If you choose to paint along here is my formula for an emotive watercolor gardening experience:
1) Rose and Foreground Foliage : Loose pencil sketch of subject focusing on your main character
2) Rose and Foreground Foliage : Begin with the Push and Pull method, laying in a line of color with your round brush and blending with a damp to slightly wet angle shader brush (tea consistency)
-while wet drop in a bit of the Interference Copper into the lightest part of each petal and leaf
3) Background: Loose soft watercolor corners using a fine spray mister. Paint in some blue & green into the corners and then blend out with angle shader brush and a light spray with the fine spray mister. This will give it a moody rainy day vibe.
4) Rose and Foreground Foliage: Once D=dry begin to deepen values, shadows, and details as needed. (tea to milk consistency)
-try to add limited details, just enough to tell the story
5) Dry Brush and Stencil lifting to add texture and interest as needed.
Color Mixing Tip: Dip the tip of your angle shader brush into a base color and mix together with one tablespoon water. Continue to dip the tip of brush to get a bit of mix in color and/or base color until you get a favorable color blend.
Adding more water = tea consistency/ lighter values
Less water =milk consistency/ darker values
No water = honey consistency / full value
Caution: Pthalo colors are very dominant in mixes, less is more.
Color Mixes to explore this month:
Burnt Yellow: HYL + QS
Olive Green: QS + PT
Fire Engine Red: QR+ QS
Magenta Red: QR + QS
Magenta Blue: QM + PBRS
French Blue: PBRS + QM
Abbreviation Legend:
HYL: Hansa Yellow Light
QS: Quincridone Sienna
QR: Quinacridone Red
QM: Quinacridone Magenta
PT: Pthalo Turquoise
PBRS: Pthalo Blue Red Shade

I want to thank you for your lessens on RU-vid. I'm living in South Africa and with all the problems here, (another story) I stay in my house and paint, using watercolors. Your work are touching my hart and I wish that one day I will have the connection and confidence that you have with watercolors.

Hello Susan, I am glad to hear that art is a safe refuge for you through trials. It really can minister to us, the quiet time, exploring colors and allowing time to play. Your heart can pour out onto the paper when words fail. Prayers heading your way for safety and continued creativity to carry you through.

This is the best and original tutorial I’ve seen on RU-vid for a long time. I’ve got more useful information from this one than a dozen I’ve watched from others. I’m ordering a lace stencil too and some interference watercolors. You’ve inspired me! Thanks!

I'm getting back into painting and this project really kicked my interest/desire up several notches!! Thank you!! I use DS paints almost exclusively. I have been in love with them since they first came out and the only way to purchase was direct from DS :-) I have several of the interference tubes and you are correct, they are a BLAST to paint with. Another DS paint that you may like is the duochrome Saguaro. It is a green/gold, the gold part is an interference type additive. It is lovely layered over other colors, particularly greens!! Highly recommend.

thank you for the recommendation, Saguaro Green is a favorite! I used it in this painting, it really is a delight to paint with! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pe2EgVB3xao.html

Thank you for sharing this beautiful painting and unique skills. May I ask the benefits of using tracing paper rather than a light box? It seems like so much more work.
@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour Год назад
Yes you can, (we each have our own preference) It is more work on the front end, but then I can save this drawing and use it again and again, also the light box I tried was limiting being on the smaller side.

@watercolorpour
@watercolorpour Год назад
I have students of all levels taking my in person classes, I encourage them to try new things and techniques, sometimes the more complicated the lesson the more we learn. I took a class recently and it was very hard for me, I did not have a successful painting sadly at the end of class, but I learned so much, I learned a new paint brush technique and fell in love with a new color I did not know how to use before. (Peryelene Violet) 😍
