The beatles are a 60s band so don't have many music videos, they have some old ones and a few newly made ones and they are all worth reacting to. They're all great videos and legendary songs.

The Beatles may not be your favorite band but they are, undoubtedly, the best band in history. Aside form the sales, hits, and general popularity, the Beatles did more for music than any other artist. They experimented with different instruments, techniques, and production. They also helped the artists wrest control of their own music from the studios. There will never be another Beatles.

Agreed… and so much more, from the hair (many young people wanted a Beatle haircut back then instead of ‘short back and sides’) to writing their own material (it wasn’t done much until they came along) to refusing to perform to a segregated audience when they were booked in the States… and more.

The MELODIES are the most important, and the Beatles are the best, have written melodies as if they were the greatest musicians on Earth! Many great musicians/song writers from the past and today have written and write great songs and music, but not as many musical categories and the numbers of wonderful melodies, just can`t be countered, FACT! George Martin claimed; The Beatles were the greatest song writers of the 20th century, and so far, it`s still the best at the start of the 21rst century, UNBELIEVABLE, but an obvious FACT!!!!

Man, Ringo Starr has got to be the most underrated musician in music history. Not only did he change how people approach the drums in a pop or rock context, he is one of very few drummers who are instantly recognisable. The ultimate servant of the song. You know, it’s a funny thing about The Beatles, I can listen to one of their songs a thousand times and notice something that I never noticed before. For example, during “Hey Jude” Paul begins to sing “Take a load off Fanny, and put the load back on me”, which, of coarse, is a line from The Band’s song “The Weight”. ☺️

@@magicbrownie1357 who? Of course there's always going to be a bloke who says Mick Jagger can't sing or Eddie Van Halen sucked, etc but despite the fact that every single Beatles video on RU-vid has hundreds of people claiming that Ringo is underrated, they only say it in order to point out that THEY don't underrated him and are aware of his brilliance but that these imaginary "other" people underrated him. Despite the lazy meme that ringo is underrated, literally the only thing you can find online are drummer forums, rock forums, interviews, critiques, videos, articles etc from music fans, fellow musicians and critics talking about how brilliant he was and why. Despite the fact that he's universally critically lauded as a brilliant drummer, despite the fact that he's the highest paid drummer in the history of the world, and despite virtually every single drummer since dating Ringo was a major influence on them, people still pretend that he's underrated. Yeah, I understand that your mate at the pub who doesn't listen to the Beatles because they were recording 70 years ago might say they sucked and they like today's music better-- just like you probably rarely listen to the Andrew Sisters-- but Ringo is almost universally acclaimed as a great musician. Of course Lennon, McCartney and Harrison get more attention but they were better songwriters/ singers and stood in the front during live shows. So as a songwriter Ringo is not rated as highly of course. Is that why you thought he was underrated as a drummer?

I was 10 years old when the Beatles came to America. They were the biggest thing ever! Each week,we waited for their next number one hit! Try listening to some of their early stuff and see how they changed over the years. The songs you were listening to were mostly from their later days, some from just before they broke up, like their last concert performed on the rooftop of Abby Road Studio. If you notice, every song has something new added to it, in each verse or chorus; a new instrument or harmony, hand claps, key change, tempo change, etc. It's never boring. Also, they wrote and performed many various styles of music. Enjoy!

So happy that you are starting to dive into the Beatles catalog! For "Here Comes the Sun," that was George Harrison on lead vocals. The Beatles started the British Invasion of pop and rock music in 1964 in the U.S. and changed the course of rock and roll. I recommend a mix of their early hits like "I Want to Hold Your Hand" (their first hit, both John and Paul on lead vocals ... which also went to No. 1 ... that introduced them to American radio in January 1964), "Yesterday" (1965, credited to the Beatles but really only Paul), "We Can Work It Out" (1965/Paul) and "In My Life" (1966/John) ... and later hits like "With a Little Help From My Friends" (1968, featuring Ringo on lead vocals), "Something" (1969, with George on lead vocals), "Let It Be" (1970/Paul), "I've Got a Feeling" (1970/Paul and John, from the same Apple Corps Studios rooftop concert as "Don't Let Me Down") and "Across the Universe" (1970/John).

Thoroughly enjoyed your reactions to these classic Beatles songs - well, of course all Beatles songs are classics in one way or another. With their diverse collective musical vocabulary, they created entirely new sounds, opening the doors for many of the genres and styles that later bands would develop. Formed in 1957, from a relatively simple base as a live R&B/pop/beat/rock'n'roll covers band, their evolution was fast and intense as their creativity blossomed and they moved from the standard 1950s/early 60s pop themes of teenage love to exploring deeper ideas and images, while their musical production just got better and better, more sophisticated and experimental. Revolutionarily for the time, they became the first band to write almost all of their own material. Everyone has their favourite Beatles songs and periods within their short but intense 8 year recording career, from 1962-70. You'll just have to start to explore and see what your own favourites are. My recommendations: For earlier (ie before full-on Beatlemania) stuff, their entire live set on Swedish TV's "Drop-In" Show from 1963. It's a great vibe with the boys still hungry to win over their relatively reserved Swedish audience. For mid period stuff when they started moving away from the romantic love themes, try listening to Norwegian Wood and Fool On The Hill or Nowhere Man. Then prepare to be amazed by Helter Skelter, Tomorrow Never Knows and A Day In The Life. Lastly, transport yourself to another world with the whole of Abbey Road, Side Two, their final recorded group offering to the world before they went their separate ways.

Yasssss! I’m so glad you’re diving into The Beatles! 🫶🏽 You know I love your Britney and boy band vids but The Beatles (and McCartney) are my true loves (grew up in a Beatles lovin’ family.) They are still the best-selling artists of all time (and they only released music for about 7 years.) Their talent, innovation, and influence are unmatched. They have some 300 songs that cover many genres, but very few songs are alike. (Oh, and songs were short in the early 60s for radio, about 2 minutes 😉)

@@PancakeMarshmallowDude Yes! They don’t have a ton videos because of the times (tho, they were among the first to do them.) They’re mostly from their later years. However, there are a few live performances from the early days you can react to… The Ed Sullivan Show episodes, there’s an Australian concert that’s great, Blackpool Night Out and Manchester ABC. You can pull songs from those. All on RU-vid and during the height of Beatlemania (so prepare for a lot of screaming girls lol.)

Wow! It's so hard to get an idea of the Beatles from so few songs and it's hard to try to give you only a few more suggestions but to get an idea of their early success I'd definitely suggest "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" or "She Loves You". At some point you've got to hear "Yesterday" which I imagine you've at the very least heard a cover of since it is the most covered song in music. "Something" is not far behind in that regard, so that's another you need to hear. To get an idea of their rockers I'd suggest "Revolution", "I'm Down", and "Helter Skelter". "I Feel Fine", "Got to Get You Into My Life", and "Let it Be" are ones you shouldn't miss either. I could go on listing at least 20 more but that will get you going.

I was just a wee thing in 1st grade and I brought in a Beatles album for show and tell. They just hit here in America as the giant stars they became. My teacher wouldn’t let me play the album. I was allowed to talk about it but that’s all. The Beatles radicalized all of us kiddies, and we’re also thankful. Hope you got a smile from this little story.

If you want to see a early LIVE harmony, check out their performance of 'This Boy' from 'The Ed Sullivan Show' when they did the show from Florida. These guys have a huge rabbit hole. They came in on top and stayed their breakup in 1970. Everyone was just trying to keep up with them until 1967 when they left everyone in the dust. They didn't know how to read or write music and yet the combination of their specific geniuses was the perfect wave. 'Don't Let Me Down' was a rooftop performance and the last time they ever played in public. The irony is that unless you were up on another roof you wouldn't get to see them. The businesses in the immediate area complained about the disruption and the police were called. However, the general public on the streets were largely appreciative. 'Hey Jude' was LIVE with a real orchestra behind them, but they did have a prerecorded track behind them to fill out the sound for TV. This performance was on the show starring David Frost. In the states, we got to see it via 'The Smothers Brothers' show. They also did 'Revolution' on the show. Very worth seeing. 'Help' was just a music video. Songs had to be short back then in order to get on the radio. However, 'Hey Jude' changed that. That's how great their influence was. 'Here Comes The Sun' is kind of melancholy as it came off their actual last album. George was blossoming as a song writer but wasn't getting a lot of support from John and Paul. But he had hope that things would get better.

I always liked the Beatles, and had a few favorite songs, but I never realized how truly great they were until I was working from home during the pandemic and listened to all of their songs in chronological order. Every album they put out had a new style, and every album they improved musically over the one before. To think that 4 guys from the same city did all that in such a short time (11 albums in 7 years) is astounding.

I was about 12-13 when I first heard the Beatles and I followed their evolution until they split up when I was in college. Years passed. When I was 36, my son was born. I wanted to sing him lullabies, but realized that I really had not learned any. So when his bedtime came, I chose as lullabies, 3 songs I knew (and could sing reasonably well) -- "Michelle," "yesterday," and "In My Life." (The latter became my favorite lullaby and love song.)

If you like their harmonies, you should listen to "Because" from the Abbey Road album. Paul, John and George perform a 3 way harmony which was recorded 3 times in order to make 9 voices, and the result is increadible. Another one I recommend, not due to the harmonies, but simply because of the complexity and uniqueness of the song is "A Day In The Life" from the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

The first song you played, Don't Let Me Down, was from their very last appearance. It was a concert on the roof of Abbey Rd. Studios. You need to back to the very beginning of their music career, most all of which they wrote themselves. Their music really changed over the years. I was 10 years old when they first came to America. It came to be known as the British Invasion. I cannot overestimate the affects the Beatles had in the music scene as well as the whole world. etc.!

Keep in mind in the 60s these were not called "music videos" they were promotional films and videos meant to promote a single or give TV shows Beatles content they could broadcast. Unlike today where music videos are like mini-movies these were done quickly just to have *something* on video. In late 1965 they ran through like 5 songs of simple miming to the record so they could send those tapes out to whoever and not have to go somewhere and do a live performance in house. The big change was the 1967 video for "Strawberry Fields Forever" which was certainly meant to be a visual as well as musical piece.

I think the best examples of their works are: Eleanor Rigby; She's Leaving Home; Nowhere Man; Girl; Here, there and everywhere; In my Life; Within you, Without you. This is only to name a few. John Lennon also wrote one of the best songs ever written on his own: imagine. I even used one of their songs as my wedding song! It was perfect for our first dance.
