They do stupid shit in prisons. They also give them access to weights to workout. I understand that they are entitled to exercise, but why on earth would you give violent men access to free weights? Get those weights out of there and give them some treadmills.
He just wanted to be more theatrical and give everyone else a message, but he could have easily fucked that guy up with his bare hands, being a weapon himself.
In real life, they wouldn’t have hot oil like that on the line, for that specific reason. Also, there wouldn’t have been any glass to break. It would be a strong plastic with some elasticity to absorb the blow.
Back in the 50s our prisons did have fried foods though and no plexiglass. It's all multiversal theory here. Think about it; maybe in this universe something like this has never happened before thus never needed to be altered for safety concerns? In another multiverse 9/11 never happened and guns and knives are still acceptable to carry on planes? So how about you just stfu and just enjoy the movie bud. 🤔🤦♂️
That was good acting... i worked in an italian restaurant when i was a teen as a dish washer. Part of my duty was to run the fryer for chicken tenders, fries ect. One day my coworker-who was also a dishwasher was walking by talking to me. As he walked between me and the fryer he slipped on a raw peice of calamari on the ground. As his feet came out from under him his reflex was to put his arm out behind him to break his fall. But it instead went into the frialator. Ill never the screams. They were exactly like that as he slowly fell to his knees holding his arm out in front of him at eye level. I dont know if you've ever seen a raw steak covered in wet toilet paper.. but.... yeah ☹️
What ended up happening with him? I've always wondered how oil burns recover. I have a little dime shaped crater in my right wrist from when I was frying up some meat 6 months ago. Hope it heals.

Not sure that would have really worked, as the oil would just run out the bottom and sides as soon as he picked it up out of the vat and when he swung it. At 0:35 you can see the bottom holes are not blocked. May have gotten a little bit on the guy, but not the full dump as depicted. Oh well, just a movie and pretty badass nevertheless.

@@MS-dv4st It was self defense, at least in some way. Had he left the guy alone after he disarmed him, he would have had to await yet attacks from others, probably even from behind. That big black guy wasn't knocked out, he had just knocked him to the ground. By throwing boiling oil onto the black guy's head Rohrschach showed everyone present that he meant business and that he wasn't going to be an easy victim. You may call it deterrence by making an example of one guy or you may even call it terror. I regard it as self defense, cause the other guys in the mess hall would have stabbed him or beaten him up very badly, hadn't he responded swiftly and ruthlessly. By his merciless response, he truly put the fear of God in everyone's heart, at least for long enough to be safe from spontaneous attacks.
@@EricMustardmanwhen I see his face, his anger, to me it just seems like he did it to show he meant business, not necessarily to deter the other from attacking him. But well never know 🤷♂️
@@MS-dv4st You're right, we'll never know. And in the end, he paid the price for his relentless and uncompromising way of life. He lived his life by the belief that even in the face of Armageddon, compromises were morally wrong and that death was better than deviating from his principles by even as little as a hair's breadth. He finally became a victim of his own inflexibility and stubbornness.
