In the Studio with Michele Webber that’s funny!! I probably need to do that! The struggle is getting real here too! I counted yesterday as a win as I was able to score some toilet paper at the store!! The upside is that with my clients canceling their appointments I have stayed home and painted a lot!
THANK YOU! I've been wanting to paint my doggy and had no idea how to paint fur. He's a Pomeranian, TONS of floof. I truly am grateful for all the techniques that you've provided.
Thank you for all your water techniques which they did not give you in basic watercolor class. But, best of all are your “dry” asides; made me laugh out loud again today. They are good ones, yet not mean.Thank you
Oh wow at the various techniques, especially scratching the paper before putting down the colors. Definitely need to find my craft knife & add it to my painting box. I also need to remember to do a background wash first before doing the animals. I have guilty of doing that backwards😬. No wonder my painting are a mess. Thanks for breaking down the various techniques for doing fur. Got to do another fur painting soon.
Thanks Michele...I can't wait to try these techniques in a watercolor of my daughter's dog. You are a wonderful teacher. I have learned a great deal from your tutorials.
A few things: 1) What’s the purpose of scratching the paper when you’re doing dry brushing over the top? It covered up all the little lines. Also - in the first image, your scratches looked darker than the surrounding area, but on the second sheet of paper, there were lighter areas streaked throughout the painted area. How is that? 2) Love your nails! 3) Celine Dion is a goddess.
It's an old video, but I will try to answer. 1. The scratches just add to the overall texture of there being multiple lines, they do make a difference in real life even though they may not show on camera. Light areas may be white gouache, but more likely there's a thing that happens sometimes with the knife and even with a watercolor pencil where the point actually moves the paint out of the way, leaving a light area. 2. Thank you. 3. Celine is fab but I would rather listen to metal ;-)
Your squirrel is absolutely brilliant Michelle. I've always wondered how fur Could be painted in watercolour. Thank you so much for thus brilliant video. Very grateful indeed. Wish I lived near you, I would definitely attend your class x
Thank you for sharing these techniques, I haven’t attempted fur in watercolour yet but I will certainly be giving it a try. Just have to watch the video yet again before I dig our some old acrylic brushes to destroy 😂 great information and so clearly described and demonstrated as always, top notch!
This was really helpful Michele, thank you. I have a Bichon Frise dog, and I have tried to paint her, but without great success. I wonder if you could give me some tips on how to recreate, or at least give the impression of, her curly hair? Many thanks! I love your tutorials by the way, thank you so much for making them!
Thanks for watching! Curled hair tends to sit in clumps, you don't need to do it all over, just an impression of texture with some curls at the edges and around the face, neck perhaps.
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Thanks for your prompt response Michele, I'm very grateful. I'll have another go at my pooch, though she really is curly all over. I get what you mean about just giving the impression of her curls. Thanks again. I have learnt a lot from your tutorials!
I'm working on a kitten right now ---- maybe I'll try and incorporate this technique (I wanted it to look loose but sadly, I haven't achieved it). I think I'll use a cut-up store card for making the scratch/fur marks - don't trust myself with the knife.
Thanks for this great video, very useful. I find fur sooooo difficult but I will definitely try these techniques. Btw, I totally agree about Celine! Nails scratching on a board and her voice have the same effect.🤣
As a woman I totally get what your saying about loud equipment when your in a concentration zone🤬...lol😀 my neighbors seem to know when I'm trying to listen to a new video; or my husband's mowing or leaf blowing our walk ways, how do men pick that moment to use lawn equipment?...lol..thank you for your videos I'm really enjoying them as I become a more confident painter(still waiting for my paper in mail...lol) I'm going to join; or take your class, but in the mean time im extremely gratefully that artists are doing this for others like me...👍✍🎨😷 newyork strong mikelle....
Hi Michele. I found this video very informative so I will be trying these techniques of yours. Michelle the paints at the beginning of the video looked so juicy and wet, ( which paints are they). (Do you wet your paints and leave them for a time to let the water soften the paints). 🐶
Sometimes I do pre-wet but I didn't this time. They aren't one brand, I have lots. About two thirds are Talens Rembrandt, but there may also be some Daniel Smith, Winsor and Newton, SAA and White Knights ☺️ I am glad you liked the video!
Seem to have lost last comment!? But, can’t load your 50 watercolour tips! Hoping to learn 20 more as I’ve just finished your 30 utube tips! Not to be!Uugh! I put it required details but, no joy.
Hi Valerie, what happens is you enter your email address then an email is sent to you, for you to download the PDF, so do check your spam folder, the email will come from Mailchimp. If you can't find it email me directly (there's a form on my website) and I will send you a link to it.
With utmost respect white watercolour and white gouache are not the same. White will not show up as the colour of the ground will show through. Gouache is bound with heavy gum and is very opaque. So will paint as individual hairs. By the way hair in fur is pretty irregular not precise
White watercolor is generally Zinc white, White Gouache is usually Titanium white and is more opaque as you say. But some manufacturers sell Titanium as watercolor so the lines are definitely blurred.
Great video,, but i would have liked to have seen the finished cat's ear,, but great none the less,, also you're hysterical as after being a bit tipsy i did yell at my nighbors dog to shut up ,,, as it barks incessantly .. thanks again
Ah, sorry about the ear it was an unplanned ear, I should script more carefully! We have a happy dog over the back of us... I love all animals but it's hard to feel any affection for this one 😏 Thanks for watching ☺️
Hello. First. Thank you for the "fur"How To. I am a bit confused tho on why the bashing of Celine Dion. If you don't like her that's fine but why use your video to make Celine fans feel uncomfortable? My heart literally hurt and I had to replay 3 times just so I was clear on what I heard.. It was really unthoughtful and insensitive and I stopped watching your video after confirming thst I did hear what I thought you said. I did get a couple tips from your video though and I am sure the rest of the video is very informative on watercolor fur. I just don't want to be slapped in the face again by something else said off subject.. Hate is a waste of time and effort.
Dislike is not hate. We are free to dislike music, this video is several years old. I like Rammstein, you are free to dislike them and say so publicly, it doesn't matter. I teach art, nothing else.
I am aware I pronounce it incorrectly. Unfortunately I grew up in London, there's no French word we can't kill, just listen to us pronounce the S in Paris so it rhymes with Harris :-)
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I grew up in London also, so I am still a little confused to what you are trying to say 🙈 the English language pronounces it still as gouache. We don’t kill the French word, we simply pronounce it (any word in any language) we the rules of ours; which is the case for any one using a word from another language.
