So this was a call for water leaking from the ceiling, at first I couldn't find anything wrong but the problem eventually presented itself.

Been watching your vids for the last few days on and off, and enjoyed your professionalism and methodical working practice, I would love to know enough about this service sector to work in it it seems to be a bit of what's causing the issue, ok now lets fix it, my fav kind of working practice. I'm too old to be starting a new career at 60yrs old but if I had my time over I would enjoy your kinda work, a combination of practical and electro mechanical work which I've always enjoyed. Keep up the good work, nice to know there are some honest people out there. Thanks from the UK.

Funny enough with copper drains, I use the tar tape/cork tape for couplings. It works, and does not leak water at all. But for ceilings, I like those furnco jackets, work real nice. I actually had a similar problem at a CarMax, the unit went off on a safety, and I confirmed it to be the float switch. Had to blow out the drain with water, and it blew back into my face. So I did similar to what you did, except for that only unit. And what came out was gross, but I got it to work. I told the manager the main drain needs work and idk what happened afterwards. Didn't have the NTE to do much else. Great work tho! Great work!

If I were you, I wouldn't flush the A/C that way. That may get you in trouble. What I have done is reroute the drain pipe (if possible just for the sake of cleaning it) and hook it into an 1 1/2" pvc pipe to take the water outside. At the end you put it where it was. You don't have to glue the fittings (in case they are needed). Just put them together and they will do the trick. Make sure nobody trips on it though. I am also thinking that a flexible hose (bigger diameter) may work better though. I will check into that. Thank you for all your videos. They are helping me a lot.

Why are the drain lines going to a drain at ground level in the first place? Wouldn't it be sufficient to let them drain after the trap directly to the roof? The roof is waterresistent (hopefully) and I think a little more water wouldn't hurt over there. No drain line= no plugging up at this level.
@josephbarry2645
@josephbarry2645 4 года назад
Exactly
@stevewalker412
@stevewalker412 4 года назад
Multiple reasons firsts... its code ..its major bird control no free water for zee flying rats aka pigeons... dirt control dirt and debri will attract and pack up on roof with water on it . The water will make the flat roofs kind of swell up like your feet hands in the tub for a long time .. a routine maintenance would of eliminated all the drain issues as these get flushed after maintenance...as you sell maintenance programs for this issue and there done in off seasons..... snarf....
@RubenKelevra
@RubenKelevra 4 года назад
Well, the roof is for rainwater, the drain is for greasy water from the units. At least in my country, both have dedicated wastewater lines in the street and management at the end. You're not allowed to put anything else than rainwater in the rainwater system. Apart from that, you really don't want water leaks everywhere when it's freezing - you would end up with black ice on the roof.
@deineroehre
@deineroehre 4 года назад
Ah OK, I see. Thanks for the replys. Using the drain is indeed useful. It has just to be preventive maintenanced properly - like everything else in HVAC...

I've used a ShopVac Wet N' Dry to assist clearing plugged mains. They will suck the heck out of the pipes, sludge, rust, gunk, debris, everything goes into the vac rather than choke up the drains. You can attach it on either side, once the gunk partially releases it's grip, it'll start flowing and follow up with the water hose. Also seen CO2 cartridges and regulated nitrogen used, but I never dared since PVC drains are often used locally, and I wouldn't like to blow up a pipe full of gunk and slime in an occupied store 😂.

I like the way you take time to do the job right. I hated those 2 circuit Carriers. They would build up dirt on the coil between the filters. At the beginning of our Arizona monsoon season, the condensate would wash crud down and clog the crappy little tray or the trap, pouring water straight into the return air duct. I'd get called in to find 60 gal garbage cans overflowing in the space below. Are those wierd air filters touching the coils? If so when they get wet it will probably restrict air flow till they freeze themselves to the coil.

This is the second video I noticed since I first observed this, are the manufactures using two pole contactors to switch three phase loads? In this video I saw one three phase contactor and two two pole contactors. That definitely works for turning three phase on and off but a rather cheap way to do it. Unless the two pole contactors were for single phase fans. How common in your industry is that if that's what they are doing?

when you go through blasting highest to lowest, if the final drain is blocked it might backflow into one of the units? would it be safer to blow out highest to lowest, but outputting that water straight onto the roof? then blasting down the final drain separately? that would reduce the crap blocking the final drain too since it would go on the roof
@pensive69
@pensive69 3 года назад
Another thing. We do a lot of work with plumbing in general. The theory and design of drains isn't done well from what we see. Most drains are undersized from what the results show and are difficult to service and purge or clean. We don't service kitchen slime's and thank God for that.

Interesting, I take it code says it has to be drained into the sewage drain? Around here 99.9% are allowed to drain onto the rooftop and simply come out with a PVC P-trap and drain onto the roof. Of course, they get plugged too on occasion and water will leak out of the coil drain pan into the duct and onto the ceiling.
