Today we are painting little glass vases.
Thanks for joining me this year in this watercolor journaling journey. I hope to paint in my journal most days of the year and invite you to join me. We don't need big resolutions, just gentle intentions to tend to our creative soul a little bit everyday.

I prefer the direct down camera angle. I am fascinated by watercolors of glass!!

Thank you for the great suggestions for sketching (just basic shapes) and colors (swatch the values). As a beginner I sometimes over complicate things and these suggestions simplify it for me! Can't wait to paint these later today. PS: I like the new angle ... it is easier to see!

Yes, definitely keep it simple. Especially as a beginner. It helps you build up to more complex things without getting as frustrated. Thanks so much for watching.

I like the new angle as it allows us to see every stroke that you make.😊 A glass vase with flowers is one of the first videos I followed of yours. I found it so enjoyable because you make the process simple and easy to understand for beginners.

Depression glass was green or pink. I did something fun. I used a wax crayon to help leave white highlights! Like painting Easter eggs!😊

Thank you so much for the c(g)lassy video! These insights are extremely helpful. I never dared to try to paint any see-through material. With your help I uncorked this bottleneck and it turned out so nice. Since last time you said you liked puns I will not bottle them up in future.

In response to your asking us about the camera view, I thought it was perfect, (at least in my opinion it was great), as we can see your hand and I don’t feel that anything was lost at all. I really enjoyed this tutorial/demo today, thank you !!!😊😊

This one was a lot of fun! However, for the benefit of the survivors of VA art therapy who have drawn infinite numbers of cones, cylinders and spheres, how do core shadows and the corresponding highlights fit into drawing glass? Seems like your major highlights are in about the same place, but.... Anyway, thanks loads for the great fun!

Thanks for watching, Elizabeth. I’m not sure I understand your question? Glass is definitely a fun one to paint or drawn as it refracts light and with multiple sources, highlights and shadows can be varied. These are just illustrations that give a general sense of where highlights and shadows could fall to give a glass like appearance. For more realism, I would recommend doing a little observation with a vase or glass in a room with multiple light sources. A window, overhead light a desk lamp. Move your glass object around and see how the highlights and shadows move too. Put water in it and see how that changes things as well. Happy painting.

@@shanacirce2667 Thanks for the explanation. I'll hit the flea markers for a few pieces of glass and study on it. And thanks for all the inspiration!

Hi Shana, is it my imagination or am I all of a sudden hearing artist on you tube saying Value X thank you, wondering what it means. I like tbs angle as i can see everything you are doing especially with the gradient zoom facility now
@shanacirce2667

Thanks for watching. The value is how light or dark a color is. The more water you add the lighter the value is. The less water and the more saturated the paint or pigment is, the darker the value. I hope that helps.
