As has already been mentioned, Where The Wild Roses Grow was an original composition by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for their Murder Ballads album. Kylie features on another song on that album - a cover of the Bob Dylan classic 'Death Is Not The End'. Cave had wanted to collaborate with Kylie a good 5 years before they hooked up. Kylie cites it as a pivotal moment in her career. GBI is possibly Kylie at her most avant garde. It was written by both Kylie and Towa Tei. They collaborated again almost a decade later when Kylie was having success with Parlophone in the Noughties.
"Where The Wild Roses Grow" was genuinely shocking when it was released. Kylie's character being murdered by Nick Cave's character. Still gives me chills to this day. You may also want to check out the various Kylie TV specials ("The Kylie Show") and Royal Variety Show performances.
You’ve discovered “indie Kylie” !! I absolutely adore when she suddenly splits from the norm and puts out these random pieces of art. Someone mentioned earlier - watch Sleepwalker - it’s an EP she did with Gagas producer Fernando Garibay - again something more recent and very different. . She’s even done kids’ songs and Bollywood. It’s these randoms that make me a fan because she’s not scared to try something and fail get up and try something else. At her age now , it’s not about the sales anymore , it’s about the music.
"Weird Kylie", as some people call it, tends to be the best Kylie and the closest to my heart ❤___❤, cause that's usually when she gets to experiment with her music, like she always says that she'd like to be able to do more often and we see so much more of HER Every time she steps off the "Kylie Brand" sound, it's like a cosmic event, pure brilliance ✌🏻✌🏻
Considering she's been around since the 80s, this is merely a drop in the ocean to what she has done. There are too many songs to mention, by my I would say my 2 favourite songs are 'better the devil you know' and 'all the lovers'. 2 songs that are at complete opposite ends of her music career. She was an actress as well in the early part of her career. Her sister Danni is actually pretty good as well.
I would love to see you react to the Kylie + Garibay masterpiece “Sleepwalker” - it’s gorgeous. (Heads up though, it is a 9 minute short film style video that contains 3 songs in one)
I'm loving how you appreciate all sides of Kylie, all her guises and experimentation. Her quirkiness in song choices has been instrumental in her longevity in my opinion. Keep the Kylie reactions coming.
YES! America needs more Kylie awareness. She is an icon and has incredible music to explore. I have been lucky enough to see her live a few times. Her stage presence and concert productions are top notch. She makes me incredibly happy. Watch her Les Folies (Aphrodite Live) concert video to see a masterpiece. It was incredible to see in person. Her cover of "There Must Be an Angel" is worth the price of admission alone, but that show has countless iconic moments and visuals. Watch it!!!!
I’m so happy your getting to see this side of Kylie you have so much more to come so excited for you :) really needed this today as I’m in isolation so thank you so much for cheering me up and putting on your nice things to do the video always a pleasure and love to you :) xx
I’m so happy you enjoyed Where The Wild Roses Grow. Beautiful collaboration. Their voices are so perfect together. Nick Cave songs are very dramatic and there is always a story. I would be really interested to watch you reacting to some of his songs ❤
WOW what a selection of Kylie Tracks to hear and watch. Only long term Kylie fans would recommend these tracks. I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of them.Where the Wild Roses Grow is such a powerful yet gentle beautiful song about a Murderer and his Victim. Not many artist's could do that .
If you want to hear "House music" meets "90's RnB", listen to her amazing 1994 album. Songs like Where has the Love gone?, Falling, Surrender, and Kylie's all time best known, and most hailed power ballad Dangerous Game (her best song vocally for sure) are songs that show her incredible versatility as an artist. The 1994 album is somewhat a bridge between her guilty pleasure 80's music and the super dark and deeply personal and historical Impossible Princess.
My favourite is WOW I like how coquette and confident she looks with that white hairstyle and the GBI is very cool! She did another song with Towa-Tei called “Sometime Samurai” although there’s no music video featuring Kylie due to her cancer treatment, there is an awesome screen projection here in RU-vid that was used in her X tour, in which she rocks again that surreal Geisha look. I would love to see you reacting to her music videos from the Golden era, there are five: 1. Dancing (the lead single) 2. Stop Me From Falling 3. Stop Me From Falling featuring Gente de la Zona (this version is better than the other one) 4. Golden 5. Music’s Too Sad Without You (love this ballad) Greetings from Scotland!
These few picks really showcased Kylie's aesthetics, in terms of hair, wardrobe & song choices. Casual fans just think she's limited to pop & disco. Oh & asleep "woke" ppl please don't come for her in a kimono in the GBI mv. She's in the damn video with the great Towa Tei & if he didn't have a problem with it (probably his idea to put Kylie in kimono & geisha-inspired makeup LOL) you certainly don't have to voice none.
She's reported to have described the outfit as "insanely stressful" and said the wig was a nightmare. Apparently it was an authentic japanese kimono (although the stylist was said to be Chinese). This song was new to me but shows that Kylie can turn her talents to anything
She did the Nick Cave collaboration because he was trying to reach out to her. She was dating Michael Huthence at the time. She didn't even know who Nick Cave was. The legend goes, Nick's mum called Kylie's mum and they did phone tag. Then eventually he got into contact with a Kylie and said hey, I'm doing a collaboration album She asked her record label and they were like ok, not what we were thinking but sure . It was one of the few songs that cool alternative Australian radio played. And it hit number 1. She became friends with Nick Cave and she was asked in the late 90s to attend the British Poetry Awards and perform. She called Nick and said I don't write poetry, what do I do? He said speak Lucky Lucky Lucky, in a dramatic way. She did it in track pants, sweat shirt and no bra. Minimal make-up. It was mesmerising. She was running from her past, but Nick Cave encouraged her to embrace it. She is bad ass. And she had drugs with Michael Huthence. I mean hello.
Oh I just LOVE whre the wild roses grow. That's how I knew Kylie, that's who she was for me before her Light Years came out. A dark princess. The impossible princess. The Elisa Day.
Kylie is so versatile and such an amazing artist. Love all of this but especially Where The Wild Roses Grow and GBI. Although she looks and SOUND extremely gorgeous in If You Were With Me Now. More Kylie from you always a must. Some lives are proving she's flawless singer and performer😍
It's so great seeing Kylie and Nick Cave sing that song live, particularly the live at Koko version if you were ever interested in watching that. They have a very obvious chemistry that is a joy to watch and the crowd just love it. Thanks as always!
Nice! As always i love your reactions! And these are ones of my favourite tracks from Kylie's career. It's always fun to see new fans reacting to these hidden gems. Keep the reactions coming! xx
your makeup is amazing! I loved your expression of surprise and uncertainty when you listen to and watch GBI. It is one of the rarest songs that exists, of course produced by Towa Tei and with the voice of Kylie. A cult song for fans. With Towa Tei there is another song with Kylie called "Sometimes Samurai" has no official video but there is a very good fan-made video.
That 'Murder Ballad' by Kylie and Nick Cave is so disturbing that I can't watch it intentionally. I've only ever seen it once before. It is stunning and the song is amazing but like I said, it freaks me out. Loving your look today. Maybe one day as a treat, you will show us your routine (or is it a secret?)
Hi Pancake...You are dressed appropriately to showcase more Kylie video! Fabulous! Love your reactions to this icon, Australia's answer to Madonna. She's come a long way from her, "Locomotion" days. Still a favorite! Have you listen to her Christmas songs? "Everyday is Like Christmas". I recommend the Stock, Aitken Waterman Remix and her remake of Connie Francis, "I'm Gonna Be Warm this Winter". These two festive songs should bring you a little Kylie Christmas! Enjoy!🎶
What a great selection of Kylie to watch. GBI, I hadn't heard before either, loved it. Great fun watching these with you and you look amazing, what's not to love. So happy I found your channel.
Love that you love these. I love the second song and GBI. Thanks to some of your comments, Chiggy Wiggy, Black and White, Monkey Man and What Kind of Fool are my 4 recommendation. Thanks.
I noticed that you haven't done any of the 80's teenybopper Kylie songs/videos, beside "I Should Be So Lucky". I'd love to see you react to "Got to Be Certain" and "Hand on Your Heart", especially. Cheesy, but super catchy melodies, in that very distinct Hi-NRG/British Eurobeat sound that SAW (Stock Aitken Waterman) produced, back then. It's fun to know where she started, 'cause you can see her growth since then. How she's reinvented herself several times, throughout the years, both musically and visually. Never afraid to experiment with her sound, and collaborate with a wide range of artists and producers.
I have to admit, I was never a kylie fan in the 80s but I love her now, shes just amazing. You need to check out ‘music’s too sad without you’ (live from Venice) with Jack Savoretti It’s stunning 😍 Jack Savoretti’s album ‘singing to strangers’ is amazing. The album name was inspired by his daughter talking to her friend, her friend asked her what her dad does for a job and her response was ‘I don’t really know but he goes round the world singing to strangers.’ 😭❤️ and ‘singing to strangers’ the album was born. How adorable is that? X.
Awesome songs, awesome reactions! You need to react to the version of Slow Kylie did on the Graham Norton Show, it incorporates David Bowie's song Fashion! Also you need to watch the opening of the Brit Awards where K performed "Can't get you out of my head" - iconic!
Hi ! Cool react as always. I like the multi reaction concept very much. If i may suggest, you could try Yelle - j’veux un chien or Corine - maquillage or Mylène Farmer - Avant que l’ombre live /intro or outro live videos. Sorry i can’t post link for your convenience because RU-vid delete such commentaires with links sometimes. Hope you the best.
I was going to suggest reacting to Heros Live Forever by Vanessa Amorosi, performed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. By far one of the best vocal performances by anyone - ever. She’s Australian too.
can I recommend watching 'Finer Feelings', 'Timebomb', 'Get Outta My Way' and 'What Do I Have To Do' - I am a big Kylie fan and these are my fav vids of hers
I’d love a whole album of tracks like ‘GBI’ , the nearest equivalent I’d say is ‘Too far ‘ from her impossible princess album, the best single that never was
You should do music videos of Kylie’s sister, Dannii Minogue. I’d recommend Put The Needle On It, All I Wanna Do, I Begin To Wonder, Baby Love (one her first hits in Australia), and Touch Me Like That. She was famous before Kylie…then Kylie exploded. Actually they performed a single together - 100 Degrees, which is great! You look absolutely gorgeous, by the way!
In Where wild roses grow he is a psychopath obssesed with her, he took her to the river and killed her with a rock. And now she is ghost recounting events that led to her murder!
