Using a K&D mainspring winder - hand-winding & automatic / slipping bridle mainsprings.
PSA: This video contains sub-optimal levels of editing, namely, none. No script, no planning, no real editing, nothing. Same for the sound - I forgot my microphone so if you can hear *anything* count that as a win. Even if that "anything" is tuneless humming. I did pump up the volume though. YMMV if you choose to blow part of your life on this. No Refunds. Enjoy!

This video gave me another chance of using vintage K&D winder. Two things I've learned from your video - that I can regulate the width of the compartment to adapt different mainspring widths and also how to keep the bridle of the spring from jumping out of the opening. These tricks brought me back to the usage of K&D for Seiko springs. Great video, thanks a lot!

Hey I'm interested in one of these after watching you work it. I see on ebay there is one like yours. I'm hesitant though because the one on ebay says it has a size. So I'm not sure if they make several different ones for different size barrels? The one on ebay says it's (for) or is the size 123B 4-6mm. Any thoughts? Does yours have a size written on it? I'm starting this as a new hobby so don't want to spend several hundreds of dollars on a whole set. My first watch I'm working on is a Seiko DX 6106-6007 from the 70's

They came in a set, from small to large.

@SpencerKleinVintageWatch I really need to know by millimeters on the sizes so I can know what size barrels will fit. Small to large doesn't help for fitting.

I like how you do this. I'm just beginning and planning to buy a mainspring winder. It seems that yours is adjustable. Apparently you have a set of K&D winders, but you're using one primarily. What size are you using, if I may ask?

He may have used the 8-11mm, no.123A for his seiko mainspring.

These winders have already cost me more springs then I want. In almost all cases the spring just shot thru the next open and and ripped the bridel straight off.

It takes time to build up the feel / touch of it. You always have to stay on your toes when doing a mainspring regardless of the tool you're using. I've never ripped a bridle off though.

Excellent vid. It seems the K&D winder is adjustable, yes? So I wonder why so many other watch videos talk about the options of buying a Bergeon set or a chinese set of winders. How come an adjustable one is not mentioned, at least not that I have seen so far? Do you know? Thanks.

I have no idea, honestly. I got this set of K&D winders from the old master watchsmith in town, when he was retiring. Never thought much about them being adjustable or not. It's a nice feature!
