Personally, when they say "you haven't got a TV licence" I'd be inclined to say "I haven't got a fishing licence or a firearms licence either, but I don't get people coming to my door to sell me those".

Personally I keep them talking as long as possible so they cant spend that time harrassing someone less able to cope with it. 48 minutes is my record so far.

The writing is on the wall for the BBC but the paint has yet to dry.

I still love the story about the guy who had a Goon come to his door, The Goon says "You don't have a license at this address sir" The guy replies, "I don't watch TV". The Goon then points to the guys roof and says, "but you have an ariel there sir", the guy replies, "I've got milk in my fridge but it doesn't mean I'm keeping a fking cow!"

Its sickened me to the stomach when the guy read out the rights to the home owner. Its a sheer intimidation tactic. If he said that to a poor frightened old lady she would have a heart attack. Im a fairly tolerant individual, but a bully is one thing I won't accept!!

The longer you talk them round in circles, the less time they'll have to intimidate the old lady next door. I've been locked down for what seems like forever, and I look forward to hawkers and cold callers because that's the longest conversation I might have in a week. I love keeping them on my doorstep and telling them all about my aches & pains. Especially since I don't have any. PHUKM.

Apparently my " property is now under investigation " . Amusing really as my property is an inanimate object with no discernible interest in watching television , live or otherwise .

Definitely interesting videos, If one calls at my house it will be a quick "Hello - Goodbye" door shut.

For people who are confident enough to speak to the TV licencing without giving up any useful info I think its good to keep them at the door, wasting their time and causing as much disruption/frustration to the licencing agent as possible. The longer they are getting their ears pulled at that door the less time they have at a more susceptible house. Obviously those that aren't as confident should shut the door or just dont open it in the first place.

If everyone just closed the door when these people come, they basically no longer have a job. They probably scrape by at the moment with the people that trip themselves up.

Wouldn't it just be easier for the BBC to pay its own way. It's actually a shame for other live TV channels that they loose customers because one network has a stranglehold over everything.

The first question a goon usually asks is "are you the occupier of the house" it's not until you confirm that you are will they tell you they are from TV tax. last time I just closed the door when I seen his little cash machine and his black handbag under his arm they all carry with them. Next time they knock and ask if I'm the occupier I'm going to say no, I'm the next door neighbour I just nip around to answer the door for them then close the door lol

I slapped tv licencing with a WOIRA about ten years ago and havnt had any letters or knocks at the door since, they did send a tv detector van to sit outside my house about a week after i did that but when i went out to confront the driver he wound up his window and left the estate very quickly much to my amusement.

Can you do a video showing the decrease in TV licenses over the past X number of years? If the data isn't available perhaps submit a freedom of information request to the BBC?

I can see how some will be tempted to goad a Crapita employee and some of them probably deserve to be goaded. Most, however, are simply employed in a rotten job and trying to make a living. Saying "no thanks" and shutting the door is the best way to deal with them. Thanks for the video; the "Goon of Goons" one was a new one on me.

I would ask the TV license inspector a question. The question is , have you got business insurance for your car. I bet most of them don’t have it. That’s a far worse crime than having no TV license.

Just call the number on the TV licence letter and tell them you no longer need a licence. Then if an inspector turns up, just say 'no thanks' and close the door.

Not paid for 15 years now (approximately £2000 saved!). Like you say John, it can be intimidating if dialogue ensues. Shut that door folks immediately ! Job done. If you happen to be watching telly without a license, just make sure they can’t see it through the window.

I think most people just carry on talking to them as they want to wind them up...and when they've left the property they go back into the house and carry on watching live TV!

Unfortunately it is so tempting to open up on these hateful people, but as chilly tells us, shut the door. I made my declaration have have my reference number but still expect a visit from these thuggish tax collectors, I do not watch live tv, its YT or Netflix or prime. NEVER EVER the bbc claptrap or any other live broadcast !

I've got a simple solution for dealing with licence goons and that is to get a doorbell camera - like ring or similar - and connect to your wifi. Then these individuals have no choice to be filmed and can't intimidate very well from talking to someone behind a closed door. It'll be cool to see more user uploaded video reviews soon.

Alright team. So! After ingnoring all the letters, got a new one yesterday sounding like we are going back to square one. Do not engage! That's my experience and I encourage everyone to do the same

This is one of the most bizarre practices I’ve ever seen. A TV license?!? Seriously?

It's actually painful listening to these people try and sound intelligent talking about implied rights of access and acts of parliament not being law. They would be in for the shock of their lives if they ever tried to argue it in a court room. An intelligent person would just accept that this organization are never going to stop sending people as they feel they are doing a 'public service' making sure everyone is paying their TV license. Listen to ChilliJon and just shut the door in their face asap. Saves your time and wastes theirs, perfect.

I live in one of the rougher areas in my town and these goons stopped coming here years ago nobody pays the license fee here and parents encouraged all the local kids to move them on after about a year they stopped coming all together.

If the inspectors are nice about it / accept what you say and walk off, I don't have a problem. When they start making demands, they deserve all the aggro they get. Personally I will just say "sorry I don't watch TV" and close the door on them.

From time to time I watch these TV Licence Inspector interaction videos on RU-vid, also interactions with police officers and other officials by "First Amendment Auditors" and subjects of traffic stops. There seems to be a great desire in human nature to win arguments, but it's so much simpler (and more effective) to say nothing.

I agree they shouldn't be a TV licence in this day and age I think we are going about things the wrong way the argument should be just get rid of the BBC and if they are elements create content out of it, it can be completely commercial as long as the BBC exists there will always be after getting money from the public.

Thanks to you Jon I stopped paying for something i didnt need. I evaluated how much TV I watched in a week....sometimes it never even went on. I was paying for something i didnt use. It took your vids to open my eyes. I dont have a sneeky look either out of principle.....TV is full of doom and gloom anyway. Stuff the TV licence and BBC. I've been getting letters for about 5 years now saying I'm under investigation and an inspector will pay me a visit. Wish they would hurry the fck up already.

Excellent. I am spreading the word and have recommended your channel. Most people still believe these goons have some sort of official status and power. They quote instances of people being thrown into prison and, of course, they're frightened witless of the dreaded TV licensing vans. I attempt to remonstrate, and truth to tell, I've yet to meet someone who's in favour of the TV licence. They are often shocked when they find out they have to have a license to watch ANY live broadcast, not just the vile BBC.

I'd talk to them, I don't even use the TV, there's absolutely no evidence they can get. I'll just waste their time as long as they're willing to waste it so they aren't harassing anyone else, get myself a couple laughs out of it too.

"Why are they talking to them?" It's fun for some people and they are confident they can handle it. I wouldn't, I'm a busy man I've got RU-vid to watch and stuff.

a lot of this was about not what to do when you get a knock ,your comments did highlight this ! personally i think the less you say the better if you ring them to cancel as i did they already know your reasons , i would ask who they are, which is perfectly normal with a stranger on your property , say i don't need a TV licence don't engage them no matter what they are saying , finish with thank you followed by closing your door , no stress job done .

I agree with the advice of answer the door, ask who the person is, when they say TV Licensing simply say “no thank you” and close the door. Nice and polite. Where I think some people try to enter a conversation and be more objectionable, is because this visit will have been preceded by a large number of deliberately threatening letters. And of course it makes for good RU-vid. The one to review is those few Search Warrants. Where the choice of the person in the home is taken away. Here there needs to be a more considered plan of action. 1. If they turn up with a search warrant, normally accompanied by the police, let them in immediately. 2. Start video recording. Say nothing 3. If they ask your name, ask specifically “Am I obliged to answer your questions?” “Am I under arrest?” Are you going to read me my rights?” 4. Usually now they will read you your rights. From now on state “I have the right to remain silent”. 5. If the police intervene, ask them politely not to get involved, state to them that they are only in attendance to prevent a breach of the peace. Advise them not to assist TVL in any way, and that you are recording the proceedings. 6. Identify where the TV is and show them the TV remote controls. 7. If they start to examine computer equipment, laptops, tablets etc state “Under the Communications Act 2003, amended in 2004, computers are not considered TV equipment and you do not have the right to inspect computers, please desist from touching these things”. If they continue, state, “I believe you are acting outside the remit of your search warrant, stop now or I will bring about legal proceedings against you” 8. They may imply that not giving them your name or signing their form you are obstructing. In which case state “As you have cautioned me and I have the right to say nothing, that in order to proceed with your questions I require for you to appoint me a solicitor, as I am uncomfortable with not now knowing my legal rights, as either I have the right to remain silent or I don’t” If the police start to get involved repeat point 5 above, nice and politely. 9. If they start to turn on the TV, remind them that this address does not have a TV licence, so if they enable a live TV picture to appear, they are causing an offence to be committed. It is not an offence to have equipment capable of watching live TV only the act of watching it or BBC iPlayer requires a licence. 10. Don’t ask them to leave, simply invoke your rights, control the police (who often don’t understand the law and misinterpret their role), and allow the search warrant visit to naturally end. Don’t sign paperwork, don’t threaten and remain calm. Do not swear or raise your voice, that is what they want to happen, so the police can bring about obstruction charges. In the end, most convictions for watching TV without a licence are because the occupant admitted the offence or signed the TVL form. Without those things, they have no case to bring. A video record of the search warrant is vital, it gives TVL warning that misconduct won’t be tolerated. The police are just bystanders in these scenarios. If you don’t admit to watching TV without a licence, they would have to produce evidence that you did, or commit perjury by saying they saw you watch live TV. Thankfully search warrants are very rare, almost impossible in Scotland, and the BBC really don’t want to use them cause of the bad publicity. But if one happens, please stay quiet and remain calm.

Just put up a notice outside your door that reads "No soliciting, religious groups or TV Licence Inspectors. If you want to ring the bell and speak to me, I charge £100 per minute. If you agree to these terms then please proceed and ring the bell"

The removal of the implied right of access relates to the fact that people are generally allowed to come onto your property and knock on your door. If you remove that right, the TV licensing goon is now automatically a trespasser. That said, the moment you inform them of that, they need to leave straight away, so I don't know why they have hung around here.

Hi Jon, You have convinced me that this is the right thing to do in my circumstances. I have cancelled my licence from August 2021. As you read letters from supporters, please could you show your supporters the correct way to fill in the BBC letter with your details blanked as you have done previously with letters you have used. I am a big Supporter of yours and wish too do this legally with no come backs. Many Thanks Dave

removing applied right's of access has actually been used to obtain warrants so i wouldn't recommend anyone doing it

I had my first visit yesterday, I had my door ajar with a shoe, exspecting a delivery, common law book.😂 I rushed to door exspecting my delivery man, there was a man stood away from my door he said my name ,I said who are You, I heard TV, so I new, I just said no Thank You and Shut The Door. I did see him scribble something down. That's it. 🤗💯✅ Thank You for the advice couldn't have done it without it. I do have a notice in my window that I do not buy from Door to Door sales men. I do not the telly by the way, I keep for my grandchild who uses it as a monitor for his games only. He's 14 he never watches the telly.

I have to point out that anyone acting on behalf of an enforcement agency (e.g DVLA, TV, local authority etc.) MUST caution you (caution same one as the police use) if they believe you may have committed a criminal offence. It is just a warning that whatever you say may (aka WILL) be used against you. This is exactly why you should say nothing.

I haven't watched Live TV since 20 years - I also haven't ever paid TV licensing. I am getting letters - I never read them. They go into the bin. There countries, like Austria, were if you have an Internet connection you need to pay TV license because YOU COULD watch Live TV over the internet - I still don't get it that the state managed to allow that. Maybe they government should pay child support to every women too, because they could get a child.

Removing their implied rights of access is not to stop them entering your house it is to stop them passing the threshold of your property.. I've had two of them arrested for trespass for being on my property after having their implied rights removed

I don't go fishing so I don't buy a fishing licence, I don't own a gun so I don't buy a gun licence so why do these goons expect me to buy a tv licence when I don't watch live tv?

The best thing is these videos is that it degrades the job of being a tv license inspector. Being a postie over the past few weeks there has been a MASSIVE increase in the new red envelopes especially with the gradual relaxation of lockdown rules
