WLED is fantastic, and Aircookie is the man! He actually reached out to us when we first started this project to offer his help. We've worked with him over the last few years to develop our app. The WiFi connectivity, syncing, and color/parameter control is all done through the WLED framework. The patterns and other features, like sound reactivity, are entirely custom written by us (apart from 2 or 3 WLED patterns we used with permission). A lot of work went into making the light patterns special, which is the real art of these cubes, in our opinion! We're hugely grateful for Aircookie and his contributions, and for Paul's excellent review video!

Since its running WLED, You can connect it to Alexa or Home Assistant, But you might have to refresh it with Vanilla WLED

Nice video! Just to hush some of the comments going off on this being WLED based, yes it is! There is also some other DNA in the controller to make sure it's decently built solution. ;) So for everyone concerned, all hardware and software used is known by their creators and (at least in this case) they either helped in it's creation or were compensated decently for their use. :) And like Paul already mentions himself, if you have the skills to build on yourself for say 1/3rd the price, you are certainly free to do so! But if you don't have the time but do have the money, they are beautiful pieces of art! :)

Much appreciated! Indeed, we worked directly with Aircookie, the creator of WLED, to develop our app. It's fantastic software for DIY lighting, and really helped take our work to the next level. OH I LOVE THESE!! I'm going to share this video with my ex, who in 80's made up an awesome infinity box with mirrors and Christmas (Fairy) lights. He'll love it too. Then I'm sharing it with my kids who have light strings everywhere in their homes. Well maybe not everywhere. LOL. So glad you're making videos and I'll bet this was the one you working on when that "damned awful thing" happened. I'm so sorry that happened. But I can tell you one thing... I'm so damn happy to see your face up in the top left corner of my feed this Saturday night. It just made my night. I do enjoy your company with my dinner Saturday nights. And I truly missed you when you weren't here. ((Big Hugs from Australia)). And if they're still around, there's a place in Queensland called Infinity where you walk through ROOMS like these boxes. My husband and I went through (they make you wear white gloves and white shoe covers) and there were several rooms, all very different and amazing. We sat against a wall in one room playing Pink Floyd for about half an hour, just being ... like that guy in the advert! 🤣 And after we left the place we sat on a park bench for awhile just feeling like we'd had the most amazing trip ever.

NICE. Ive seen these on the Fbook and wasn't impressed with their ads. I like that they sell their mirrors individually. Would be easy to craft a "shadowbox" for the 15inch mirrors for wall art. Would love to see a follow up with how you melded it with home assistant.

They use to call them infinitity lights back in the day when they were used in pinball and similar entertainment machines. They are really amazing. It's very clever effect with mirrors. I agree these are amazingly well built and the mirrored perspex is quit genius. I have to admit, there "app" looks a lot like a slimmed down version of WLED. Not a complaint, it really does ""just work" These things are expensive though. I checked on there Indiegogo kick starter before it went into production and even the early bird pricing was a high price for an artistic lamp.

Looks like the app is WLED, have you checked to see if there is a web interface? If it is actually using WLED there should be Alexa integration natively.

Like you I get 'peeved' when companies from abroad sell their electronic equipment without the option of providing a plug for your own country. In fact, as trivial as it might sound, I decided not to order their larger cube for this reason. When they released their nano cube - again WITHOUT the plug option I emailed them and asked why. They chose not to even bother to reply to me! Btw additional to the prices you mentioned isn't there also a VAT charge of 20% (even on shipping costs) for purchases from USA to UK?

Received my nanocube, and whilst it is as awesome as expected, and picked up by HOOOOOOOME assistant automatically, it came with a US adaptor rather than an AU adaptor

it's just a WLED copy piece of firmware. i would disconnect the "controllerbox"and 3d print one with a esp32 in it and use the orriginal WLED firmware for more controll and connection to homeassistnat

Just as a counterpoint to the expense, if you were going to make your own, just to purchase 6 x 300mm square perspex sheets is £107 from Amazon. A light set even more, a sturdy frame more again, glue, a power supply, these aren't actually that expensive for what they are, they just happen to be an expensive thing to build full stop.

Very purdy piece of kit, it puts the infinity mirror I made for my daughter to shame. The one I made was just the usual, almost 2D picture frame type box about 60mm deep, not a full on 3D cube like these. Intrigued by how sturdy these are I decided to try the 'stand on it' test on mine. Unfortunately it is now actual 2D rather than almost 2D. It's quite late here, and my daughter was fast asleep. The loud crack as the thing collapsed under my weight woke her up and I'm now trying to console her as she doesn't understand why I would do such a thing to her special mirror, in the middle of the night. Mrs W is even less impressed.

i just got a nano. after 3 days sometimes it does not switch off or does not switch on......sometimes when powering off the pattern freezes or when powering on the pattern starts blinking.......anyone else with that experience? also it appears as offline despite being switched on sometimes....

While I’m a qualified electronics engineer and understand one way mirror film, I wouldn’t bother making one to that quality level, let’s not forget they also include apps which the average DIY person can’t create. The price is reasonable based on what your getting and worthy of placing in your lounge room. Thumbs up on this one, very cool.

Paul to put these into perspective.Anthony James had the first type of these in a Bond street gallery. I think the largest you have in his equivalent. (It did have a more style ) when i viewed them Was £55000.Yes you read right. He also does much larger ones as well. So even with limitations these are cheap 😂 His exhibitions are to say the least wow with these. Check his web site to see the sizes and styles. As ever Paul great work.

Ahem... Accessing "Home Assistant Nerd" mode... Yes, you CAN make that work with Alexa using Home Assistant and it's perfectly simple! What you do is simply write an integration to make these visible in Home Assistant, then you install the Haaska skill using an instance in AWS, then you connect that skill to Home Assistant, then connect it to Alexa, and then you tell Alexa to search for new devices, then you can tell Alexa to turn on the lights without needing a ridiculous power switch! It's very simple, just ask my wife! Sorry, I just had to do that. I'm not that guy, as it happens. I was with it all the way up to "simply". Writing integrations looks difficult.
