I am so happy you guys are loving this film. One thing to keep in mind is that "Game of Thrones", "Harry Potter" and others like them were inspired by Tolkien who wrote Lord of the Rings in the 1950s, the Hobbit was written in 1937. The material for these books came from the Silmarillion which he started writing during the First World War in the trenches. Tolkien was a professor of languages at Cambridge and had been inventing languages from the time he was a child.

Tolkien's Elves are a little different than portrayed in the movie. In the books the Elves are great partyers and love to drink wine and sing songs till the sun comes up. They are also great put-down artists and will laugh out loud in your face at their own jokes. When the Elf tells Gimli that Dwarves breath so loudly they could have shot him in the dark, all the Elves burst out laughing at the insult. Tolkien's Elves are confident, cocky, love a good joke and live to party. That coupled with a natural desire to constantly beautify the world around them.
@cp368productions2

It's the Woodland Realm, King Thranduil's people who are the ones who party and drink a lot. Lorian Elves and Imladris Elves weren't heavy drinkers
@Muck006
@Muck006 2 месяца назад
There are also THREE DIFFERENT "realms of elves" ... Rivendell is "perpetual autumn", Lothlorien is "perpetual spring/summer" and the woodland kingdom isnt really magical (apart from the "natural magic" of elves). Those DETAILS are lost to the reactors ... just like "all white men are the same" or "all black men are the same" in political discussions today.

At 40:55, Aragorn felt really bad about breaking Eowyn's heart. In the book, later in the story Aragorn tells Eomer, "Few other griefs amid the ill chances of this world have more bitterness and shame for a man's heart than to behold the love of a lady so fair and brave that cannot be returned. Sorrow and pity have followed me ever since I left her desperate in Dunharrow and rode to the Paths of the Dead; and no fear upon that way was so present as the fear for what might befall her."

Denethor was a good ruler and had been fighting Mordor bravely for many years. When his wife died after giving birth to Faramir, he was heartbroken. He was eventually driven mad by Sauron the Deceiver who used the seeing stones to poison Denethor's mind with hopelessness for the fate of Gondor.

At 21:02, Gandalf is coughing while smoking. The actor who played Gandalf says this is anti-smoking propaganda (they did not wish to glorify smoking), but I like to see it that Gandalf has been resurrected as Gandalf the White and could no longer enjoy pipeweed as he once did as Gandalf the Grey. This is more consistent with the books, which tell us that smoking was naturally enjoyed by Gandalf the Grey, which made Saruman the White jealous.

Smeagol and Deagol were best friends and first cousins. But Deagol was the follower where Smeagol led. The ring, after 2500 years at the bottom of the river, seized Smeagol as being the Leader very quickly because the Ring wanted someone proactive. It didn't realise that Smeagol was a very inward looking person, as opposed to adventurous. So, the Rings influence worsened that part of Smeagol... hence into the tunnels under the Misty Mountains Smeagol took it.
@Muck006

The point is more: "the ring likes/CAN AFFECT people that WANT to USE/EXERT POWER", which is why the Hobbits werent really affected "until they had the ring for a loooooonnngg time". This is why "concerning Hobbits" is a NECESSARY introduction in "Fellowship", you need to UNDERSTAND THEIR NATURE! *_Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely ... and the corrupt are drawn to power!_*

In his youth, the son of Ecthelion II was considered bold and brave, clever, far-sighted and learned. By chance - according to Gandalf - the blood of Númenor runs almost unadulterated through his veins. After the early death of his beloved wife Finduilas, who died giving birth to Faramir, he became increasingly bitter, sullen, and spent many hours alone in his tower. As trustee (from 2984) he ruled imperiously and as he saw fit. He suspected that Mordor would start a war with Gondor within his lifetime and finally, confident in his own strength, dared to look into the Palantír of Minas Tirith (what is not shown in the movies). It is believed that this is also how he found out that Aragorn, under the code name Thorongil, had been in Ecthelion's service. Since the fall of Minas Ithil, no king or steward had ever dared to look into the Palantír. So Denethor gained great knowledge, but due to the constant struggle with Sauron, he aged far before his time. Sauron took advantage of Denethor's fear and confused his mind. Denethor made a series of bad decisions. For example, he ordered the withdrawal of troops on the southern and eastern borders of Gondor, so that Easterlings and Haradrim angrily invaded Mordor. Ithilien's rangers alone made it more difficult for Sauron's allies to invade. Denethor became more and more moody and took this out especially on his younger son Faramir. He behaved differently towards his firstborn son Boromir; in him he saw his younger image.
@Muck006
@Muck006 2 месяца назад
... in the end he was corrupted by ... "PROPAGANDA LIES" from Sauron the deceiver. That is something people of today should understand, because all media are broadcasting propaganda (because sensationalist / extremist messages easily evoke a reaction and thus increase viewership and profit AND because many "journalists" are activists today).

"Why did you shoot that guy, he just helped us!" Legolas is a good guy. They were talking to Saruman, he was captured, they weren't killing him. A bad guy then murdered him. So Legolas killed the bad guy. This isn't how it happened in the book, and this scene didn't exist in the theatrical release, but when it did come out on the extended editions, I never questioned why did the good guy kill the bad guy and it struck me as odd that you thought it was wrong for the good guy to kill the bad guy that just murdered a prisoner. Also, they made Gollum cute and likeable in a way, and even in the scene where Sam catches him talking about killing them, he implies he's only ever killed another 'person' once before. But in the books, he was so evil that for food he would sometimes sneak into the windows of babies and steal them and eat them... So I've never found him cute. He's simply a tool that God uses to ensure the ring falls into the lava at the end (in the books he dances in joy at regaining it after biting it off Frodo's hand and just falls in do to Eru Illuvitar, The One God's intervention) Frodo doesn't fight or fall at the precipice of the Crack of Doom. The films are my fav and so are the books, love watching people enjoy it too! Thanks.

Everyone thinks its weird that smeagol succumbs to the ring so fast but that misunderstands what the ring does. It tempts you with visions of what you want to achieve, do, or have - knowing that its going to corrupt that desire. But you dont have to have an evil desire to succumb to the ring. You just have to have a strong desire. Boromir’s desire for the ring was well-intentioned. But because it was strong, it pulled boromir in fast. Smeagol wants a birthday present. A lot. And its that desire that the ring used to overwhelm him (corrupting him and the ‘birthday present’ by making his birthday present come at the cost of murdering Deagol and being exiled). The point is, smeagol’s overwhelming desire for a birthday present is super strong - emphasing how shallow he is. But it doesnt mean smeagol was evil. In the books - and in parts of the movies - when hes muttering to himself, gollum says ‘it came to me. My birthday present. Mine. They stole it’. In the books, sam briefly puts on the ring. The ring shows him a vision of mordor turned into a beautiful garden, full of flowers and of sam throwing down sauron;s tower. Sam ignores the vision, because he says to himself, ‘im just a small hobbit, i cant defeat sauron, the vision is just one of the ring’s deceptions’. Sam is grounded. Smeagol was not. But with the ring, gollum can ignore his miserable conditions because the ring gives him splendid delusions. Thats why gollum wants the ring. As sam says, gollum is too far gone to come back. Ps it would have been a spoiler to say this earlier, but the vision of arwen lingering on after aragorn’s death, that elrond described to arwen, is a true vision.

This is why Gollun taunted Smeagol with 'murderer' before Smeagol tells his Gollun half to leave and never come back. The first thing he did when he saw the Ring was attack and murder Deagol The fate of Saruman and Wormtongue is quite different in the book. Saruman is alive when they leave Orthanc, but Wormtongue throws the Palantir at them (I don' t think he knows what it is). Treebeard lets them go from the tower and they cause more mischief in the Shire before Womtongue finally kills Saruman. This is why it is crucial that Theoden does not kill him earlier. 23:15 These are Orcs. the Uruk-Hai were bred by Saruman. Mordor has cast shadow over the whole battlefield, so the sunlight-fearing standard orcs are still usable. I believe that Denethor's wife died giving birth to Faramir. Denethor also has a seeing-stone like the one Saruman had, and Sauron has driven him mad through it. I'm told Dominic Monaghan is a professional singer as well as an actor, tnat's why they cast him as Pippin and had him sing. 47:20 They really overdid the number of skulls, skulls at the entrance, skulls on the floor and an avalanche of skulls? Far too many even for an army.

Smeagol and Deagol were cousins. In the book they do talk with Saruman INSIDE Orthanc and he does use those words to sew doubt into their minds but he doesn't die at Orthanc. He dies in The Shire when Wormtongue cuts his throat and Wormtongue runs only for Hobbits lead by Frodo Baggins to shoot him dead with arrows before Frodo could stop them. The dream Eowyn has is actually a dream Faramir and Boromir have over and over and that was why Boromir went to Rivendell. The reforging of Narsil into Anduril Flame of the West actually happened in The Fellowship of the Ring before they left Rivendell. And the way they show it being reforged wouldn't work beyond its first use, it would break again. They have to melt the steel and pour it out into a form.

Tree-beard calling Gandalf young “young master Gandalf” is wild. Gandalf is thousands of years old. Tree-beard is thousands of years older than Gandalf but Gandalf’s TRUE form is older than Tree-beard 😅

8:30 so Legolas was 🏹 🎯 simply abiding by goal of apprehending Saruman to face justice AND questioning by presumably Gandalf and Theoden as to the whereabouts and strategies of Sauron's forces. That's why he shot him. I hadn't fully articulated why until now. So once again, Grima foils the plans of the Company. Plus, in interviews, director Peter Jackson shares how Christopher Lee clarified to him, based on Lee's own real life WWII british service war experience and exploits whithout going into detail that when Saruman is stabbed in the back (and punctures a lung 🫁 presumably), a stabbed 🗡 man doesn't make a sound (as Lee was directed to) with the quote paraphrased: have you ever heard a man being stabbed in the back? 12:50 exactly! 😄

Denethor the Steward had such banging lines. They lose none of their potency on screen - just makes you appreciate how powerful Tolkien’s writing is. And even when it’s actually Fran Walsh’s and Philippa Boyens’ writing they manage to channel his essence so well. “You think you are wise, Mithrandir, yet for all your subtleties you have not wisdom.” “With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor. And with your right you'd seek to supplant me.” “It should have been kept, hidden, hidden dark and deep. Not to be used … unless at the uttermost end of need…” That delivery of “uttermost” just gives you such an insight into the will of Denethor (in the books he was strong and could, at least for a time, contend with the will of Sauron). Uttermost - at the end of the rope! The nadir and spiritual desperation it conveys just gives such an epic feeling. Poetic, yet tragic!

Something about Smeagol pre-ring that the movie doesn't explain - Deagol was already one of the few people who put up with him because Smeagol was a nasty piece of work. He was a tattletale, sneak, and spy. So he was already not very nice and the ring found it really easy to corrupt him.

That's what it means.. And He petrified at that moment.. So, he realized what he did.. Dont blame him guys.. He effected over 30 years from his Palantir.. Sauron poisoned his mind.. He regretted so much after his order..

Denethor (Steward of Gondor) was corrupted, during the exchange with Gandalf at the start Denethor let us know what was going on behind the scenes in Minas Tirith: "..Do you think the eyes of the White Tower are blind, I have seen more than you know. With your left hand you would use me as a shield against Mordor and with your right you would seek to supplant me" He is speaking of the return of the rightful heir to the throne of Gondor, Aragorn. Which can only be explained by seeing into all that moves, present, past and possible future, leading to the use of a Palantir, the very same crystal ball Saruman used to communicate with Sauron. There were seven of them and one was kept secret in the White Tower of Gondor, which only Denethor had access to. Note: 20:30 The original Title for the first movie 'Fellowship of the Ring' was supposed to be 'There and Back Again'. Basically you have to watch the movies over again to get more hidden information.

Faramir was wise brother, Boromir was a warrior.. Their Father (Denethor) doesnt show his love to Faramir because Faramir looks exactly like himself (Denethor).. When Denethor looks Faramir, he sees himself.. Also, in the books Denethor was a big and wise man.. If the wises man of this world is Gandalf, Denethor could be second.. But He poisoned for tens of tens years.. There is a palantir stone at Minastirith and he used that palantir over 30 years.. Sauron effected him for 30 years and Sauron poisoned his mind that is no victory against Mordor armies idea.. Because of this he looks like a shitty man.. But at the books, he is so wise and great leader.. It's similar to ring effects..

The Stewards of Gondor have always been competent and Denethor, Boromir's father is not an exception. His father Ecthelion with the help of Aragorn who disguised himself as Thorongir was able to ensure Gondorian naval supremacy by defeating the corsair fleets of Umbar, one of the so called Numenorian Havens that was once under Gondor but broke away during the kinstrife when a branch of the royal family of Gondor under Castamir the Usurper seized the throne of Gondor and ruled for 10 years but died in battle against the true king Elcadar who was half Numenorian ( his mother was a normal human). Casimir's successors being in control of the Royal fleet escaped and founded Umbar as a separate realm from Gondor. This was the point where the line of kings started diminishing as they were no longer long lived as their ancestors and with the fall of the Northern Realm of Arnor the rule of Gondor fell to the Stewards. Denethor is theorized to have fallen under the influence of Sauron like Saruman as Minas Tirith is also home to one of the Palantiri a similar orb as the one Saruman had. The line of Isildur who were then kings of Arnor at some point claimed the throne by virtue of marriage and lineage but were rejected. Arvedui the last king of Arnor and Arthedain almost ascended the throne but he was beset by war in the North against the Witch king of Angmar who destroyed the Northern Realm and Arvedui died in the defence of his realm. His son went on to be the first Chieftain of the Dunedain and his line descends up until Aragorn. Fun Fact: the city that the Witch is seen preparing for battle was once a city of Gondor and the seat of Isildur when he reigned as joint king of Gondor alongside his brother Anarion during the reign of their father Elendil. It was called Minas Ithil now it is Minas Morgul the Witch king's lair. Anarion died during the War of the Last Alliance alongside his father and Isildur made Anarion's son Meneldil king of Gondor as he went on to rule the Northern Realm of Arnor as High king.

8:12 See? If they had killed Grima, as many viewers have wanted, back when they banished him from Rohan, then who would have stabbed Saruman? "Do not be too eager to deal out Death and Judgement, for even the very wise cannot see all ends." - Gandalf. Grima still had a part to play in this. If he had died, Saruman would have holed up in his tower.

This whole movie was set in New Zealand and there is a Hobbiton set that you can go and learn about everything, The set has been preserved and you can walk around it just like the movie. Most of the Hobbit homes are just a facade but recently a Hobbit Home has been refurbished so that you can go in and look around. It is really worth going to New Zealand just for that, amongst many other things. You learn some amazing things and understand why movies, these in particular cost so much to make. Also, you two must watch The Hobbit as this gives a great background on how Bilbo comes across the ring and the differences between the Riverton Elves and the other Elves, it is really worth seeing to get a better understanding of the whole series.

On Getting to know & feeling a connection with each charater: Many people when they first start watching these are almost paranoid that they wont learn all the names, some reactors take notes & constantly write stuff down all because of what theyve heard about there being so many charaters & names...but, in the the end, it draws u in & is so immersive in such a special way that you almost feel like youre living the movies, so, its like in real life if u get a new job u dont stress out about learning everyone's name & memorizing them all, it just happens naturally, u learn them...oddly, in these films, it works the same way, its just by some immersive osmosis eventually u just dont know them, but ur invested in all of them, & connected to them.

38:45 They're both right. Men have greater physical strength and stamina and can generally still function when surrounded by the horrors of war. Women have heart and grit and many can think clearly when under that kind of pressure, but men can't stand seeing their female counterparts dead on the battlefield. It shuts them down. It's hard seeing their brothers dead around them, but seeing female soldiers dead around them takes the ability to battle from them.

One note that I didn't see here. Christopher Lee (who played Saruman) corrected Peter Jackson about the noise he would make when he is stabbed in the back. Peter Jackson wanted him to yell and Peter corrected him by asking, "Do you have any idea what sound a person makes when they're stabbed in the back? Because I do." Turns out Christopher spent some time in WW2 doing clandestine work and had some relevant, first-hand knowledge. Here's a video clip where he and Peter Jackson discuss it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5TQARRckm6U.htmlsi=-5i5B0YspH3FsMzs

The text of LOTR only identifies Deagol as Sméagol’s friend. But they’re from such a small isolated hobbit community that no doubt they’re related, and I think Tolkien said as much in some letter or somewhere. So the fandom tends to call them cousins. I’m not one to insist on the extended versions, but admittedly the theatrical release of ROTK has one big flaw - there is no ending for Saruman, he’s not even seen. Gandalf just casually mentions that Saruman has lost his power and they don’t need to worry about him any more. (Meanwhile the book has an entirely different fate for Saruman near the very end of the story.)

Smeagol and Deagol were cousins. In the first movie they said the ring extended Gollum's lifespan and he had it for about 500 years. One of the craziest things to me about the extended vs the theatrical versions is that when they got to Isengard the entire conversation with Saruman is cut from the theatrical version. They show up, reunite with the hobbits, talk to Treebeard, find the palantir (the stone ball) in the water, and leave. Only the extended version has Saruman in it at all and has his death. Also about that scene, Peter Jackson was trying to direct Christopher Lee how he should let out some kind of cry when he gets stabbed and Christopher Lee looked at him and said something to the effect of "Have you heard what a man sounds like when he gets stabbed in the back? I have." (Chistopher Lee was an intelligence officer for the RAF back in World War 2). Fun fact: he was the only member of the original cast to have met Tolkien himself. Legolas shot Grima to try and stop him from killing Saruman because they were getting useful information from him until Grima killed him. Denethor actually had another palantir and had been using it which is how he got some of his information, probably like the existence of Aragorn (when he mentions the "eyes of the white tower" this is most likely what he is referring to), and Sauron had tried to corrupt him through it like he had Saruman but he wasn't actually able to do so. Since he couldn't he instead plagued Denenthor with visions of the fall of Gondor to send him into despair and all of this was making him go a bit crazy and paranoid. Billy Boyd (Pippin) really wanted to sing something significant during the final movie so he looked through some of the poetry and songs that Tolkien wrote in Lord of the Rings and took one which he slightly altered the text of to better fit the tone of the movie. He came up with a melody and went to Peter Jackson to ask about it. Without even hearing a sample performance Peter Jackson agreed. They filmed that whole scene in a single take because they knew they could not have done it any better. Eomer might sound a bit sexist with how he talks about war but to be fair we don't really see female soldiers in these armies, and he has been a soldier for a long time and a lot of what he says is something that can happen to new soldiers, he has probably seen it happen. They aren't truly prepared for what can happen in war. War is not a pleasant experience. He might even suspect her desire to go to war and is trying to explain to her why war isn't something you should want to participate in and wants to keep her safe from it.

For those of you who like to speculate about the paranormal and alternative history, I have a theory that Tolkien may actually have been tapping into our ancient past. The story of the fall of the island Kingdom of Numenor and the slow rebuilding of a kingdom ruled by men in Middle Earth is a tale about the destruction of Atlantis and how civilization was able to slowly recover in Europe. It is now theorized that the epic flood myth told in so many cultures around the world, is a memory of a comet impact that set off the geological time period known as the Younger Drays and could have destroyed an early, prehistoric Island nation in the Caribbean that we now call Atlantis. The myth of Atlantis is that they achieved great power by learning to access and harness, what we would refer to as, the spirit realm. An area of reality just outside the accepted laws of physics. Where physical reality can be molded and altered using a slightly different set of physical laws. To our eyes today this would look like magical wizardry. The knowledge to do this was not widespread but closely guarded by an elite group of ruler priests. This level of power allowed them to construct the megaliths of old. Those megaliths were just one part of their civilization but it's the only thing of theirs that still exists in our world today. Unfortunately their power corrupted them fully. The leaders became dark minded and consumed with thoughts of violence and cruelty. The blood/death cult was born. Their civilization fell into chaos and violence until it was destroyed by a cometary impact. We see tiny remnants of Atlantis' cruelty among the ancient Mesoamericans and their human sacrifice rituals and constant wars of conquest. Those are the remnants of Atlantis's violent past. Today, humanity is on a path of redemption, just like in the Lord of the Rings, Atlantis will rise again and it will cast off it's dark past and truly transform itself into the world of light it was meant to be. Welcome to the Fourth Age.

In the movies there wasn't enough time to tell you the story of Denethor (Boromir's father), but in the books, you get to know that he used to be a super noble and good leader. But he had one of the Palantir (one liek the orb Saruman had), and in his attempts to see the enemy's mvoements to protect his kingdom, Sauron started to corrupt him, slowly, as Denethor had great will, but with time it affected him. Then his wife died, which Sauron also used to bring him even further down. Then Boromir. So the Denethor you see is just a husk of a man. But before that he was an incredible man, respected by his people.
