As a professional picture framer I have suggestions for your tear and tape issue: 1. Try a removable tape. We use Scotch 811 on mats and delicate art pieces when the tape has to hold and then be removed easily without damage. 2. Paper will return to its original fiber links if you use a tiny drop of water on the tear and gently smooth the tear with a soft dry brush. Give the water time to soak into the paper and the fibers will rejoin each other. Sort of like clasping your fingers together. I have used this technique numerous times to repair a torn or mis-cut mat. Actually most mat cutters just lightly touch their tongue with their index finger and then dab their finger onto the mat. 3. If you gave me this important piece to frame I would cut an exact opening from another sheet of the paper you used then adhere it to your artwork then mat it. Or a framer could measure the first mat 1/8” from your artwork and then select an appropriate white core rag mat. The weighted pressure of the first mat should be enough to cause the tear in the paper to appear invisible. * Before you try repairing the tear do a test on another small strip of your paper. Make sure to paint the paper also so you can control and see the effect of dabbing water on a tear. Last tip: When you tape down your paper it would be an enormous help if the width of the tape on the paper were the same on all 4 sides. Also, if you do not allow the tape to dictate the edge of your painting you will increase your matting technique choices. Check with the Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) to find out your possibilities for the conservation framing of your artwork. It’s important to correctly preserve your beautiful works.

The painting is gorgeous. If you heat the tape a bit with a hairdryer, the tape will come off without tearing.

Arthritis has gotten the gotten the best of me this year, and trying to interpret my new life in a way I could understand it, often leaves me frustrated . I came across your sessions strictly by accident, and am so grateful. Your simple approach to your compositions, your soothing voice, and reassurance that if something is not turning out the way it was expected, "I'm sure it will be alright" approach, inspires me to try something new. Thank you so much for everything you present to us. To me all your creations have always turned out fantastic. I'm not waterpainting yet, but whenever I need a charge in general, you always come through. Keep up the great work, and know that your human approach, attitude, and creativity has inspired me in more ways than once. You are so appreciated.

You are a wonderful artist and teacher. Always completely sharing your talent and being specific of how you achieve this superior art; unlike most tutorials and artists who just speed up the video and are more interested in displaying their final work. A true teacher instills confidence, an artist inspires, how easily you accomplish this. A heartfelt thank you.

This is stunning! Really encourages me to give this style a go as I can't draw, so this loose style appeals to me. When I get paper that rips a little I just glue the flap down with a little Matt medium and it hides it well. Would love to see more of this style!

Hi there... not sure if you found out yet, but the removal of tape is best done by gently lifting an end, then gently pulling out and away from the border at a 90degree angle and and down. In this way, you don’t pull paper or disturb any damp paint near the edge. That edge might have been pushed down a tad too hard. Also to smooth the rough bit where paper tore, get a tissue and a polished stone. Rub the stone on the torn area with tissue in between pressing in a circle motion.
@creationsceecee

I so enjoyed watching you create this lovely gift. Keren Tamir suggests using your heat gun over the tape, before removing it from the paper. It softens the adhesive, allowing it to be removed without tearing your paper. I am glad to know, I am not the only one who has dunked her brush into my tea, rather than the clean-up container! Do enjoy your channel, for you always do such nice projects and I enjoy your pleasant voice.

Thanx for that.... You know what? When I have that predicament of paper lift with the tape so cleanly as yours or even erratic, the safest way to keep it clean is to use paper glue to put it back into its original position....you will almost achieve no-tear look

You're teaching me the things I have needed to know to become a decent watercolorist (I hope that is a legit word?) I have never been able to keep it Lite and Schear so the colors are achieved in layers... I have done this many times by painting with oils straight from the tube then diluting the mixed colors with turpentine and painting with them as if they were ink. I found this technic to work wonderfully as long as I never used any white! Why had it never occurred to me before that it would work the same way with watercolors and water? duh... This was the main reason I stayed away from watercolors in the first place! Because when I did, I painted so heavy, as if they were oils and I would lose all of the lightness and the white of the paper... Thank You for solving my brain fog!

Stunning! Absolutely stunning :)....I know this is an older video, but it still might help someone else. The drafting tape is like a step down from masking tape (so not as sticky) and to keep it from ripping paper waaayyyy back in high school drafting class lol (actual drafting, not computer aided) our teacher taught us to lightly tap the tape onto our jeans or clothes before taping to paper specifically to keep it from over sticking and tearing the paper. The lint from our clothes helps take a little of stickiness away, but it still sticks. And to fix it--I've had this happen with my watercolor cards and I just used my paper glue & put a very tiny bit under the tear and smoothed it out. Worked for me and couldn't see unless really really looking for it. Again really enjoyed and loved your finished painting! Enjoy your day :)

I love your watercolour creations. I picked up a tip along the way that I found works quite well when you remove tape and it tears the paper. You dampen the torn paper then rub the damaged area with the back of a spoon and it seems to make the paper meld together as it dries. I have found it works quite often. It’s Better than leaving surface of paper raw and rough. Just a suggestion. Your art work brings me joy and love your wonderful sense of colour and fun.

If this happens again, If your paper is 100% cotton, wet the little piece that stuck to the tape and press it with your finger back into the wet paper below. It’s cold pressed cotton, that’s how the paper was made. Works like a charm.

Love your channel and what a gorgeous watercolor! Tip: I've tried all sorts of tapes for my watercolor but the best way I've decided is to use a clipboard combined with blue painters tape. Also, arches watercolor paper blocks are aaahmaaazing! They come is small to larger blocks of you prefer the 5x7 size you worked with on this. And I always find that using a mister on my palette allows me to work easier as it moistens my pans and gets them lively wo a struggle.

Try pulling the tape off at 45° angle,and when the painting is fully dry,then it won't tear up the paper....running blow drier along the tape also helps !!!

Hi CeeCee, What a beautiful loose painting, I have learned so much from this video. When pulling up the paper happens to me, I fix it with a little matt medium and pressing it down very well. You can hardly see it than. Thanks again Hugs, Nel Cornelissen from the Netherlands
