Is it possible this has something to do with the other person who has the name Orchid Whisperer? Was there maybe an intellectual property issue with the use of the name? I have no idea, it just crossed my mind a short while ago. I, too, hope everything is okay.

Hello Ms. Orchid Whisperer. Just wanted to let you know that I watch your videos and you have inspired me to grow more orchids by following your advices in that soothing voice. I do my own research but I also like watching RU-vidrs for their experiments about orchids. I just wanted to remind you to keep doing what you're doing. There's many ways to get one thing done. There's many ways to get to one place. No matter if our paths get twisted or blocked what's important is to keep going and not give up. Dont let anyone get in your path, let alone bring you down!!! Come back! We all miss you. Even me, someone who never really comments is begging for more of Ms. Orchid Whisperer💛

I agree Amy, about 1-2 years for me I’ve found depending on the Phal. My species phals didn’t like it at all, so I use fresh live spaghnum moss from a supplier for reptile aquariums for them and a lot of my orchids now including mounts, and they absolutely love it. I enjoyed water culture and semi water culture, and still use it for some new plants until they tell me they need a little different media. I think I did things the other way round because after failed attempts at growing orchids I found your water culture channel, and had initially great success with it, and that taught me to see signs of trouble and rectify it one way or another! Happy growing Amy👍😊

This is so interesting and I appreciate your candor. As you have said, use the method that and works best for you in your environment. I have experimented but came to the conclusion that moss and orchiata work best for me. I am experimenting with a couple of cattleyas in lava rock but that requires extra watering so i wouldn’t want to switch all of them in it.

At one time, I had the majority of my Phalenopsis orchids growing in WC but now I only have one growing in that method. While it has developed a spike, one of the lower leaves has turned yellow and it getting ready to drop off. I haven't had that happen to any of the phals that I have growing in moss or bark. In my situation, WC worked great during the summer. But, I had problems with root rot during the wintertime. You really have to keep a close eye on the roots if you plan to use this method. If you are a beginner, I really think that NZ Sphagnum moss is the best media to use with Phalenopsis orchids. The moss lessens the chance of transplant shock and the care is much less time consuming!
@OrchidWhisperer
@OrchidWhisperer 5 лет назад
Thanks for sharing this, Caro! One of the main problems I've found with water culture is the bottom leaves turning yellow on the plant. When the orchid doesn't have many leaves, it declines. And I hear a lot about roots rotting in WC in the wintertime...that sounds familiar as well. Great perspective and I appreciate you sharing your experience! Happy growing!:)

Now that your talking about this, i have lost quite a few leaves so far this season from my wc orchids; however, new leaves are in the making. i had wonderful blooms and roots, but few leaves, as you've said. On the other hand, i replanted quite a few orchids, that were not doing so well, in NZ moss last year. They are doing amazingly well! So, are you still using the same Spring recipe for the NZ moss orchids? Thank you.

Hi Gregory and thanks so much for your awesome comment! I think your Phals will do really well in this window with sheer curtains. I am totally addicted to your videos, and I too live in Tennessee, near Knoxville. I started watching your videos when you were growing in water culture, and, like you I found that my Phals don’t often like water culture, so I’m hoping to save the ones that look puny. Is there a particular “rescue method” that you use for orchids whose roots are very scant? I have one that I had hoped water culture would save, but all the new roots that came out pointed upwards like aerial roots, instead of down towards the water. It’s leaves are not dehydrated, but they are kind of thin. I hate to give up on it. Any suggestions?
