If you had asked, I could have told you. Use the Racor filter. I have this same filter on 3 boats, they work well. Lube the bowl o-ring with oil, not gas. The drain, as well. On the tanks, loosen the cap while underway and snug it down, when not running.

If you fit a 30cm bit of fuel hose to the drain barb you can avoid the issue of not much room to fit the drain cup.

Parker makes the real good thing. I use one of their fuel polishers to fix diesel fuel and it does the job right. Saves hundreds of gallons of fuel.
@KnightsWithoutATable
@KnightsWithoutATable 2 года назад
The solution to the gas tank over pressurizing from the heat is vent lint kept under vacuum be a small motor and a sensor leading to an activated charcoal filter at the end. That is what automotive systems run. It allows the pressure to release and keeps the hydrocarbons from evaporating, which isn't just about it damaging the environment. The lighter hydrocarbons in the witch's brew that is gasoline leave first when heated, so the mix of the gas changes, which will alter the properties of the fuel and can even make it become unusable. EFI engines adapt to changes in the fuel on the fly, so you probably won't notice it, but it can cause other problems, like varnish buildups and carbon deposits happening faster than if you were using fresh fuel every time.

Hello everything is fine? I really like your channel and have been following your journey for a long time. I will tell you my experience with water in the fuel hope it helps. in my country the government determines 40% of alcohol in fuel I know that in the USA the amount is lower (still) and alcohol in fuel greatly increases the absorption of water that comes from the atmosphere. in my case I have a boat with a 600lt tank and the only way to solve this problem that I found was to keep the tank full whenever possible Reducing the amount of air inside the tank you reduce condensation and water absorption by the fuel always prefer use plastic tanks avoid aluminum or any other type of metal.
@spider0804
@spider0804 2 года назад
Generally the ethanol blend here is 10% of gasoline but this boat uses diesel and there is no ethanol (corn alcohol) in the diesel bought from stations here so it is not an issue. As a side note, gasoline tanks tend to have no air in them if there is an evaporation outlet as required by law here, the gas will evaporate and displace any air. If you lit a match into a half full car here there would not be an explosion because there is no oxygen to cause one. Mythbusters even tested it.

Doug, could you just add an inexpensive one way valve with like 10 psi of cracking pressure to the fuel tank? That way the pressure never builds to high and doesn't let in water.

there are easy to install cheap over pressure relieve valves even adjustable in variuos ranges just on the amazon. A 2 bar one should just be enough to vent overpressure realy easy. better as having the tankcap open all the time.

Feeding time for the algorithm. Good work Doug. Do you open the small valve on the lid when you are running or does it automatically open to prevent any vacuum in the tank? I don't use a motor so I thought I would ask. Have a good one.

For those who follow and are doing fuel line upgrades , I too have found disappointment in the oem standards regards to the fuel side of engines. Here we have a boating industry that I have seen use clamps and hoses on sub floor tanks that have no flaring for clamps to work under pressure and hoses just slide off over time or clamps that rust away. Some may find some fuel primer devices some what restrictive if they need gravity fed or very low vacuum requirements. Best to test bench these primers before having issues on the water. The hard plastic tanks need upgrading to have high point blow off valves installed for pressure discharge and better low point fuel pick up design to the tanks so no air gets sucked in when your trying to avoid hitting rocks in odd rough whether, you don't need a stalled engine at this point when your on your last tank 1/4. In filters fuel should travel to the base water trap first leaving water behind before traveling up through the filter element. Hope this paragraph/comment saves some lives.

I don't mean to be an internet trash talker here, (you seem like a great guy) but I just hate those old old school sight glass bowl O ring water separator filters....they were putting them on farm tractors over 50 years ago...and some engine companies are still putting them on welders. . . They're messy, hard to change in a tight spot and in my many years working in the field I have never seen or heard of anyone ever looking into that sight glass bowl for water. Yamaha and Sierra make an excellent very simple spin on water separator filter that takes a few minutes t change in any spot without ever having leak. Most of the boat/marine places in my area tear those factory sight glass bowl filters off their new boats and put on the Yamaha system.
@SVSeeker

Well, I check mine visually and it's easy to see if they need to be drained. So far the outboard has been fine, but I routinely drain the ones on the main engine supply. I also have a long history with tractors, so maybe it's the upbringing. : )

@kgmarcussen

You can drill your can and install a brewers airlock in the new vent hole. The expanding gasses from the tank will flow through liquid gasoline and potentially condense back before atmospheric venting. Im just an armchair quarterback on this one, so my idea may be a horrible suggestion.
@Total_Egal
@Total_Egal 2 года назад
the little boat got realy bumpy rides while in use, hitting waves, taking swells and breamwaters, dangling from the davids, hanging or floating leaning to one side, stored for days and weeks not in use. no a good environoment for a liquid filled valve depending on intakt fluid level to work.

GAS TOO HOT?: Why not try rigging one of those huge sun screens - the kind made for cars' front wind shields when you are parked. Drape it over your tank compartment. They are super inexpensive. It might help; how could it hurt? You might only be out ten bucks.

That only applies to an inboard engine. You can use these clear bowl filters below deck with all outboard engines....reason being, they don't want the clear bowl filters under deck where there is also an engine and heat. The clear bowl filters are allowed and fine under deck and in bilges of outboard engine boats.
