Goose has confirmed 3 things about this show: - The humans are indeed humans, there shouldn't be a twist where they're also AI or AI copies of human consciousness - No romances, so all shipping wars are fighting solely for fan-canon - Caine is confirmed to be an advanced AI that has almost full control over the digital world, and is simply trying his best to accommodate for the trapped humans, but struggles since he has barely any understanding of higher-conscious emotions
The Utah Teapot was modeled using graph paper and Bezier curves, and it's based on an actual teapot made by German company Melitta, which belonged to the creator's wife.
Someone also did say it could also be the Russell Teapot as well involving the burden of knowing something that no one else will ever see nor believe you. In this case Gummigoo knowing the truth about his existence and Pomni trying to explain it to him. That's a dumbed down version of it anyways.
@@mistermann4163 Russel's teapot seems to be more about "This thing might or might not be true, but there is no way to prove it either way". But since that is functionally almost the same as the "We can't prove we aren't all brains in a vat plugged into a simulation" it fits with the existential dread moment. It made me wonder if any of the cast are AI without realising it, especially since they lose part of their memories.
That's so cool! Thanks for sharing that! I thought it was an Alice in Wonderland reference, tbh, but the teapots being a 3D meme makes a lot more sense.
I believe it's also used to test the lighting. Since it's a relatively simple 3D model with distinct and diverse shapes, you can put it in to test how it reacts to your lightsources in-game. See if you programmed it well.
I feel so bad for Zooble just seeing them struggle to walk. That body has to be a miserable thing to be stuck in. Especially since their gimmick tends to be falling apart for a joke.
They fit the personality and some other stuff including being disabled as a certain person in the Bible. Just as other characters fit rather perfectly. Pomni obviously "Christ" one point I don't see people point out is how when Jax threw her, she had both her hands stuck on the trucks, one of which had spikes later on. Her hung up in a "cross" pose in horrible pain. But imo imo Jax is "Peter" and Gangle is "Judas"
@@McBehrer can you explain your PoV on how it doesnt. It's good to learn to understand others on things that may not make sense to one, but does to another so they can see that PoV too. But what about what I say doesn't make sense with things in specifics and I can explain each one. Just being broad doesn't help know what to focus on
Apparently Goose said the next episode will be a Zooble episode so I can't wait to see more of what she's all about (Gangle too). From what little we've seen so far she's pretty lethargic and reclusive, barely participating in any of Caine's games, so I hope we get even a smidge of insight on that and generally just spend more time with her. Please Goose, I really want to have a reason to care about Zooble (Gangle too).
@@myphicaldinosaurcreator1867 Can confirm. My comment was meant to make fun of the bots that spam the stupid “My content is better than [insert famous RU-vidr here]” sentences.
Honestly, I'm very intrigued with Zoobl. We've barely seen her at all in these past two episodes, so there's probably some things that's being hidden for a later reveal.
Why teapots? They are Utah Teapots, used for decades as model placeholders or test objects for new rendering engines. For early renders, it contained lots of tris, complex overlapping surfaces, the opportunity for shadows, reflections and even curved surfaces. Its a really famous teapot.
Kaufmo shouldn't be older than Kinger, since when Jax mentioned "Kinger's *supposedly* been around the longest", he didn't yet know Kaufmo had abstracted.
One idea I like that in Matpat’s video someone pointed out that since bubble might be an NPC since they had no Caine filter, that the cencered part was actually a spoiler for past or future events. “Sound’s sticky” 🤔
The expression work in this episode stands out so much- literally everything in this improves upon the qualities of the pilot and I LOVE IT. The direction this series is going in has me beyond excited for what's to come!
Its really neat how expressive some characters are when they're lacking stuff like mouths. Or Jax keeping his mouth mostly the same except in instances like when he's being strangled in the pilot.
@@rosenrot234 I've heard from somewhere that Michael Kovach actually grins and never opens his mouth when voicing Jax! Talk about staying in-character!! Of course, that's just what I've heard. I don't go on Twitter or anything so I wouldn't know 😅
@@de_functI don’t think that’s true. He def does sound like he’s not opening/closing his mouth all the way, but unless he’s a ventriloquist he would still have to move his mouth around at least somewhat to talk the way he does
Gooseworx confirmed she's a very big fan of the Raggedy Anne and Andy movie and that she takes heavy inspiration from it for this show. There will be future characters that are also inspired by the movie.
29:40 the Teapot is a common default model on 3d modeling software since it's geometry has pretty much all of the possible angles logic for the rendering engines
The Utah Teapot is based on an actual teapot made by Melitta, which the creator's wife had. He drew the teapot on graph paper, and then modeled it using Bezier curves.
That’s a specific famous model for testing lighting on different surfaces. It’s not common or typical, it’s very specific. It would be like calling Blender’s Suzanne “a common monkey head”.
Gummigoo: You're the expert. Pomni: I'm really not. Further cements the theory that she was in QA or something similar, and not exactly that familiar with programming.
Dude, I'm a guy in my bedroom and even I know the basic gaming terms she used. If you played any Bethesda game or tried Gmod even once, you'll understand those things pretty easily.
I have a theory that zooble (besides not liking the adventures) didn’t want to go because she was setting up couphmo’s funeral and jacks acting all tough wanted her to come along as not just another person to mess with but also so she couldn’t set everything up because they definitely had it planned since all zooble had to say was that “she has everything set up” and ragatha knew exactly what she meant. Also kinger is the one who has been there the longest
Now, was he trying to delay the funeral because he is in denial over Kaufmo's abstraction, or because he's a dick who truly doesn't care about these people.
I mean we saw that he had some sympathy so I’m assuming he was just trying to delay is to keep himself from thinking to much about it also probably the reason he didn’t show up at the end. He didn’t want to show the real him so he was a no show knowing he’d break and they’d see his vulnerability
watching Glitch grow from making SMG4 9 - 10 years ago to doing high quality productions like this has really been amazing. As a Glitch OG i gotta say it makes me happy.
There's only so much one can do even against a second of eternity. All things lead to entropy, only difference is how long till that point comes. The true tragedy is that no matter what you do, you'll abstract eventually
Mad Max playes out in Australia. Mad Max Fury Road had to be filmed in Africa, because recent rain falls turned the old filming location into a flower wonderland. There's a picture somewhere on the internet of the war rig standing in the middle of an ocean of blossoms. Would've been an interesting movie
42:45 I mean, Pomni does state in the pilot that the last thing she remembered was putting on a headset. One could assume it was a type of VR headset, and everyone here was basically .hack'd. My question now is what is happening to their real bodies in the physical world.
I think their bodies disappeared. Mostly because we see the computer Digital Circus is running on attached to a headset at the end of the pilot, and there's no body attached. Then again, Gooseworx once said (possibly jokingly) that there's a decaying corpse at one point, but that could also just be a zombie/mummy character.
@@avereth That'd explain why the headset is placed on the table. Some girl put the headset on, it didn't seem to do anything, so she took it off, not knowing she got copy/pasted. The main issue I have with that theory is that I kinda think the circus was supposed to be a hyper-immersive VR game, and what good is a headset that displays nothing and just makes a scan for a simulation? Why make a game that can't be played?
@@puggyboy694 I dunno, it seems less plausible that they're just trapped in a headset without anyone intervening unless there's some crazy time dilation going on. I feel like people abstracting could be related to them becoming so unstable they experience a code failure.
One small animation error at 10:58 , you can see the spikes despite them not being deployed yet. Doesnt take away from anything, just something i noticed. P.s. if you pay attention, Jax's face turns sad for a split second when the funeral is mentioned. Its subtle and quick, but it shows he does somewhat care.
100% believe Jax revealed he has his memory from the real world when he mentioned "Augustus Gloop"! Totally a clue that he is working for the powers behind the circus. I also think the scene where the trucks were going over the rough terrain gave us another hint. Everyone bounced around in the truck but the camera was locked on Jax's face so it appeared that his head wasnt moving. When you add that to his talking to the camera in the 1st ep but they tried to hide that fact by having Ragatha think he was looking at her in a "weird" way. His reward/payment is a free hand to entertain himself and perks like having "keys to everywhere" in the circus.
I think one of the key scenes that I have seen a lot of discussion about is what Caine says to Pomni after deleting Gumigoo. Specifically when he says "If I lose track of who's a human and who's an NPC, who knows-! what...could happen...." with a focus on his blank stare. Thing is many people took this as heavy implication that not all of the current cast are human, that some are NPCs mistook for the original human players. I don't think that's what was meant by this scene. I believe this line of Caine's implies that he has accidentally *deleted a human* before and very clearly was traumatized by it. Perhaps, in the past when the group of humans was much larger (remember all the crossed out doors we see in the hallway in the pilot?), he allowed them to take NPCs back to the circus but somehow, some time later Caine got their identities mixed up and mistook one of the previous humans for an NPC, perhaps after an adventure that made them blend in with the environment, and deleted them. Only realizing too little late that they were a human. Which is why he does not allow NPCs to remain in the circus anymore after an adventure has concluded. He's not being malicious, he's being cautious. The problem is he doesn't understand that the humans could grow attached to the NPCs. Gooseworx said herself that Caine isn't meant to be a villain AI, he just doesn't understand human emotions.
R.I.A. Kaufmo & Maybe See You in A While Crocodile - What a Bittersweet ending to the leader of (what I will call them) the Gummy Gator Gang that being Gumigoo who is voiced by Jack Hawkins who also voiced another gummy gator that being Chad, & he also voices some Elf combat vocals & Shadow (Baldur’s Gate 3), & a few more while the remaining gator is Max voiced by Hamish Plaggmars who also voices Jones’s, Will, Cole, & Caleb (Broken Roads) then a few more. As for the named Candy Citizens there is Princess Loolilalu voiced by Vera Tan who also voices Gwyneth (AFK Arena) & a few more while as for the Fudge Monster he is voiced by Lyle Rath who also voices CEO, Angry Dent-Headed person, & Warren Buffett (Smiling Friends), Lifeguard & others (Helluva Boss), Tim Allen (Cyanide & Happiness), Golbat, Haunter, & Gastly (Starter Squad), Jaffe (Hellsing Ultimate Abridge), & a few more - This episode was like Mad Max meets Westworld meets Candyland which speaking of the Fudge Monster maybe based on Gloppy while Princess Loolilalu maybe based on Princess Lolly - When Pomni mentions she isn’t a kid this reminds me that Gooseworx said what are each of the ages of the Humans stuck in this digital circus with Pomni = 25, Ragatha = 30, Zooble & Jax = 22, Gangle = 26, & Kinger = 48 - The tea pots that you see under the map maybe a reference to the Utah Teapot - Noticed that Jax uses a Boot-zooka & he mentions Augustus from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”
The teapot is a 3D animation in-joke, as it was one of the first 3D models used to test 3D rendering. It's smooth and relatively simple to create, but has visual complexity because of its shape, what with the handle, lid, spout, and general curvy shape, so it helps 3D animators test lighting and materials. If the name for that _is_ the Utah Teapot, then I guess I'm just explaining why it's in the show.
Literally everything about the quality in this episode is a huge improvement through everything from the first pilot and I’m loving it! Definitely beating out Disney. Rest in Peace Gummigoo…Hope we see him again.. if Gummigoo was still around man he’d knock some sense into Jax, just bc he bullies everyone last straw would be if he bullies Pomni.
He did bro he chucked her out a truck and then tried to use her as a bridge, and that's not even talking about that evil ass neck choke he did before he threw her out, that rabbit evil af
At around 36:12 you can see Jax go from being grumpy from no *vyolense,* then he blinks and actually looks legitimately and sincerely sad about something, then quickly blinks and looks away almost shamefully, and finally looks down in an even angrier look. In the end, it looks more like he's angry at himself, maybe angry that he felt empathy for Pomni. I personally think he really doesn't care-like actually does not give two flying fucks about them. But in that moment he felt for what Pomni is going through, and got angry at himself for it.
Pomni being stretched thin i think was done by Kevin Temmer who if you didnt know was a bluesky animator and i think also animated the same gag with scrat in Ice Age.
Hey Rishi. Just letting you know that hearing your voice and your laugh lifts me up when I'm down. You're also an amazing digital artist Thank you for being you ❤ All the best love X
Saber is right about the tone and setting of the show making it easy to ignore things that would otherwise be animation errors or corner cutting. While Gangle is driving the war rig for example you can see their hand clipping through the steering wheel. Is this a mistake? Is it a deliberate consideration of the world building? Probably the former but you're probably not gonna nit pick it cause it does sort of just make sense.
I'm strongly thinking Cane is one of two in-game AI who are meant to create games or entertainment for players (Or patients). Perhaps these 'adventures' are meant to or were originally meant to take care of their mental well being. I suspect Able (There are signs with C&A in the pilot) was an AI that was probably meant to focus more on the mental health of the players / patients, while Cane makes the adventures. Whether the actual, original intention of the space they're stuck in was a game or therapy, some major parts of it are certainly malfunctioning. I wonder if someone in the main cast is also an AI and Cane forgot who it was?
My baby sister passed away last year about this time. Life is meaningless. Even though it is I'm compelled to do what I can to show her if she's somewhere else now or not that I'll take care of our family and I'll make the best of the time I got
12:13 Just for reference, Jax was blackmailing Gangle to ram the truck, the reason was because of some figurines that Gangle doesn’t want Ragatha to know about.
Pilot episodes have to wedge a lot into them as being a 'slice' of what the show will be like overall as a concept so they will almost always seem frantic. Now that it's able to move forward, the episodes can take their time and develop.
Something I noticed on the second watch- Zooble states near the end that they thought Caine would never leave. In the beginning, they're holding something up against themself, and immediately turns and leaves after told about the adventure. They was holding the picture frame. They were about to set for the funeral, but didn’t want Caine to see it or know about it (not sure why) and so went to wait until he was gone
I think in the scene where all the hands reach for her, it's only the ones that attended the funeral, and Pomni only sees those because now sees that they do care for who abstract, that's why Jax and specially Cain don't show. But that's just my theory, and almost baseless theory, thanks for reading
I see Ragatha as a big caring sister. Not what the fans “think” they see her and Pomni as. I am glad Gooseworks says no romance and I hope that’s for real, because I really think the show is fine without romance. For real. And I don’t see Pomni and Gummygoo like that either, just friends. She is just freaking ur because she thought she let a friend that went through the same thing she went through but it shows later the others are going through the same that she is.
I think she maintains her sanity by having humanity or empathy towards others. That’s why she doesn’t mind going on adventures as a distraction and lift the group’s spirits. That’s why she kind of treats pomni as a child. “I’m not a child you don’t have to hype me up.” Jax is destructive and sociopathic, releasing those emotions and energy through chaos. Kinger is older and bit wiser, but it seems like he lost some sanity with a few raw human moments. The others don’t have a lot of information to define their characteristics
I don’t ship Pomni with Ragatha at all. I only see them as best friends. Same goes for Gummigo and Pomni. I do think it would be better for this show to not have any romances. So yeah, I totally agree.
"why teapots?" that's the utah teapot, famous prop used for early 3d test renders, "complex" in shape but easy to define mathematically with equations. an in-joke today with 3d design.
Honestly Pomni reminds of how I was during the pandemic. Scared, confused, overwhelmed, going a little crazy, sad, meh, and then back to ignoring the situation with mindless tasks.
I have a theory that the main cast are all AI themselves but their personalities are copies of the people who wore the headset. It would explain why they don't remember their names, since they would only be facsimiles of a persons mannerisms, habits, opinions, and idiosyncrasies but no real recollection of their actual lives. Though I would need to see more of the show for the theory to be more convincing. Like if the characters couldn't remember their lives pre-digital world, that would make the theory more plausible. But hey, we'll see.
Also Caine not being able to differentiate between NPC's and Humans makes me think the programmers/developers of dc didn't care to have that distinction. Maybe they had the idea of putting human personalities onto NPC's to create a more lifelike or believeable character. I also think people abstract when they come to the realization that they're just NPC's and weren't actually transported into the world, but obviously it's just my theory.
31:29 spoilers warning for this episode I just realized how pointless these adventures are, if the NPC just reset or something. There is absolutely no point in making friends or being friendly with them. Sure at the moment it could be fun to meet new people but in the end, they might as well be d*ad after you leave. Although you know what else is also fun? Torture, violence, chaos. Jax is min-maxing of his dopamine from these adventures. Why be sad about losing a friend when you can torture the enemy?
Maybe I'm a little bit cruel, but it was obvious to me that Gummy Goo is going to offed somehow, so when it's actually happened I just blasted with laughter of how it was naive to believe that he will stay at circus. What a great episode
Outside her name, I'd say Ragatha is more based on Molly from the 90's stop motion Bump in the Night show then she is on Raggity Ann, especially personality wise
@@CeHee123 regardless of them stating an obsession with Raggedy Ann and Andy, it's impossible to not see the visual and personality inspiration from Bump in The Night's Molly the doll
I believe the significance of the teapots was that they were the first model to be created in a 3D program. So, a ton of 3D programs always have them available as a sample when creating a 3D model.
Apparently we have confirmation that these are humans rather than AI copies, but I'm a bit puzzled about the abstraction thing then: I can see the experience leading to a total breakdown, but "mindless, non-verbal violence" doesn't really normally map to human psychological collapse, stereotypes of insanity nowithstanding. Of course, we only have a sample of one when it comes to the abstracted.
So personally theory is that all the characters are people who worked on Digital Circus: Jax: The guy who has access to everything behind the scenes of the game, like a data miner or play tester. Ragatha: Team leader or something like that Pomni: Level design Gangle: Writer Zooble: Art design Kinger: Dev who fixes bugs Cofmo: Thus one is harder but I think he's involved with writing or with character design. Could be that all the other characters we see with their images on doors with a giant X over it were previous workers. P.S. Idk why but I got a lot of Candyland vibes for the fudge guy, the queen and overall colorscheme.
A little theory of mine. I think in a future episode they might go back to the candy kingdom because from what i've seen, the first teaser trailer for the upcoming episodes where they show the new characters in a rapid 1 second clip with the final clip of the blue mannequin freaking out. Well.. I don't think that clip was ever shown in this episode so maybe in some time they will be back and protect the kingdom from the fudge. Or maybe i'm wrong about that.. What do y'all think?🤔
as far as i know, glitch makes fake frames for those things. probably so as to not give too much away (and it also contributes to the mysterious-weird vibes the show has i feel)
someone sayd that teapods where in that development space because teapots were the first 3d model and thats why thet are used in 3d programs as reference
one my favorite theories that I've seen so far about why the characters are still trapped in the game is by cartoon roundtable and basically he thinks it's because they aren't playing the game correctly and advancing the games plot, and that the circus has a deeper purpose and lesson for the characters to achieve, but by just doing caine's side quests in a effort to just maintain their sanity they aren't progressing a leveling up so they can't move forward and "finish" the game. Kinda how the only way to escape jumanji was to beat the game, maybe the only way to escape the circus is to win.
I personally view all the main characters as being different ways one might cope with the existential dread and being trapped in a digital world 1. Pomni is the beginning phase of this development and is growing to value the others as people she can depend on when the going gets tough 2. Ragatha is kind and empathetic and is just trying to make life easier for everyone else in spite of her own worries regarding abstraction 3. Zooble is basically puts on an I don’t care attitude 4. Kinger has almost completely disassociated from the reality of the situation due to being there the longest 5. Gangle puts on a fragile mask of positivitity and agreeableness which can easily be shattered and is anxious and submissive most of the time 6. Jax is an asshole who wants to have fun at the expense of others
The teapot model is a primitive shape in Autodesk Maya and one of the very first things ever to be turned into a 3D model. It was popular for testing out environmental lighting, materials, and reflections. The area under the map seems to represent the object cache for the game, where assets are preloaded before copies are placed and animated as needed. It wasn't uncommon back in the day for game objects to be loaded outside of the visible map then moved into the scene when called for.
29:41 That's the Utah Teapot, a classic 3d model dating back to the 70s, has been commonly used for test renders and stuff for ages; was one of the "primitives" on 3d Studio Max early on (been way too long since last used that app, dunno if they still have it or even if the app itself is still around; I'm a Blenderhead all the way nowadays).
When there's the empty space with all the teapots under the map, those are the "mascotte" 3D models from a 3D software, "3ds max" from Autodesk. I checked it and it's the same model (or at least, those models are identical).
FUN FACT: at the end we see pomnis hand getting grabbed up by ragatha zooble and kinger, whilst in the abstraction pit. thats because pomnis nightmare almost became real. and ragatha kinger and zooble all grabbed her before it was over for pomni
Deeplore theory: All NPCs are subroutines of Caine's AI, and pomni might be able to reach Caine's candid side by messing with his alternate personalities.
What I've noticed about ragatha is that she is a character of sympathy with no empathy. She tries to cheer Pomni up but it never works, because she never steps down to Pomin's level like Ponmi did for Gummygoo
@@slipperyquark3885she’s empathetic but sort bad at showing the proper care, or at least the right one for Pomni. Maybe there’s no clear way to truly help someone going through this existential trauma but Ragatha’s cheery approach is absolutely not it.
