Tbh Rodrick Rules is the only one that I much prefer the live action movie than the source material itself. I think making Rodrick feeling "betrayed" by Greg after all the times they had fun together then seeing them reconcile was actually pretty heartwarming. Not to mention both Devon and Zachary had pretty amazing chemistry hence why Rodrick Rules is my fav in the trilogy and felt it was much better than the book.

I think the reason people rag on the visuals of these movies aren’t because they’re bad, but because before they came out when whatever production debacle was happening, a test animation/proof of concept came out that looked more reminiscent of the books (as in, characters were kept to specific angles so there was less mouth moving around the face and cursed front facing characters), so when these came out people felt robbed

In the book Greg was stuck in the basement during the party but not with Rowley but they didn’t actually show the party in the book, Rowley didn’t absolutely roast Greg in the book, Holly wasn’t in the RR book she appears in a later book I think or wasn’t important to the story, Frank found the pictures but not in front of the family and the guests, Greg didn’t become the drummer in the book and Greg and Rodrick didn’t make up by talking but by Greg finishing his homework for him after he got embarrassed. The part with Greg locked in the basement and not taken part at the party is like what happens in the books. Also in the book, Frank finds out about the party when he was getting the photos from Thanksgiving. in the end Roderick does go to perform in the talent show.

One thing I haven't seen people mention about Rodrick Rules is that they kept the conclusion of the viral video subplot with Susan dancing on stage, but they removed all of the buildup of Greg and Rowley trying to go viral

OK, OK accuracy, let's see... in Rodrick rules they focus more on their relationship rather than it being in the background like the book. Some events are swapped around or put together to make the plot run a bit smoother. Greg's betrayal of Rodrick is completely new and I did not see it coming. Holly isn't in the second book but she is in the third, although her role is quite minor so we can expect her in the next movie
