Water Meter Track Usage & Avoid Sewer Tote Overflow (RV Living) 4K

Most RVs don't have accurate gauges for the holding tanks so you are "guessing" when they are full. Then you might overfill your sewer tote, making a mess. Never again. Use an accurate water meter in your camper to always know how much water you are using, for showers, dishes, laundry, etc.
It also gives you more options- like state parks with no sewer hookup, or other campgrounds that only have sites open that don't have full hookups. Plus, if you are dry camping or boondocking, you need to know your water usage.
We show you how accurate the water meter is to track water usage and how it helps you dump your grey tank with less mess- no stinky overflow.

I use a bath scale to tell how full my portable tank is. I simply filled it with water, recorded the weight, and know to stop filling it when it is 80% of that weight to ensure a little margin of error. Easy.

My husband and I love to watch your U-Tube videos. However, from the get-go of this video, I got very grossed out that you did NOT wear gloves during the sewer "know how." As a healthcare worker, you would know what I am talking about. But, we will continue to watch your U-Tube videos. We really enjoy your adventures! Soon to be ours, too!

Susan, I know how you feel 🤣 But he washes his hands constantly. He used to sell surgical spinal equipment and was often in the operating room. We knew we would get this comment. By not wearing gloves, he makes everything extra clean- washes everything often. I’m excited for your new adventures. And thank you for watching. We will try not to gross you out in the future - don’t watch the sewer tote vids then 😉 Alice

Thank you Larry for this video. It’s very helpful. I like that water regulator. Never seen that one before. I like how how have the tote hooked up to the Rv. That’s a great way to do that when you have no sewage. I see that with the privacy you have. Thank you for this video Larry and Alice.

Thank you Larry! My wife and I are still in the planning stages of RV living and haven’t ordered our toy hauler yet. We bought the toy first a month ago and forced our hand into the toy hauler arena thus narrowing our RV choices for sanity sake. Every time I watch you and Alice I learn something new. In the beginning of our research nine months ago we were pretty convinced that full hookups were going to be the only consideration for us. After learning over the last nine months how restrictive that philosophy would be we have now expanded our options to include boondocking/dry camping. The advice you’ve given us in this video has once again proven that you sir are a genius! Now if we could just make up our minds as to a Class-A toy hauler or a Fifth Wheel toy hauler we’d be that much closer to pulling this off this dream. Thanks again and God bless you both.😎

Rick, if you ask Larry- fifth wheel all the way. He loves it. We are always worried the engine of the class A,B,C would break down then we would have no home. Then you also have to have a tow vehicle. But others love the Class A and tow vehicle set up. Maybe you can rent and see if you like a Class A? We definitely cant stay at only full hookups places- so limiting. And we have only stayed at one private campground that wasn't part of our Thousand Trails membership. We aren't impressed by most private campgrounds- plus the cost! State parks are just so natural with really nice day use areas you can almost always walk or bike to. And our time in the Everglades was amazing. Plus, Ontario Provincial Parks- which our like our state parks- we had no water or sewer and only sometimes had power. But the areas were amazing. Im interested to see what you end up with. Let us know. And thank you for watching our videos and commenting. It really means a lot, Alice

@@DownsizingMakesCents Thank you so much Alice! Once again you are a wealth of information and it is greatly appreciated. I will definitely keep you updated on our progress. You share some very real and current concerns of ours. We are leaning towards a fifthwheel toy hauler for many reasons, but mainly because of being able to carry our trike, water capacity and boondocking capability. Take care.😎

I agree with the sensors on the rigs sucking. Will always take a better site over a sewer hookup. Very smart move. I love anything with the quick connects. I will be getting one of these. I would install that on my 90 elbow and just leave it hooked up all the time. One less thing to move around. lol I am lazy. Come on pull that black tank. lol Even if you filled to 28 gallon on the meter that also would account for black tank water as well correct? Since in the end it all comes in through the main line. This is really cool. I agree that it's a must have. I will be getting one for sure. Great video y'all.

I've been using a "Rain Wave" brand for several years. I first found out about the device on a "Love Your RV" video. I use ours for making sure of the amount of water in our fresh water tank for weight. On ours, the first one did leak internally. That wrecked the battery and caused the terminals to corrode. With the second one I bought I used some silicon to seal the battery area, problem fixed! I was able to repair and silicon seal that one too. I really like using it since, as you said, and any RVer will know or quickly find out, the panel lights just don't work! Our tanks read in thirds! Even harder to figure out. The 2-Grey and 1-black tanks in our 2017 Jayco are all 32 gallons so I'll be buying the 30-gallon tote for our adventures in long timing, NOT full timing! Since I do have two of these counters, I'll have to see how your procedure will work for me with one of them.

Joseph, we love that channel. We have learned so much. I like the term “long timing” 😁. Larry keeps all sorts of silicone- it’s like duct tape haha. To get the flow meter to be right side up it need's be connect to the campground water spigot first or if using a regulator then connect it to it then the water hose to the RV. That's was the design of usage, apparently the manufacture didn't consider it would be connected it to the RV which it made it look upside down.
@DownsizingMakesCents
@DownsizingMakesCents 3 года назад
You are correct, I wanted it connected in the wet bay instead of at the spigot. It’s easier to remember to reset it when I empty the grey tank. They could have designed it so the computer could be flipped but they didn’t. Larry

Sandra Westley from the UK not one of our sites has a sewer connection, we don’t do them over here, we all have cassette toilets, which is in essence like what your doing, we empty ours every 2 days, all pitches have electricity and some have water connection, but never sewer connection. I think it’s just easy our way, our cassette has wheels on and there is always a cassette emptying place set on its own, so washing it out by the water hose provided, we also use bio degradable liquids in the cassette so there are no smells. And as it’s always completely separate area to empty these cassettes there is no likelihood of contamination of hoses, by people that have no idea of cleanliness 😂😂
@DownsizingMakesCents
@DownsizingMakesCents 3 года назад
We spent some time in Ontario provincial parks - often with no hookups at all. People mainly used their blue boy. I’ve seen videos with the cassettes. Very interesting. With this water meter, you could wait to dump only when you need to. But if you’re use to dumping every couple days? It sounds like it works for you 👍 Alice

Great concept - thanks for sharing. I have the Rainpoint unit and returned it twice before I got one that worked correctly. The Restmo appears to be a better unit (just ordered). Keep in mind that there is water pressure and water volume. Using quick connect will lower your volume which may or may not be an issue for everyone. Personally I avoid quick connects on the RV for this reason.
