I would like to see a reactions to three horror films, "The Wailing". "Audition" the uncut version (1999), and The Witch. If you want to do a classic comedy, you should check out "Airplane" and "Groundhog Day". There are many good thrillers you can watch such as "The Hunt For Red October", "Seven", "The Usual Suspects".

"HOW!? did they do that, in 1982?" The answer to that is, you find a brilliant visual effects artist, get them interested in the project, then have a meeting, show them the storybaords, and ask "Ever seen anything like that before?" "No" "See a way it could be done?" "No" "Ok. Have it ready by Friday."

Another take on this: They should have tried to communicate with it, because it must have been scared out of its mind, trying to survive. It saw what they did to it whenever it revealed itself, and it was just trying to survive. When it crashed who do you think shot first out of the first team that found the space-ship? Now it was just trying to make the space-ship work again so it could get away from these killers. When it was in the dog, it didn't hurt any of them because they saved it, but it needed sustenance so it was devouring the other dogs. Then they came in and burned it, so it felt it needed to protect itself at any cost to repair the space ship so it could leave. On another take, this was a parasite that had inhabited the occupants of the space-ship which caused them to crash, and it is nothing but a mindless parasite.

There are two ways fans have thought of how Childs could be a thing at the end. 1: You can’t see his breath in the cold like Macready. This has some fans thinking he’s been assimilated but not fully formed on the inside, including his lungs, so he isn’t breathing. I’ve looked at it closely and swear I can kind of see his breath. I think it was just the lighting and the angle, though that could’ve been intentional to suggest the idea. 2: Some argue Macready wouldn’t have a bottle of alcohol for drinking because they used everything to make molotov cocktails. Him handing the bottle to Childs is to see if he has any reaction to drinking something that shouldn’t be drunk. Macready’s chuckle after seeing no negative reaction has been interpreted as him realizing Childs is a thing. I’d argue that Macready throughout the whole movie has just wanted to get drunk and go to sleep. I think it’s believable he would’ve saved some for himself as a last drink. I’m not saying anyone who thinks Childs is infected is wrong. We really can’t know for sure. It was made to be ambiguous.
@Shamelesscritique1

None of those theories account for the things intelligence...it doesn't just take on the shallow outwards physical appearance but the memories, knowledge and personality of it's victims...I mean how else could it speak english for example never mind mimic so perfectly, it's not stupid enough to drink gasoline lol Also there's nothing in the film to suggest the thing doesn't need to breath...it can rapidly mutate and transform it's body sure but it's still susceptible to extreme heat and cold temperatures and probably requires some limited amounts of oxygen etc as it's still an organic life form. If anything mcready is most likely the thing at the end and is smiling because it infected childs with the bottle it just drank from and passed to him...which he drank...remember when the guy said they should prepare their own food from sealed cans to make sure it wasn't contaminated?...
@marcuszaja6589

The not-breathing-theory never made much sense to me. Childs was talking. You need to have air in your lungs to talk and in order to talk again you have to breath in again.

The black guy Childs is the 'Thing' at the end. Macready gave him the Molotov cocktail filled with gasoline to drink. If he was human he would if spit it out. The thing does not know what liquor taste like so it pretended. That's why macready laughed.

I'll never understand why some people refer to this movie as having a "nihilistic" tone. If anything, it's the complete opposite. It's about the indomitable human spirit! Not just the will to survive, but the will to triumph! Or should I say - "the will to POWER!" In this context, "power" means "victory for humanity." And yes, I'm using Nietzschean nomenclature because "The Neetch" didn't care too much for nihilism. 7:07 That flower-like appendage is made out of dog tongues and dog teeth. 10:51 Notice how he rewinds and tapes over part of what he said. He did that because he didn't want the rescue team to become demoralized in the same way. It illustrates that he plays "the long game" like a savvy strategist. He also doesn't take too kindly to cheatin'. His contingency plan against that tends to involve the utter destruction of his adversary. 13:00 "It's all in the reflexes." ~Jack Burton 13:43 Nope. Not murder. It was D-FENS of both self and team. D-FENS of self because Clark became an assailant. D-FENS of team because Clark was unstable. 13:45 Thank you! I hate it when people end up getting persecuted for self D-FENS! It's the ultimate antithesis of logic! 14:35 "Eat this!" ~Corporal Dwayne Hicks 15:01 The way he delivers that line is just perfect. The frustration mixed with understanding. The energy is REAL! 16:34 MacReady is filled with Determination! 100 percent! At MAXIMUM POWER!

You are right in what you say, I think people may see it as nihilism in that despite all their efforts to stop it the Thing is likely to get out into the world anyway - because it can survive being frozen and must be 100% eliminated in order to be killed. The is an answer in the last few moments of the film to who was the thing in the end. MacReady gives Childs the bottle of whiskey, Childs takes a drink and MacReady then laughs to himself. MacReady just tested Childs, he just drank gasoline from a Molotov Cocktail. The thing pretends to be human, but doesn’t know the difference in taste between gas and booze. idk if anyone said this yet but the last two guys, they were sure one of them was the monster, they just werent sure who. when it gets cold, it should die but they were both tired to fight. one of them was the thing and they both had to die to kill it

Rob Bottin was the guy in charge of the special effects on The Thing. He was only 23 when he did this. Quite impressive!

Bottin looks and sounds EXACTLY like my family doctor. Funny thing is, Bottin is no doubt a better doctor. XD

Loved your reaction video of The Thing. It's one of my favourite movies and probably my favourite John Carpenter movie. You seemed to get really involved with the film...who's a Thing, who's not? The practical fx are probably the pinnacle of their era, can't think of any better to be honest. A classic Sci-Fi/Horror that stands the test of time. Great reaction video, really enjoyed it. Liked and subscribed for more fun 👍

All John Carpenter movies must be watched! He is also the master of minimalist creepy theme music! U must watch assault on precinct 13 (the original), escape from New York, escape from LA, Starman, Big Trouble in little CHINA, to start. The dog trainer should have won an Oscar. The makeup and special effects were done by a 21 year old college student and he should have won an Oscar! Pro tip, Kurt Russell bin many of his movies, I hope he kept the hat From this one and carpenter is still thinking of a sequel!😮😮

My dog Sadie reacted to that whole dog transformation scene. Sadly, she passed away two years ago.

You can figure out who's a Thing :) the trick is, according to Carpenter, they added eyeshine post shooting to humans ... Things dont have it :)

2:49: Norwegian dialogue means: "It's not a dog, it's some sort of thing! It's imitating a dog, it isn't real! GET AWAY, YOU IDIOTS!" Yeah, us Norwegians have the whole plot spoiled for us almost at the beginning ...

Another one bites the dust. You have died, you failed the Thing challenge, never trust the dog. Oh oh oh, maybe there is hope for you yet! Hooray for you! I agree and have always said it was Self defense. Clark tried to stab him in the back with a scalpel for crying out loud!

I recommend you to see Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) - an amazing sci-fi/horror film. I put it on the same level with The Thing and Alien

Yes Dear for 1981/82 it wasn’t Shitty Production Values and it Looks a little dated now but that was Real Mechanical Puppetry and SFX so for the Time it was Ahead of its Time and State of the Art!
