MTV produced an episode of "True Life" centered around pro wrestlers at various levels in their careers; a young an inspiring trainee named Matt, current WWF performers Triple H and Chyna, and former WWF Superstar Tony Atlas on the independent scene. "True Life: I'm a Pro Wrestler" is actually pretty good as we see the struggles of pro wrestlers at different points in their careers.
Other wrestlers in the show include The Rock, Billy Gunn and Shark Boy

Some say Benoit was set up. Look at the current situation with Billy Jack Haynes. Everyone is saying he would never hurt his wife, he loved her dearly. @paulghignon4092

@@stevengallant6363 yeah and some people say the earth is flat, doesn't mean there's credibility behind the idea. Benoit did what he did and you're going to need to accept that. To provide just the extra bit of context for the portion toward the beginning when we first meet Matt when the video cut out... He was explaining that he used to take his father's credit card to sign up for classes, and would spend thousands of dollars in one day signing up for multiple classes, fees, books, etc and then the next day would go party with his friends and skip class. I saw most of these specials when they originally aired, and have most of them on VHS tape somewhere, so I always love when you do these videos. A bit of useless trivia, but I've worked on several shows with Tony Atlas over the years, and was fortunate enough to be his tag partner for a match a couple of years ago. Wrestling is crazy. Anybody who's been in it for 5 minutes or more will have a similar story; that's what makes it so great even at the smaller level. People often talk about the independents with a focus on the noteworthy lack of glamor compared to the WWE, but what gets lost in all that is the many opportunities to do cool stuff you only dreamed of doing as a kid. "I had dinner with Kevin Nash, I got to team with Tony Atlas", and so on. Tony is also a very, very funny guy. He has a very dry delivery and that really puts it over. He's one of those guys where everybody jokes about his "interests" but they all love having him around.

I remember watching this when it first aired and I feel in love with Chyna. She made me feel better about myself. Being a girl who was in shape and had muscles due to my years of sport and being made fun for not having the typically female body and seeing her and her body just gave me more confidence in myself as a preteen/ teenage girl. RIP to the 9th Wonder of the World

I was hoping someone else realized that. I saw the name on the shirt, then thought "Wait... that faces does kind of look like him", and then I checked Wikipedia & it said that he started in 1997 with a football gimmick. Absolutely wild, man. MTV should have followed Snitsky around instead of "Matt Classic".

I remember watching this when I was a kid. But the thought of how WWF & WCW had everything locked down so tightly never occurred even though they were saying it every other scene. And honestly I am glad that today we have so many promotions that can give guys who can’t make it to the “big shows” a chance to showcase their passion so to speak.

I was surprised by how good this MTV piece was. It's sort of a depressing watch but highly intriguing overall, pulling back the curtain a bit more for casual viewers/fans. I do wonder how much things have changed, especially on the indie scene.

That show “True Life”, was great. I thought it was so interesting to see all these different dives into worlds. I remember being so excited for this to air! The curtain still wasn’t peeled all the way back when this aired. Still a bit of an air of mystery about how it all played out “backstage”. These guys and gals lives were so much more of a mystery to we fans. So something like this and the OG “Wrestling with Shadows”, was utterly fascinating to us.

This was great. I don’t know if you have already, but it’d be cool if you could do other wrestling documentaries the same way you did this. There’s Slammed, Card Subject to Change, The Backyard and Beyond the Mat ect.

When the WWF started expanding in the early 1980s one of the reasons Vince got the company so big so fast can be seen by the promoter in this video - they thought of themselves as little lords of their own fiefdom and didn't want anybody else getting a foot in their domain and they weren't willing to work with or bend to help another out.
