whats the size of paper apparently its not a4 or a5?
@JeanLurssen
@JeanLurssen 4 года назад
Not sure what you mean by 4 0r 5? I cut this from a larger sheet of watercolor paper and the size was 1" x 6.5" It doesn't really matter what size you use but wider horizontally for this composition I felt was better.

Fantastic Jean. Thank you. I love how you combined ideas from 3 different pics. And thank you for recommending Pixabay. It seems that texture was created the moment you placed the cling wrap down. What would happen if you removed it right away?

Clingfilm is a great way to create the dunes - it’s a struggle to paint them with the shading. Thanks so much 🙏

I cannot wait to give this a go, I wait in great anticipation each week, for your clips on RU-vid, Jean. I love how you explain the steps. Your style of painting keeps me encouraged and looking forward to putting watercolour on paper and I hope the wildfires are under control, sooner rather than later. We here completely understand the situation. Take care.

This is how I look for ideas too. I get color cues, shape cues, light cues, etc. from a mix of photos. And I puzzle them together into a painting. Then I look for cues from the painting, and add things here and there ... a branch, a bird, cloud, flower etc. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎨

Hi Jean, remember me? I'm the guy who talked to you about your notification bell not working. Anyways, I did a bit of web-surfing and found an apparent solution. It's odd that RU-vid couldn't (wouldn't?) give it to you. Seems that sometimes, when a person subscribes, this problem pops up. To solve it all the person has to do is unsubscribe and then subscribe again. I've done that one three different channels where I've experienced the problem and this fixed it each time. Just thought you might want to know in case someone else pesters you about it (grin).

Hi Jean…..I went looking for a tutorial on how to paint a desert scene. I happily came across this! I love the cling film effect for texture, but it’s been a few years since I learned how to use it. So, thank you! I don’t have the same colours you have and will have to see what I can use with what I have in my paint box. Thanks again for all you wonderful tutorials.

I'm a newbie at watercolour painting & this might seem a daft question but how do you know which paint tube colours granulate? Love your style
@JeanLurssen
@JeanLurssen 4 года назад
Hi Rob. If you purchase watercolors online there is usually a description that will tell you whether the paint is granulating or not. I would also suggest visiting Daniel Smith and other brand sites where they give detailed descriptions on each of their watercolors. They will always mention whether they granulate or not.

Dear Jean, when you draw the hills in the background, shouldn't they be lighter? It irritates me somehow...Usually the closer objects are, the darker they get. and the hills are far away.....or don't you mind just for creativity?? I don't want to criticize that, I just noticed it. You are free to do whatever you want...I love your paintings anyway.
@JeanLurssen
@JeanLurssen 4 года назад
It's more of an abstract painting and if I made the hills too light they would not have much of an impact. I took artistic license and made them the same value as the foreground to play the colors off each other.
@annegresock7928

Hi Jean, Beautiful painting and you do it so (apparently) effortlessly. I’m wondering, do you usually use 140 lb hot press as opposed to cold press or only when you are going for a certain effect, such as more granulation?

I’m new at this so my question is what is the difference in papers 300g to 160 ? I absolutely love your work and your explanation of how you are accomplishing your look. You’re awesome 💖 thank you so much.
@JeanLurssen
@JeanLurssen 4 года назад
It's about the weight and thickness of the paper. The thinner the paper the more it will buckle when using a lot of water.
