WATER MONITORS IN THE WILD! (are we keeping them correctly?) - Adventures in THAILAND (2020)
Asian water monitors or just water monitors, are one of the most popular pet monitor lizards, but how are they living in the wild? In this video, I venture out across Thailand from the jungles of the south, to urban areas like Bangkok to see how these amazing lizards are living in the wild so we better know how to care for them in our homes!

He'll get there soon. These things are usually non-linear, where years of hard work lays the groundwork for "suddenly" getting popular. His videos are certainly good enough to catch fire when the RU-vid recommendation algorithm finally figures out who all to recommend the videos too.

Get a mangrove monitor, 4ft is a big one, they're one of the smaller more manageable monitors that's ACTUALLY reasonable to keep. Ackie monitors are another small monitor species that most people can feasibly own without needing to build a GIANT enclosure for it. Don't give up on your monitor dreams!!

Lived in Thailand for 12 years .... in Thai the water monitor is called "Hia'" pronounced heeah, it is also one of the worst insults, curses to call someone "hia" ... will lead to violence. It is such a taboo to say that many people will not even call the lizards that, they will call it "dtua tong dtua neung". meaning body gold body silver, a reference to the yellow and white spot markings on the body, resembling coins. They also can be seen on some beaches hunting small crabs and looking for dead fish, they will swim in the sea also., the young ones are good tree climbers but the big adults stay on the ground or in water.

Nicely constructed, informative video. The biggest water monitor I've seen in the wild was about 7 feet long on Hong Island on the Andaman Sea off Krabi. With the park and tourist facilities on Hong Island, the monitors there probably fall between the urban and wild classifications it didn't run for cover. If we have them in Northwest Thailand, I haven't seen them.

I know cocohusk can keep humidity great in tubs but for a monitor needing a larger enclosure I feel a substrate that can compact a tad better would help more. I have small & large PVC & wooden enclosures for all my animals & found that cocohusk doesn't retain humidity that well alone. So I did a dirt ,soil, husk-coir/moss mix & it held humidity way better.
