In this informative video, we will guide you through the process of installing a natural gas vent pipe for your water heater. Whether your water heater is located in a garage or a closet, we'll show you the correct steps to ensure proper venting, eliminating potential hazards and enhancing the safety of your home.
Throughout the video, we'll provide a side-by-side comparison of the before and after installation, highlighting the transformative effects of a correctly installed vent pipe. Additionally, we'll introduce you to two different reliable brands of water heater vent pipes, allowing you to choose the one that suits your needs best.
One crucial aspect we'll address is the installation of essential components such as the storm collar and roof vent cap. These play a vital role in safeguarding your home and preventing any potential issues that can arise from improper installation.
We'll delve into a common problem faced by many homeowners in Houston, TX, and the surrounding areas-the incorrect installation of water heater and furnace flue pipes. We'll shed light on the hazards these installations can pose and explain why it is crucial to address them promptly. From personal experiences, we have encountered numerous homes where the natural gas flue pipes for water heaters in attics, garages, and closets had to be replaced. If you take a drive around Houston, TX, you'll notice this issue prevalent in many homes, even though most homeowners remain unaware of the dangers associated with it. From the risk of fire to carbon monoxide poisoning and potential damage to the water heater, we'll explain the severity of these hazards.
To ensure a successful installation, we recommend using Amerivent brand water heater vent pipe parts. The list of essential components includes:
1 x 3" Vent Cap
1 x 3" Storm Collar
1 x 3" Vent Pipe Shield
The 3" vent pipe lengths are available in various sizes, accommodating different installation requirements. Choose from options such as 12", 24", 3', 5', 6', or 8' lengths, depending on your specific setup.
Join us in this step-by-step tutorial as we guide you through the proper installation of a natural gas vent pipe for your water heater. Enhance the safety of your home, eliminate potential hazards, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the importance of correct venting. Yes, b vent cl3arance is 1" to combustibles, thisninckudes the roof tar or silicone you use since its combustible. It also needs to extend 2 feet higher than any roof portion within 10 feet.. depending on where you live and local codes, the 2 over 10 rule is fairly standard.

Hi, my water heater is in the attic and there is a leak where the pipe meets the roof or the vent. Notice a stain on my ceiling now and insulation foam wet in attic. I don’t know who to call... roofer or plumber?

There's gotta be a better option to the escutcheon plate you put around the vent going through the ceiling drywall, at the end of your video here. I've got a big AC leak from the little crack around my vent pipe going through the ceiling. Someone should make a collar with an air tight/heat isolating silicone escutcheon that stops air coming from the attic.

@@theartofplumbing, please explain in a video why I can't used my old 3" B-vent, going 30 feet up out the top of the roof, and vent my power vent water heater 2" snorkeled to that. I don't see what the problem is whatsoever--so what if there's condensation, there's condensation with the normal gravity vent water heater that I have side by side. So I'm testing them both out in case one of the other goes out but I won't use them both at the same time-- unless you think there's some thing I don't know and that I can use a gravity and a power vent together but I haven't figured that part out yet quite yet.

Continuing my Q: Even though it's a code fail, have you a video on PowerVent water heater into type B, double wall Amerivent? Cat 1 venting rules not for PowerVent water heaters--not classified type 1, so they are type 4? I tried it yesterday and it worked fine. Won't there be just as much condensation as my gravity water heater--so what's the big deal? Why should I have to convert 3" Amerivent B to 2" PVC to run a PowerVent? The PowerVent water heater is just my backup to my gravity water heater and I don't think I will run them at the same time, because they are two different categories--or can I? PowerVent will blow out the pilot on the gravity heater? Have you seen anything like that before--where the power vent water heater actually snuffed out the pilot light on the gravity water heater if they are both vented together? Good video?
