So appreciate you Toni - in these times when one shiny object after another is put in our faces to hide evil deeds in the background. I’ve decided all I can do is be wise, sit back and prepare . Our children won’t because they are busy with their lives…so it’s up to the Lord (always) and wise elders 😌

Crazy in the UK too. I can't see interest rates or inflation coming down here, in fact I see things getting worse. The weather has been awful for farmers, it's been cold and mostly wet, not good for crops. The General Election lie fest is beyond annoying so time in the garden when it's not pouring down is joy.

Food prices keep going up..went to my cheaper grocery store today, and the prices were up.. and hardly any specials...the no name tuna was $ 1.29 a can before..now more than a dollar more.....happy about my garden..beans coming up, all kinds of herbs, strawberry plants great, raspberries, lettuce...Will focus on beans and more beans and lettuce...and freeze some beans...still got to get cukes in...I eat a lot of those..thank you for your encouraging words..means a lot...

@@HerHomesteadSkills justice is supposed to also be equal under the law and it isn’t in the US. We have two systems, one for the wealthy and one for the rest of us. But it goes even deeper than that, one for Trump and one for Biden’s son. If Hunter Biden goes to jail and Trump doesn’t it will be one more demonstration of how unfair our legal system is. The same argument was stated by the prosecutor re Biden, “No one is above the law”. But as it seems Trump may well be especially whe Tump is released on his own personal recognizance and if Biden is not.

Nope...They won't even get equal treatment in the courtroom...so no, I totally disagree with your conclusions. Justice is supposed to be blind but, I'm not, I see exactly what they are doing, and I judge people by their actions...not their affiliations.

My cherry tomatoes are growing fast and I also planted sweet red bell peppers in a 5 gallon bucket . It's been quite warm this week and poor teddy doesn't like the heat

Hi Toni - it’s good to hear your garden is doing well. We had a bit of a set back yesterday with our garden plans - the rain we had the day before was so much that my husband couldn’t get it all tilled - about 1/3 is so soggy it cannot be planted in. He also had challenges with both of our tillers - one wouldn’t start and the other had a shear pin break so he had to run to town to get more pins, 😂😅 luckily he was able to get some. Today we are having a heavy rain - so I have to wait and see how it affects the outside gardens - before I can plant any thing UGH! Aw well - just have to keep on plugging away a bit at a time - never give up!

so much rain this year, it's incredible...and a month late, perhaps that is making up for so little snow this last winter...hope it dries up for you soon!

I'm not watching trials, it is a distraction and keeping me from doing what I need to do, minding my garden and household. I'm watching prices rise. My property tax went up by $400, so now it takes close to both our pensions for one month to pay it. $2.33/lb for onions, 2 lbs carrots, $3.49 and nine chicken thighs were $17.61! So grateful that we having some savings to cushion these blows. A major fruit producing area of BC has lost all this year's expected production of stone fruit...cherries, peaches, apricots, nectarines. Thankfully, the trees are ok, but the blossoms were killed. I cannot begin to imagine the devastation that those farmers with their expensive acreages, are feeling at the prospect of no income from them. Sure, we will get cherries from other countries, and maybe even from Ontario? ha ha. But they will cost a lot more.

I don't know how far away you live from Ashcroft? You ever heard from Desert Hills Ranch? They get fruits from the USA for a very good price. Not a single food store can compete with their prices. It worth the trip. We drive 2 1/2 hours to get there.

The Vernon area where I live, will not have any peaches either, and a possible smattering of cherries. I usually go and pick cherries and dehydrate them and freeze them and make juice. So maybe a trip to Ashcroft is going to be in order. Not sure if the southern part of BC was hit with the same freeze as our area. Fruit will be more expensive this year, I guess. I have a big enough garden but it has been struggling to grow due to the cool spring weather we have been having. The nights have still been under 10 degrees. But we at heading into some very warm weather in the next few days, so hopefully everything with start to take off.

@@Samara2405 We are 12 hours north of Ashcroft, and the lack of fruit isn't a problem for me, as we have pears, apples, plums and grapes, and a small peach tree (in the greenhouse.) We'd have cherries if the birds would leave our two big trees alone. But I sure miss the Okanagan apricots.

I thought of a question I want to ask about freeze drying, if you did chicken or beef bones would they easily be turned into powder? to have dried bullion that way?

Does Lavender over winter and come back or do you have to bring it in? I tried it once, but it didn’t seem to like my soil or location and died. I would like to try it again.

Depends on the variety of lavender. Some are only annual lavenders keep trying. I finally found a spot that it absolutely loves and it's been coming back every year since

Both Hidcote and Munstead are cold hardy, I'm in zone 5 and my lavender does overwinter very well...I cut it back hard in the spring and it just gets more beautiful and lush!

I don';t want a interest rate cut, it will just increase inflation of everything more - especially housing! Low rates helped cause the housing crisis to begin with, today's rates are just closer to normal, not too high.

@@HerHomesteadSkills housing needs to crash to get out the rot and bad debt and make affordable again. reset to reasonable prices, 60 to 70% value decline is in order. people have themselves to thank thinking interest rates will always stay low and buying $1+ million houses that are worth no more than 300 to 400k. worse, for counting on a house they bought being a financial vehicle to sell for a massive gain - a retirement plan instead of a nice place to live. central banking, having a central entity set rates instead of just the market based on risk helped create the mess - but the public is ultimately responsible for going along with it.

sorry dude, I wish no ill will to anyone, the housing market will not crash, because what is driving the prices up is not low interest rates...but the fact that there are too many people and not enough housing..so it's a supply and demand issue, and housing will never be affordable again unless that issue is resolved, and although I may have suggested that lower rates might prevent a crash...really it won't but, it just might help some people to keep their homes...If they loose them because of lack of affordability, there are many in line waiting to snap them up...at any cost!

@@HerHomesteadSkills There is more than one factor, it is a complex problem - interest and too easy credit is one of them, if people with 100 to 200k a year incomes couldn't take out 500 to 800k++ mortgages, prices never would have gone up so much. The same monetary policy also allows large institutions/investors to borrow and snatch up property. Supply and demand is a factor too - but the issue is migration, not a lack of housing. "Build more houses" as a solution is just a gift to developers which won't fix anything and will result in more condos and suburban sprawl. Canadian birth rate is below replacement, we don't need a single home built to solve this. Pain is necessary to correct this problem, the longer the can is kicked, the worse the pain will be. My generation even the portion with decent incomes cannot buy homes.

migration and lack of housing are two sides of the same coin... Of course your generation with decent incomes CAN buy a home, however they are not willing to give up anything to achieve that goal...and for most of us sacrificing everything was necessary...this isn't the first housing boom we have experienced in Ontario and it won't be the last.

We had our first salad last night from the garden. If only there were tomatoes ready! I desperately need to get the tomato plants tied better to trellises. Getting two hours sleep at a time with the bottle baby kitten has wrecked me. She's up 10 13 ounces weight so she's sleeping 4 hours now. Yes, politics is nutzo! We're seeing a lot of US flags flying upside down in protest. IDK about the new Mexican President. Time will tell. You're frugal, not cheap! One shows wisdom, the other shows short-sightedness. Yes, President Sheinbaum is very left-wing; however, I have not read that she and President Zelenskyy are related, although her father, iirc, is of Ukrainian heritage. They are both of Jewish heritage, but neither of them are observant. HTH. ❤
