Unicatwhal ugh are you applying? I find that UC Davis is a fair school for academics. I say this because the focus isn't really on learning, it's more on research. I felt my classes in high school were more challenging and I learned more. I currently have a 4.0 GPA, so no I'm not saying this because I'm not doing well. It's just my opinion. But good luck. I hope you get in. I changed my major to Engineering by the way(: I'm hoping to get into medical school still. I wanted to have a knowledge outside of medicine and biology, so I chose engineering.

this 10 minute video taught me more than a 50 minute lecture. how do you find the pressure potential in a closed container? my homework examples are asking to find the water potential of a cell and as far as I can tell, the pressure potential isn't listed. all we're given is the molar concentration and the temperature. am I supposed to be able to find the pressure potential based on those givens? thanks.

how does increasing temperature decrease the water potential? if temperature increases, then it means that the particles will move faster and more randomly. this means that the eagerness of the water particles to move out increases( similar concept as pressure). but according to the formula, is T increases, then water potential decreases and this means the the water is less likely to move out. I have searched on Google several times but i couldn't find the answer. thank you
@donttagmeinyourreply1304
@donttagmeinyourreply1304 3 года назад
basically you use temp. in the equation to find solute potential. the higher the solute potential the lower the water potential. so therefore the higher the temperature the lower the water potential

Paul, there is another convention for significant figures. The rule I use does not use only figures in the answer equal to those given. it uses the all the, “certain” digits and then the first uncertain digit, but no more. So, at 8:47, I would provide -4.9 bars as the answer. In engineering, this is common practice.

First of all just wanted to say grateful I am that Mr. Anderson takes time to make these informative videos. I am still a little confused on one part though and if someone could provide clarity that would be super helpful. Why is it that when solutes are added it decreases the solute potential if it also lowers the water potential? Is it because the water will move into it eventually and we are taking the measurement after the process has happened?

Professor Anderson, why did you choose to utilize bars over MPa megapascals. Bars is not approved by the international system of units (SI). I would also assume since psi pressure is a physical force relatable to measurements conducted in physics studies and other STEM science studies. It is also labeled in my pearson textbook as such. I ask because the only place I have ever seen bar measurement is weather stations, and on pneumatic technology and compressors frequently.
