In 1998 my friend and I were backpacking in Australia. We did some farm work at a lime orchard picking fruit for about a week. On one of our last days this bird walked up in between the row of trees and silently passed between us only feet apart. We stood stupidly still and watched as it watched us with its eyes. We saw the massive amount of tiny flies swarming its back hind feathers (normal for wildlife) but that’s how close we were. Later after we went back to drop off our lime bags and told the farmers of our close encounter did they inform us of how vicious they can be. It was a once in a lifetime experience. Like have a bear pass you at close range. It was beautiful

But who said this is the tallest they get? They can state that, but not have a bird of that stature in the video. They did say the bird is basically very elusive and rare. Research says they can grow as tall as 5.5 feet tall, that's taller than my grandma, and she's not a midget, and that's about as tall as my cousin. That's also about as tall as what's considered tall for women (5'7"), who are also the start of considered modelesque.

@@crystalincyberspace I would not underestimate peacocks either. They (especially the grown up males)are aggressive (going after humans that just pass by), in the wild they pick fights with cobras. One reason why they are kept in India. Now the cassuaries certainly have more potential to be dangerous. They can be territorial sometimes, but normally they will not bother a human (I would not bet on that with a peacock). I remember a story where a male peacock escaped from a zoo. And two policemen tried to catch it so it would not disrupt traffic ;)No human nor bird sustained severe injuries in the foolish attempt, police gave up before that. Then staff from the zoo arrived. They had a peacock lady with them (maybe in a cage, or on a leash).... Anyway that did the charm, male escaped peacock returned peacefully.

I hope this beautiful dinosaur hasn't met a toothy saltwater relative.

Cassowaries are known to be the most dangerous and the heaviest bird in Australia. Perhaps it isn't the heaviest in the world, the heaviest bird in the world would be the common ostrich

I feel like its mate was swept out to sea or maybe eaten by a shark. It doesnt seem to be hunting or even juts enjoying a swim. Its like its looking or waiting for something 😢

Although said to be a 'strong swimmer' and being that far out, I would have thought it would have been swept by the under current and drowned du to that and tiredness. Hopefully this was filmed by a long lens or the cameraman was hidden...seeing that this can run at speeds of 60mph!.
