In this biographical drama, Selena Quintanilla (Jennifer Lopez) is born into a musical Mexican-American family in Texas. Her father, Abraham (Edward James Olmos), realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez (Jon Seda), who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete.

Fun facts: Prior to this movie J.Lo was a fly girl on the 90s sketch comedy show In Living Color & she was on the short lived 90s sitcom South Central. That day I was driving home when I heard the news of her passing. Everyone in Corpus was probably calling other family members and friends because I couldn't get my calls through. It would say all cruits are busy! Everyone was crying and couldn't get enough of her music playing on the radio. They did hold a vigil for her and there were so many people with poster, signs and candles! It took a while for Corpus to recover from her death!

It’s just the energy around it, also the construction of the melodies and beat in general is why it sounds so sad. This movie hits hard. It's impossible to not cry at the end of it, especially when they show the montage of pictures and videos of her as her song "Dreaming Of You" plays. Being Mexican-American myself, Selena was basically our Princess Diana. She was incredibly talented and supremely kind, But ultimately died young. She was only 23 at the time of her death. Side note: That red lip is AMAZING on you

I look at Selena as a cautionary tale cuz not every bitch is your friend and sometimes you have to treat people at a distance here some stuff you might not know:Selena’s ring: it was purchased in January 1995 for $3,000 dollars and was swiped with Selena’s corporate bank card because Yolanda did pocket those ladies money. The motel used for the death scene is a real motel it’s the Super 8 in San Antonio, TX Ww White Road also when Selena dropped the ring in the ambulance that really did happen but in the movie it was J.Lo’s stand-in. The only song ever recorded by Selena at Q Productions was Dreaming of You and Q Productions is used for the I could fall in love scene.

I used to live in Kingsville an hour south of where she was shot. I was twelve, and I was in Corpus Christi the day she was shot. I got allergy shots in Calallen every other Friday, which is between Kingsville and Corpus Christi, and when we got out of the doctors office, we went shopping at Sam's club which was in Corpus Christi. When we were loading the car, we could hear the sirens of all the cop cars. There were a lot speeding to the motel where she was shot. At the moment, we had no clue until the radio station broke the news on the trip back to Kingsville. The following Monday, I got to school, and everybody was crying. They canceled school after second period class. Because they could not teach with everyone so devastated. Selena was such a big influence on a lot of my generation. Especially where I grew up.

I've been watching this movie since it came out and the end still absolutely destroys me 😭 she was such a beautiful person inside and out, and she deserved to live a long, happy life with her husband and family and share her talent with the world. I guess in a bittersweet way, the latter came true. I hope her killer stays where she belongs and if she gets out, gets capped the way she did Selena. I’m the same when the movie ends. I wasn’t alive when she was alive but I’m such a big fan of her since I was little. I’m always thankful to Selena for representing us Mexican American in such an amazing way. Not only that but being such a role model to so many young girls like me who grew up listening to her and am now a women. She was taken from us too soon but in those few years she gave us she made such a huge impact on this world.

Surprisingly, her father was the executive producer on this film I believe, he said that even though this came out 2 years after her death. He wanted the world to know about his daughter

33:39- Selena's story teaches us to be mindful of who you trust. Then again Jesus knew betrayal before anybody. 38:35- The crazy part is Yolanda gets out of prison next year in 2025. I suggest Yolanda get a bodyguard.
