When Goodfellas came out, Samuel L. Jackson was still a relatively obscure character actor who mostly only did small bit parts, so it's not all that strange he appeared so briefly. It wasn't until Jurassic Park and especially Pulp Fiction that he finally started to gain mainstream recognition and get bigger roles.

I enjoyed that reaction. So, Amanda "Two Times", if you thought Robert De Niro's glasses was big in this movie you should watch Casino (1995). It's the third movie in kind of a trilogy where Mean Streets is the first movie and Goodfellas is the second. It's not a trilogy in the sense that it follows the same characters or the plots are connected. It just shows different levels of careers in organised crime, where Mean Streets keeps at the lower levels and Casino handles the top players. So not an official trilogy. I know most think this is a better one, but I like Casino more. Both Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci stars in Casino. And the director's mother - Catherine Scorsese, who played Pesci's mother in this one plays Vinny Vella's mother in Casino. Martin Scorsese had put his mom in his films since 1964. Casino was her last movie.
@amandamiquilena
@amandamiquilena Год назад
Casino was her last?? Oh no 😔 Before reading the comments, I didn't know she was Scorsese's mom. It makes me smile that her son put her in his films and that she was willing to do it, that is definitely 100% what i would do with my mom lol. Thank you for your recommendations!

Well, even _Goodfellas_ romanticizes the mob. Among other things, mob reality doesn’t have a great soundtrack, interesting camera angles and compelling tracking shots. In fact, _Goodfellas_ romanticizes Henry Hill’s book, which itself romanticizes the mob.
@Tusc9969
@Tusc9969 Год назад
@@markhamstra1083 film aesthetics aside, a boy obsessed with the mob life that ends up becoming an addicted-disillusioned criminal who becomes a snitch and goes into hiding for his life, I wouldn't consider that "glamorizing" that lifestyle at all. A mobster becoming a legitimate billionaire, never been in jail and ends up dying of old age at the top getting away with his crimes and corruption IS glamorizing or "romanticizing" the mob life since that "Michael Corleone" lifestyle rarely happens to anyone who enters that life.

The film is based on the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi which was written from a series of interviews with Henry Hill. I read the book and the film is mostly accurate with a few details changed and a lot left out of the story because of the 2 hour runtime. The book explains more of what kind of a person Paulie was, you might not feel sorry for him when he spent the rest of his life in prison after reading it.

Absolutely one of my all-time favorite movies! Supposedly, it is indeed one of the most accurate portrayals of organized crime - not only in the historical events that took place but also the little details like the clothes they wore and the cars they drove, etc. It is based on a non-fiction book by Nicholas Pileggi (who co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese) and Scorsese himself grew up not far from the neighborhoods where this all took place so he was very familiar with the types of people portrayed in the movie. What a classic!

Henry Hill was a fan of the Howard Stern radio show out of NYC . So back in the late 80s or early 90s he show up , out of the witness protection program . They chatted about his mob life & the program that he left . They discussed the possibility of him getting murdered as he left the building . Hill poo pooed the thought & even took phone calls from guys who claimed to be in the mafia . Then one call was Spiders sister & she begged Henry to tell her where her brothers body was . Hill told her that if he admitted to having such knowledge that it would connect him to a murder & even if he knew , he wouldn’t tell her .

It's interesting that you're saying it felt like sinning in the title. Scorsese was raised in an italian-american catholic environment and he projects some of these moral concepts onto his films. At the beginning of the movie when they open the trunk there's this red light symbolizing Henry Hill staring straight into the gates of hell. And then the movie shows how he got to this point.

Stunt coordinator sets up each violence scene with the help from special effects crew who add fake blood and sound effects crew in post-production. He or she have their stunt people to choreograph hits like this one by Henry to safely act without hurting that actor who's playing the creep. It's important to remember that the people portrayed in this movie were horrible people! Henry Hill (his real name) was associated with the Lucchese crime family in New York. Pauli in the movie, was based on Paul Vario, a Capo for the Lucchese "family." Jimmy Conway (Robert Deniro) was based on Jimmy Burke, and both Hill & Burke had Irish roots, like the characters in the movies. He was known as "Jimmy the Gent," because he tipped people a lot of money, especially drivers who gave up their trucks to him. Tommy in the movie, was Tommy DeSimonne (Joe Pesci,) who was said to be even more volatile and ruthless as the character in the movie. According to Hill, he really did murder a waiter like in the scene from the movie, as well as being behind the muder of "Billy Batts" Benventa (played by Frank Vincent in the movie,) According to Hill, all 3 loaded his body in Henry Hill's car, and drove to DeSimonne's mother's house to get shovels and a kitchen knife, which he used when Benveneta came to in the car. Because of how violent and crazy he was, DeSimonne disappeared in real-life at only 28, and it's said that the mob hit was ordered by John Gotti. Burke was the "mastermind" of the "Luftansa heist" which was, at the time, the biggest cash robbery in history, estimated in 1978 at about 6 million dollars. Burke either ordered or was involved with murders of at least 9 of his accomplices after the heist.

This is a classic New York City Organized Crime Mafioso Tale of Crime and punishment with all the richly, sweet delicacies and entrees and the perks it can serve up. Conversely, also we getta see the putrid, foulness in the spot light in all it's glory put on display in this tale of feast or famine in the soft underbelly of the underworld. Showcasing for all to see those that chose this dark path and all that it entails.. Henry Hill was a real person. Weak and pathetic sometimes but still his true life story is fascinating. Like a train wreck. So is this hyped up Hollywood version of The Life in the mob and all those associated with it. Thank you for this choice delicacy. As well as your reaction to it. Kinda like your style. Be seeing ya on the next. Big shoutout to you from this old, "funny guy" in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Peace and love. Take it easy. Later.

I, too, am tired of being poor. But hey, it's a good life as long as you don't mind it ending suddenly and probably violently.
