Batman 1989 is Jack Nicholson's movie, come on. Why is Batman's name even on the title? lol. And I'm going to confess something, towards the end of the movie, i was rooting for the Joker and my brain was booing everytime Bruce was on screen hahaaaa. "Do i look like i'm joking?".

You have no idea, when this film first came out, BatMania was in full swing, you could not escape seeing merchandise on every shelf, toys, video games costumes and happy meals, every TV station was showing reruns of old Batman shows and MTV was playing Prince videos on constant rotation all based on the hype surrounding this one movie

Bruce didn't sleep upside down, he was using Inversion Boots. it's GREAT for back problems, as instead of gravity pushing down on you, the gravity is extending the back muscles and decompressing the spine.

This is one of my favorite movies. I was 9 when it came out and seeing it in the theater was one of my childhood highlights. There was SO MUCH hype around this movie at the time and you couldn't go anywhere without seeing the Batman logo.

Jack Nicholson's Joker & Heath Ledger's are both very different interpretation of the character. It is never fair to compare them, it is apples and oranges. They are both incredible!

Firstly, when the Joker is pretending that water is making him melt, that is from an extremely famous moment in The Wizard of Oz (which is a movie everyone should see). Secondly, You made me laugh when you put on the screen " I love it when movies do the thing". I mean, really, who doesn't love it when movies do the thing?
@AceMoonshot
Tim Burton was always more interested in the 'monster' or 'freak' than the hero. That becomes more apparent the the sequels. Let me just say, McDonald's was not happy having made the deal for toys and then the Penguin hit the screen.
@gylmano
Batman is obsessed with bats because a) when he was a little kid he fell through a hole into the batcave, and a thousand bats shrieked around him (total trauma), and b) when he was deciding what he was going to look like as a vigilante, since criminals are “a superstitious, cowardly lot”, what could strike terror in their hearts - then a bat crashed through the window, and he said that’s it. Also, the guy who killed his parents was a common criminal called Joe Chill, the thing of him being Jack was just for this movie.

"Ever dance with the Devil in the pale Moon light?" This will always be my favorite Batman and Joker, after the TV show this was the first that took it to a dark place. Obviously Heath Ledger took it darker but this balanced the comic feel and the humor with the tragedy and nature of the story.

It's not at all a dumb question! Gotham and Metropolis are both basically inspired by New York City, but in different ways. Two sides of the same coin as it were. Love that you watched this, Amanda! ♥

love seeing a reaction from someone that didn't grow up with Batman. there's something to recommend about nearly every movie involving Batman so while i understand if you don't want to sit through 13 movies, you'll get something different out of any of them.
@LordVolkov
Burton's splashes of bright color are an homage to the Batman of the 60's. If you want a good laugh, try to find Batman '66. It's wild.

i was 10yo when this came out and it was first film in the uk with a 12 age rating, all my friends tried to go with their mums and they wouldnt get in without ID, i went with my dad on a late night showing at 10yo and my dad gave the ticket guy a £10 bribe lol. i was the coolest kid in school as i was the only one to see it when it came out.
@greenpeasuit
I love when movies pick a single artist and let them do a whole soundtrack. It really helps bring a consistency to the experience, tying it all together. Prince on this soundtrack, Linkin Park on one of the Transformers films, Daft Punk on Tron: Legacy.
@Harri927
This movie is my favorite movie of all time and Michael Keaton will always be my favorite Batman.
@CaptainAmercia
The soundtrack of this film is indeed iconic but the other Batman movies do have their own soundtracks its just that Danny Elfman's score for this film is so beloved that for many people it's the definitive theme of Batman. If your a 2000s kid like me then you most likely would've played the Lego Batman game which used the soundtrack of this film. The theme was also for the intro of Batman Animated Series from the 1990s as well but that show had it's own amazing music that for many is on the level level as Elfman's music.
@BessieRiggs
I saw this in the theater when I was 7 or 8 with the family. This remains the favorite and I’ll argue all day that this is the supreme version of the Joker.
@Raven5150
It's hard to explain the joker he started out as a one off comic appearance inthe 40s and then his lore has grown and sky rocketed over the years to the greatest villain ever
@bigdream_dreambig
I'm thrilled that you've chosen to start your Batman journey here. 🙂

Writer Frank Miller has said: "Metropolis is New York City in the middle of the day, while Gotham is New York City at midnight". Canonically, Gotham is supposed to be located in the state of New Jersey- it's actually around were Newark NJ is in real life. Christopher Nolan's trilogy re-imagined Gotham as being more like the city of Chicago.
