehicle and acting as a pedestrian... I've seen it one too many times...
+John Doe - See, this actually pisses me me off. I go out of my way to cycle safely, and you still hate us? Is it the 'good' cyclists responsiblity to educate the idiots - how will they ever learn? Genuinely interested in your answer...
Seb K I guess I was just hoping if you can begin to understand where other people are coming from, you might be in with a chance of discussing some 'solutions'...? Alas, he hasn't replied, so no dialogue yet :)
w3llhard Ooooh big mistake there . Never think you will get any logic from these troll pricks . Best just to let them moan and grown like little children .
Did you know, fixed-gear bicycles have no freewheel mechanism - when the back wheel turns, the pedals always turn. Having a single high gear means it's hard to start moving, so that's why some cyclists don't like stopping and 'roll on through' - also, some don't have brakes which makes slowing down and stopping difficult. I learnt something today :)
Why ur comment get one like in 5 years when others with just a laughing face gets hundreds I’m sure the likes system is suspect, it was a good comment and a like from a human not a like robot.
This is what happens when you're unable to read the road conditions because you had no training what so ever, if you can't look ahead & see a crossing with lots of pedestrians around give up cycling before you kill someone. Only the first bike stopped all the others wanted to cycle through the second bike only stopped because a pedestrian was in the way.
When I cycle I honestly feel like I'm the only one who stops for zebra crossings. Pedestrians look shocked when you slow down and stop for them on a bike. In my city 90% have no lights on at night either its a real shame, they make people who can actually use a bike on the road look bad.
I stopped at a zebra crossing early one morning last week because a pedestrian was waiting to cross. The vehicle behind clearly wasn't prepared for this because it skidded to a halt, very nearly running into me. I was on a bike. Glad to see the majority of cyclists on this video stopped for the zebra crossing
nr b. Are you suggesting it is alright for cyclists to ignore the law? The law that protects the most vulnerable road users , pedestrians? Are you really that sure you know better? You do know people have been killed by wanton or furious riding of a bike? If you don’t like a law, campaign to change it. Don’t arrogantly assume the right to ignore it. This clip is a clear example of arrogance in action !
Sick of seeing videos posted by cyclists moaning about drivers, but everyday I see them go through red lights, weave in and out of traffic and mount the pavement when it suits them.
The Forgotten Hero so you are saying if a cyclist is happening to do a decent speed it has not the potential to cause serious injury or death itself? By that line of thinking bicycles are exempt from the laws of physics. So shall I mail your gold star for your lack of understanding how physics works or you rather we do it in person at a function hall. If you choose the function hall the cost will impact the buget for party food and beverages.
@@barrierodliffe4155 ''killed every year by idiots on bikes'' Yeah right, lmao. And no, there are no speed limits for bicycles, educate yourself, dimwit lmao.
The Forgetful Moron People do get killed by idiots on bikes, try looking it up. The same rules apply to all road users, so if you are on a bike and can go fast enough to break the speed limit then you can be stopped and charged. Only morons like you who know nothing about riding bikes are stupid enough to believe the nonsense you claim. Real bike riders know the rules and how to ride.
If there wasn't a law against clothes lining cyclists that fail to stop for traffic lights, you'd see more cyclists actually obeying traffic lights. Just sayin'.
I'd like to understand your comment, truly I would. But some of the words seem to belong in a laundry and the others are just standing about looking embarrassed.
In keeping with how most of the cycling videos here are titled shouldn't this be "speeding road user almost kills innocent cyclist as he plows straight into him"
Had one the other day just went whizzing over the pelican crossing, through the red lights, whilst I was crossing on foot. One rule for all other road users, no rules at all for cyclists. A few months back there was an adult cyclist going down a very steep hill, with a level crossing right at the bottom, lights to control the vehicles, and multiple lanes of traffic going in each direction. Guess what? That's right, he had NO brakes on his bike. He stops himself by putting his feet down. Brake less bikes; a new trend in the UK.
If it had been me, I'd have been very tempted to push the moron off, and if he suffered a few painful friction burns, so much the better. It's the only way these (fortunately in a minority) dickheads will learn that they do not own the roads 😠😠.
i was riding moped the other day and african male stepped out from pavement right in front of me ....the front wheel was effed ....there was zebra crossing not 50 yards away ..what a moron ......they should learn the rules ....
Also he should have kept a safe distance. I've had this when I've stopped and someone has gone into the back of me at a crossing. They asked me why did I stop? Because it's a crossing and the lights are red I said. Yes accidents happen but as a cyclist myself I try to avoid them and follow the highway code the best I can. I've had a few accidents where it's been my fault and I've put my hands up to that. But Red lights and crossings I wouldn't risk it. If you hit someone one you could be charged under " wanton and driving furiously" That can carry a two year prison service. It's still there in the law.
Is this the same one whining about cars and buses who has the same attitude toward pedestrians. Got a quick flash of his double standards as his arse went over the handlebars
Cyclists should all have license plates, just like every other vehicle on the road. The shit they get away with is unbelievable. Why are they not held accountable for their actions.
I'm a cyclist my myself but I follow the road rules stopping traffic lights etc and only filtering if traffic is stopped. The thing that frustrates me is seeing cyclists cycling down a one way road like I saw today whilst riding my motorcycle.
The government need to think seriously about issuing licences to ride a bicycle and start getting the police to treat cyclist the same as other road users who have to drive with consideration for other road users.
This is why cyclist need to have license. That way they can be ticketed like a motorist would have been in this situation. Licenses can also be taken from them just like motorists for bad driving. Driving on public roads is a privilege and there are rules that need to be obeyed.
Could be that part of the problem is that a cyclist can be on the road with zero training, whereas a motorist has to be trained and pass a test. That and a large percentage of cyclists are quite young. Maybe they don't understand that they are OBLIGED to stop.
some strange comments on here. a) majority of cyclists were stopping. Yet we still get comments "all cyclists run crossings". You cannot take the actions of a minority to try to represent the majority. You lack truth. b) "It's like the third world". So what if it is, is everything in the third world assumed to be worse? If anyone thinks like that,, then they think in very simple terms. Times change, get with it, adapt; more people cycle now in London as the traffic is very bad, they reduce congestion, and pollution.
Cyclists all needed to be taxed & insured, pass a proper road test & be registered!!! Then & only then will they actually obey the rules of the road!!!🤔🤨🧐😉
Justice. Too many of these cyclists cherry pick the highway code to suit themselves. Face plant, lesson learned. Oh, and before the bike warriors reply, I too am a cyclist, but also a pedestrian and a motorist.
Cyclist don't stop for Zebra crossing, once I waited to cross a Zebra crossing and as a Cyclist approached I thought he was going to stop, So I started to cross, He just carried going and nearly hit me, As I shouted him, He just turned around and looked and shrugged his shoulders and carried on cycling like it didn't matter to him...
+AlixAkroyd I wouldn't do that if I were you. At least not in my country. Most of us carry tazers of telescopic batons as we get targeted by thieves looking to rob is of our valuables and bike. Basically... You will come up short.
+Bull “Bulln” Nkosi Here, in the civilised world, we don't carry weapons. Those that do are quickly rounded up and locked away from decent folk. If a cyclist were to to nearly hit me when I was crossing the road it would be knocked off in such a manner that it could not use any weapon it was carrying and would not be a menace on our roads for several months, if ever. I would like to know who decided cyclists have the same rights as human beings, and their owners should have to licensed to keep a cyclist as a pet. Cyclists are the scum of the earth.
stevieb19660 I don't know stevie, sounds like you have issues. In your so called "civilized" where cyclists run over pedestrians and pedestrians kick cyclists of their bikes, did you ever consider that both of you may possibly be equally wrong? That maybe pedestrians should be a bit more observant and cyclists should ride a bit more safely? All you people ever do is bitch and moan about what the other party is doing wrong and not what you can do to improve the situation. In my implied "uncivilized" world we don't have the same problem as you. because when we, as cyclists, do wrong we recognize that and apologize. Likewise, when a pedestrian is in the wrong they apologize. Not everyone fits the rule, but those people who don't such as yourself, who respond to wrong doing with more wrong doing are just cancerous and don't actually belong in any society, civilized or otherwise.
+Bull “Bulln” Nkosi I see your point. Everyone should follow the rules of the road. Cyclists should have training, registration and insurance. The only reason cyclists behave as they do and the reason the people they terrorise react violently is because they are not traceable and cannot be held responsible for their thoughtless, stupid, idiotic, brain dead actions. Reasonable force is acceptable to detain the perpetrator of a crime. If that force means ripping a cyclists legs off, so be it.
I was crossing at a zebra. Lights on red, everyone stops, I cross the road. Two thirds of the way across, a cyclist whizzes past the cars and across the zebra. I had to jump back to save myself. Finally get across, lights turn to green and traffic starts to flow, a police van in the line of traffic puts his lights on and chases after the cyclist. As I turned up my road, I see the Police had stopped the cyclist and were talking to him. I have no idea if he was charged? This is not the first time I have been nearly knocked over by cyclists who think the rules of the road dont apply to them!
Proof again...the psychology of a commuting cyclist in cities and towns...is to always be satisfied after each journey, that they feel they did it quicker than by any car or bus etc. This inherently leads to many of them peddling away as fast as possible with no clue as to those around them! As TVs "Top Gear" once declared...Red or Green - Learn the bloody difference! lol
Siegetower Congratulation, after 9 months we can now give away the gold medal for failing to spot the blatant sarcasm ! He DOES stop though, I never said he stopper in a controlled or deliberate manner !
+TABRAO This is what a beginner bicyclist does. They F up and hurt themselves and others. It has nothing to do with a drivers license. Bicycling is very different than driving a car. I don't like riding with beginners for this reason.
Why do cyclists think they don't have to stop, FOR ANYTHING?? Red lights and zebra crossings included. What sort of mentality is that? Gotta keep pedaling, gotta keep pedaling keep your head down, don't stop for anyone. Selfish.
Sightseeing around London years ago, cars, buses, taxis and trucks (lorries) traffic did not feel dangerous at all. Buffoons on bikes with the aggressive behaviour and total disregard for road rules and common courtesy were definitely intimidating! Must be mandatory for bike riders (in most places around the globe) to be proficient in offensive riding before hitting the pavement
When im driving i see cyclist going through red lights and zebra crossings all the time. Some of them pay attention to the people crossing over either. Drive any other vehicle and ypu stop. Jump on a pedal bike then the laws dont matter to you anymore. Go through a Red light in your car or lorry or bus or motorbike A nice big fine and points on ya licsence. Go through as a Cyclist nothing!
if you're right, it's a bit of a mystery why the cyclists ahead of this guy were stopping for the crossing, innit? If they all ignored the law, then this inattentive dumbass wouldn't have crashed into anyone's rear wheel would he?
I don’t wanna say that all cyclists are the same, but there’s nothing more dangerous for partially sighted people like myself than cyclists not following the rules of the road. I’ve been hit crossing at traffic lights, and also by a cyclist riding illegally on the pavement. Many (not all) cyclists expect people to jump out of their way, in reality it’s not always gonna happen. I feel for the innocent guy who stopped for the crossing
They always try to find a car driver to blame! Either that or it was the pedestrians fault for using the crossing correctly! I saw a clip on Car Crash Britain I think it was where this London cyclist shouted at pedestrians to 'look where they were going' and the cyclist shouted this whilst riding on the WRONG side of a traffic island!
I agree with you - they are a total nuisance. But I never will understand why so many people all want to live in one place to the extent that they physically cannot get around. There is no need for people to be physically all in one city now with the technology which exists - people need to spread out a bit. Then they won't have to go to work standing up on a train with their heads wedged in some ones sweaty arm pit or ride a shitty bicycle. I worked in London for years until I saw the light. Horrible place.
More people using their bikes instead of their cars means less pollution and traffic congestion in the big cities. In an city environment, using a bicycle is one of the fastest way in getting around in rush hour (generally much faster than a car) and when you take that into consideration and top it off with almost no cost in owning and using one plus you will get in great shape after awhile, I would say that there is no wonder why so many choose to cycle instead of sitting in endless queues looking at the back of yet another car.
There is no such thing as road tax, it was abolished in 1937, Now we have VED, that's Vehicle Excise Duty, and vehicles are taxed relative to their emissions, Cyclists don't have any emissions, that's why they don't pay VED. Suck that shit up.
Absolutely well-done to that pedestrian who confronted the cyclist. I cycle when I can, but if a day ever occurs when I behave like those cyclists (though that's unlikely), I hope that I would get confronted too.
I live on that road, there is a primary school on the left could u imagine if he hit a kid. Also a bike lane after that crossing probably wouldn't use it tho
Cyclists don't pay road tax, FACT. So they shouldn't use them, FACT. End of discussion, problem solved. NEXT TOPIC... p.s. don't forget to vote me at the next general election.
Road tax doesn't exist. It's car tax, a tax on cars and other vehicles, not a tax on roads or a fee to use them. The roads are funded by general and local taxes so therefore we all contribute regardless of whether we use them or not.
Lots of cyclist Believe it or not do follow the rules of the road, and lots of cyclist own cars as well and pay road tax Insurance etc. But road tax is paid for the wear and tear of road that's why heavy goods vehicle would pay far more Road tax then say a small motorbike, a Bicycle doesn't really cause any damage to the road. In the Netherlands in the 1970s the same arguments that were having today in London existed cycle deaths arguments with other road users And so on, if you take a trip to the Netherlands your see how they have solved this problem.
Just so you know there is no such thing as road tax, its a Vehicle Excise Duty and is based on the vehicle. So whist a cyclist doesn't pay they still have the right to use the roads. That said everyone using the roads needs to follow the highway code, including cyclists.
interesting one, Well public services like an ambulance is paid for through our own taxes like Council taxes, For any car driver in this country I feel for them they are too heavy taxed and car insurance is way overpriced now Electric cars don't even pay taxes via the petrol pump the electric car is still a very niche thing in the UK and their is no way they could sustain that if Electric car became a mainstream vehicle , you could tax the Bicycle if you put the numberplate on every single bicycle, if that happened then maybe we might tax people one rollerskates going to work as well we could even tax those walking on The pavement but we all pay taxes one way or another unless your the super rich or sitting at home feeding off the benefits but for the rest of us we are all paying high taxes, take Council tax for example that a tax you pay out of your net pay which is supposed to pay for infrastructure but if pays for the Work shy hosing benefits ..you know as well as I do that would be impractical to tax a cyclist and as a car driver as well as and a cyclist I do see your point as well but as a cyclist I know it's not going to happen, it would be counter-productive if anything to tax the cyclist, the cyclist as helped the economics in Scandinavian countries and if done right could help the UK , I like to see bigger fines for cyclists acting like the rules don't apply to them however cycling is here to stay and growing year on year.. its all economics
I drive round London everyday,95% of the time people crossing red lights, not giving way and not stopping at zebra crossings ,also going through the zebra crossings while people are crossing is cyclist's!!! BUT WHEN A CAR LORRY,BIKE BUS OR HORSE DOES IT THE CYCLISTS MOAN LIKE HELL..
I’ve seen plenty of cyclists deliberately ride into pedestrians also situations of peril, deliberately taking up whole lane space, then cutting up buses on both sides, they’re inadequate twats trying to make some deluded statement
Pay closer attention to the video. He is riding in a pace line. It is generally the cyclist in the leads responsibility to indicate hazards, changes in direction or speed as the cyclists behind cannot see what is going on in front of the leader. The leader failed to indicate his intention to stop. It is easy to judge when you aren't in his position. Put yourself in his shoes for a minute and watch the video again
+Bull “Bulln” Nkosi maybe he's drafting (or trying to, rather), but there's nothing to indicate that the guy in front is aware of him at all until he crashes into him. They're on a city street, not in a peloton on a country road. Regardless of whether you're on a bike, or in a car or truck, you can't just narrow your focus to the vehicle directly in front - there are other hazards and signs, and if he saw the crossing, he should have anticipated the likelihood of stopping. Anything less than that is irresponsible use of the road.
