Hey everyone! I decided to start a new Scrap Mechanic Survival playthrough but this time with the Raft Mod! Thank you to Dr. Pixel Plays for giving me the inspiration by showcasing this mod and I look forward to this new adventure! In this episode I start off by gathering the necessary resources required to build a basic raft, but even that doesn't come without its own challenges! About Scrap Mechanic:
Scrap Mechanic is an all-new creative multiplayer sandbox game which drops you right into a world where you quite literally engineer your own adventures! Choose from the 100+ building parts you have at your disposal and create anything from crazy transforming vehicles to a house that moves. You’re even able to team up with your friends to create amazing things together: in Scrap Mechanic, you’re the master creator of anything you can imagine!
Here’s the deal: you’re a robot maintenance mechanic en route to your posting on a fully-automated agriculture planet. Your job is to take care of the worker robots as they work the land, sending the food they produce to the metropolitan planets. Thing is, close to touchdown your spacecraft loses control and crashes, but since you’ve got luck on your side (erm…), you survive! You’re stranded though, and at first glance you find that not everything’s quite as it should be. The Farmbots working the fields have gone crazy, and now there’s only one way to stay alive: using your quick thinking, your creativity and your wily knack of turning your surroundings to your advantage.

Scrapman made a Nomad series, kAN made a 'the floor is lava', and you made a Raft series in Scrap Mechanic Survival, I wonder what kind of other challenges you can do in this game

This is what I was going to recommend. Fant has some great additions for water travel that would really make this playthrough unique!

The propellers are great with piston engines and if you stack them they kinda break real world physics as you put in same amount of turning force but get double the speed

Kosmo, you know that you can just hold e on the rods to refine them instead of getting a refine bot.

I think you get more wood out of the refine bot. In this mod wood will be a scarce resource.

The point of the game is to automate everything in survival and you know survive. Even with some mods thats just ponit is to survive. Getting a refine bot will just help automate the process and make it so you don't have to refine every single rod by hand no matter the material. Because no one wants to refine 2000 rods by hand. Just wait a bit and have the bot do it as you get some by hand and work on your build. Also refine bot automatically put things in chests and chests lead into the craftbot and thats also alot easier. Soo short story short. Get a REFINE BOT!

The glow from resources is useful when gathering wood stone ect @ night. But a on/off toggle in the settings would be great!

Why do you need the shine when gathering? Do you lose track of the logs that you were just smacking with your hammer not even 5 feet in front of you? Like, it's mostly useful strictly for mining near a hill and that's it. Am I wrong?

@@Hadeks_Marow I suspect my drills are a tad too much, the stone and metal grind is the main issue once it breaks apart it flies all over the place? Wierd. Nightine is great at finding the glow/glimmering resources. Have a greatday!

@@Hadeks_Marow lucky not every time but I try my best to ensure my game is as lag free as possible but I suppose you need plies of stuff to lag the game out badly. I also clean up toatbot heads haybot arms ect.

@@coffee_gaming Lag just means collisions when it comes to SM. Literally any collisions. It's due to how they run "co-routines", complicated coding stuff, just know it checks for collisions way too frequently. Which is why "piles" creates lag. This also will apply for bearings, suspension, pistons and anything else that causes moving parts to move separately from other parts.

tip: if you have a bearing rotating in a certain direction with suspension on 4 sides with heavy blocks attached at the end of the suspension it create a bit of force towards the direction in which the bearing is moving which you can use to your advantage during early and mid game when you dont have enough components kits and gasoline

You need to move your respawn point! Right now you will respawn in the middle tube - right next to a haybot that is spawn camping! Sleep in one of the other tubes instead please.

Oh, kinda like a water-based nomad survival. Might want to try experimenting with suspension glitches that work for rafts. Looking forward to more of this new series!

Hey Kosmo you can also capture glow-bugs and as long as your boat is light weight, you can use the glowbug’s interest in cardboard to power your boat. You can hit surprisingly high speeds doing this, just make sure the glowbug is boxed inside the boat and is crawling towards the cardboard but can’t eat it. As long as the glowbug pushes on a wall and can’t get out, it should push the boat.

Heh, fire and water. This looks cool. You missed the 4 handle blocks in the crashed ship! 2 in the bathroom and 2 around the front door. They are the only place in the game you can get them and it's not at all obvious you can collect them.

For a game where (some of) the devs also made something else with water. You'd think there might be more options for water life. I mean the maps do have large bodies of water.

This has so much potential :D imagine different islands with harbors (like for crate reloading on a truck/train/whatever or filling up on fuel, if the oil ponds are on small islands) to move crates from the sea to the trader, amphibious ships for traversing all over the map and in lategame Kosmo having a helipad on his massive water base ^^ I´m pumped for this series and am amazed about the things that might come ^^

Fant Mod has all you need. Working sails, propellers, wings, etc. And it's survival ready.

You probably know this and are intentionally not using it, but just in case you don't know using wood blocks / bubble blocks in a checkerboard pattern is basically a stability glitch for water. You can put a craftbot on a grid made this way that barely covers the bottom and it will float as stable as if its on land. Also, if you want an intermediate power source between hitting your boat with a hammer and using thrusters, you could use glowbug or woc power.

I'm _very_ skeptical about using this as a playthrough. . . and that is because there is a core fundamental issue with the concept: The whole gimmick is sailing around in an empty sea. The problem with that is. . . sailing takes awhile. . . where the act of sailing isn't exactly content. . . meaning all the "actual" content will be happening while your not at sea (building, farming, scavenging for supplies, ect) with the majority of the "gimmick" of the mod being scrapped in the editing process. It's a creative concept, but for a letsplay. . . i just worry the concept might end up working against itself in the long-run. Best wishes all the same, just hope it goes better than my fears imagine.

I’ve recently installed FantMod and play survival mode. This mod is amazing. You can build boat, helicopter, vtol etc without using thrusters. You can even automate almost everything e.g. automatic turrets which will turn on during raids and shoot only when they see enemy while aiming at them

I like the idea, it is a unique challenge. You should start with glowbug propulsion, it is almost free and can be really fast. Also, Splitting the bubble block slab into segments would help with stability (that’s just how SM calculates stuff).

Fant mod has a bunch of perts that would be good for raft mod. There are propellers, wind sails, water wheels, underwater thrusters.

i had a similar thing where i kinda got tired of vanilla survival, but since im inexperienced in modding survival i thought of ways to put a twist on survival in vanilla and i thought about base location and realised theres no hostiles that spawn on the second floor of the building that the parkingg lot right from the crashed ship leads up to, still in the process of putting an elevator lift on it for easier access but hey its a work in progress as most things in this game are

hmmm... glowbug powered raft maybe?? 😅✌️🔥 edit: cardboard on a block/pipe + bearing + seat = crude steering. maybe a switch + controller to lower and raise the cardboard to trigger the glowbugs... ( apologies for being a terrible backseat gamer ✌️ )

By the time chapter 2 comes out. Kan is going to be a lift jumping pro. Scrapman is going to be able to build the most weirdest complex machine without trouble. As for you. Your going to be a pro at building boats and boating around to other Islands.

Hey Kosmo! I think Fant mod might work in survival with Dr Pixel Plays mod, but I’m not 100% sure. Fant mod has underwater rocks that you can mine, and it has some water related parts such as water detection, water thrusters, and also those propellers and wings that you wanted. Also ballasts and other things

There's a mod for this?!? Of course there's a mod for it! lol I was thinking about a playthrough like that, but just wanted to raise the water level to flood everything. Could not figure out how. This idea with islands looks even better though. Should be an awesome series. Also instead of thrusters you can use paddle wheels in water. Basically build a big + with bearings on either end, then to those bearings attach small paddles so they are parallel with the arms of the +. The system is a bit more efficient than thrusters, and with some tweaking you can get it to be as fast as sprint-swimming.

You most likely can get the wings mod to work with this mod since I assume that all this one does is decrease land size and increase water although I have not tried modding scrap mechanic just yet since right now on my series I'm building base defense contraptions and exploring my world

Hey kosmo you should run the fant mod. You can use a piston engine to power a propeller and if you stack them on one bearing it gives more speed and it doesn't take double the effort from the engine because the propeller movement force isn't applied like it should be

A base on a little island would almost be ideal, before ya know it your raft will be way to complex, we all know Scrap mechanic.. but your gameplay is going to be raft based anyhow as it's gonna be 70% of transport

you just need to include the wings mod items in the survival item logs, an include recipes for crafting them and which bot they are crafted from... its a lot of tedious work but it's do able.

I don't know for sure, but i don't think it is possible to get the wingmod in survival at the moment, i know the fant mod also has propellers and wings but that is probably not compatible with the scrap raft mod, like you can't get both mods at the same time since you need to change the game files

Imagine if the devs put like a baker bot which is like the cook bot but has different recipies like it can make bread using woc milk and even makes like cakes or bearing cookies and stuff
