I had some inspiration from a video by @thatdudecancook involving (yes more) Watermelon, and I've mashed up his idea for cola-soaked watermelon with a Navy Grog. I've also designed a second cocktail inspired by That Dude Can Cook and only one will go into my repertoire. So let's let these two new cocktails battle it out in a two part extravaganza, pitting them head to head to see which is the best. Here's part one, Water-Logged Grog, and tune in next week for the challenger, The Chamoyngo Margarita!
Grog Syrup:
This was done as a simple infusion, mainly because I'm not sure what will happen to the watermelon if I reduce it, though I will eventually try this as a reduction, both with and without the watermelon cubes included.
Build in a Mason Jar and store in fridge for at least 24 hours
Watermelon cubes
Ginger, about 3 quarter-sized slices, cut into strips
Peel from 1/2 a Grapefruit
Peel from 1 Lime
Covered in Cola (Mexican Coke)
~5 Cloves
1-2 Star Anise
1 Tbsp Honey
Other options: Cardamom, Cinnamon, Allspice, L.H. 151
To make true grog syrup, bring to a boil and then simmer until reduced by half.
