busy and fast kills a groove, especially a syncopated one.. just my opinion...I've witnessed in close proximity quite a few versions by at least 4 other drummers and 4 other bass players. Gary is a fine drummer but he has wah wah syndrome with his cymbals. Nice touch soling over the bridge changes. Bass player doing a nice solo and visually almost incognito. Get that man up front for this tune. Ironic that Allan originally intended for the 7/8 measure at the beginning but because of the attractive rhythmic symmetry most if not all drummers (starting with Husbands through Donati) perceive it at the end of section one. Allan referred to it as a "reset" ...colloquial terminology from a genius.
