After a long time of solving technical problems the new waterwheel pump is now finished. The idea is to pump water with no source of energy exept of the water itself. Thank you for visiting my channel and enjoy the video!!!

I'm been thinking about the elevated location of your wheel. At first, I thought that it was sacrificing quite a bit of power by not being down in the water. While maybe true - I'm realizing your installation design may have several advantages. (1) Debris coming through the pipe would fall away rather than getting stuck under the wheel (2) Stopping the pump just involves stopping the flow of water through the pipe (3) Spring high water may just flow under the wheel (4) Rather than build an elaborate support structure under the wheel - hang the wheel with the beams from the sides of the stream This is pretty unusual - my compliments

Very nicely done ! Some enhancement proposal : feed the water (more) on top of the wheel and win an additional 50% power. Make the cilinder bigger ( or diameter or displacement), there seems even now a lot of power not used.

You should have built a double cylinder capable of pumping in the way in and in the way out. You will double the amount of water, and would never stop supplying

@bryanshomeprojects
@bryanshomeprojects 3 года назад
The water can be pumped up to ~10 meters, than the wheel stops due to the high presure. But if you have more water, greater wheel i think that this concept could work for higher perfomances

@bryanshomeprojects
@bryanshomeprojects 4 года назад
Thank you :) the main part of the cylinder is made out of messing. There is an second part at the end of it to close the cylinder, its out of stainless steel. The inner Diameter is about 4.5 cm. The cylinder and the piston are the only components of the wheel i did not made myself. I had not the tools for it ;)

Hi Dave! I am thinking about an redesign and optimize the components. One of the problem: The water brings to much dirt and lime in the pumping system. Would like to make an video-serie about the designing and construction of the next wheel. But have to find the time and workplace to do it ;)

@@bryanshomeprojects Is the dirt a problem for the piston pump or does it cause other problems. Water filtration is a challenge.
@bryanshomeprojects
@bryanshomeprojects 3 года назад
@@davebean2886 Yep, i deconected the pumping system to fix something else and the piston gets stuck in the cylinder after it have dried out. Could clean it and polish it and reuse it for the next wheel, but have to make the gap between piston and cylinder much greater (now: 0.2 mm). We'll see :)

@@bryanshomeprojects I experimented with silicone spray to try to keep algae film from attaching on the input filter. Didn't run long enough to really tell, but looked like it might have some short-term potential. It will be interesting to learn how increasing the gap effects performance.

Thank you for the water wheel mechanical pump video - I think this type of pump has more potential than is recognized . While the test result was only 2541 liters per day (671 gallons per day) it was pretty obvious that this water wheel could handle a lot more water. I invite you to discuss this approach and approaches in the Water Powered Pumps public facebook group - here is the direct link to the mechanical water powered pumps discussion post: facebook.com/groups/240458583255303/permalink/246390692662092/ Great looking water wheel !
@bryanshomeprojects
@bryanshomeprojects 4 года назад
Hi Dave Bean, great thank you! I also believe that there is potential in that. The problem for this type of pumping system is that the water has to be clear, because of the piston. I think with some improvements (and industrial pieces) it could pump a lot more water with the same amount of input-water. Thanks for the FB invitation
@davebean2886
@davebean2886 4 года назад
@@bryanshomeprojects Thanks for the reply. Good point about the quality of the water. If your water had the potential of quite a bit of silt, do you have a favorite style pump that you would try next for a remote, not often monitored situation?

@@davebean2886 Are you thinking about to build an water wheel pump?
@davebean2886
@davebean2886 4 года назад
@@bryanshomeprojects I have 3 acres of grassland that in the past has been irrigated using a gravel diversion dam 3/4 of a mile into the upstream neighbor's property that feeds a dirt ditch where the water is eventually used for flood irrigation. Unfortunately, each spring, the high water washs out the diversion dam and the process has to start over. Grid connected electricity is not available at this location and we have experimented with gasoline water pumps. The location is a ways away and it is an effort to keep the pump running and some expense for extended runs. There are fuel pumps that will run quite a long time, but are expensive for the pump. If the pump runs dry - bad things happen. Not the best for a remote installation. If necessary, I might buy enough ram pumps from Land To House to get the job done. Seth is currently testing approaches with low pressure and volume Wobbler sprayers that I've already used for a separate gravity feed situation. To answer your question - building and installing a 24 x 7 operating wheel that can provide the power to pump enough water, so far has been beyond my capabilities. If I have to this year, I may put in a dozen 1 1/4 inch drive pipe ram pumps - we have the water and maybe I can get enough head. I'm fearful of the racket a dozen ram pumps will make. Given the above situation, I came up with the idea of soliciting ideas from people from around the world about what they are doing with water powered pumps. Some installations are huge - some are a very small. Just past 300 members with almost every commercially available water powered pump maker participating. facebook.com/groups/240458583255303/ I'm sure others would be very interested in your wheel and ideas.
