Very Good Video! Once I discovered water-soluble graphite pencils and watercolor pencils mixed in my paintings I was hooked. You demonstrated it perfectly!!!

This is a wonderful video. I started what I call my "Ugly Sketchbook" recently in order to practice my drawing skills in the evenings, as I wind down and 'watch' my evening murder mysteries. I leave my studio and computer behind and my kitty cuddles up with me after a day of 'work'. I wanted the process to be spontaneous (which I am not typically) and without self-judgment or high expectations. Thus the name of my book. I have an iPad and pull up a reference photo from Pixabay and have just started to pencil in a drawing. I am not trying to make art here. I am trying to replecate the shapes and work on proportions and value. After two drawings, I am happy, but I do feel the need to add more color. I have the Albrecht Durer pencils and also Inktense, as well as water-solueable graphite. I can also use ink. I want to continue this practice to better improve my skills, and after seeing your video here I agree that by adding color it seems so much more satisfying. Thank you for that. You made many excellent points and I am sure this will help me keep up the practice. Much appreciation. :)

I just previously found out that Caran d'Ache Museum Aquarelle in open stock is slightly more practical to buy than Albrecht Durer in the Art Bar Philippines, however it can only be found in the capital City of Manila and its neighboring cities. At least I can now finally crave for those stuffs

Your drawing skills are really remarkable, the figures look so dynamic 🤩! I was always good in drawing and I think it was as you mentioned because of careful observation, often it is eneough to check the right angles and proportions. However, I started painting last year and I neglected my drawing badly since I wanted to make fast progress with painting which I found frightening in the beginning. I am still quite bad with watersoluble pencils but they are actually the reason why I slowly find my way back to drawing-which as you said-can be very boring. I am looking forward to your classes on Patreon since I wanted to start figures this year 😉.

I love the Aquarelle's. I also bought a different set, can't remember the brand, that has 10B and 12B. I found I needed darker values. I also love the Derwent Graphitint pencils.

TBH, I don't enjoy doing artworks that are too easy to draw but I don't want the pressure of huge amount of time to spend to make beautiful artwork. That's why I almost abandoned my Faber Castell Polychromos for almost the entire year of 2023 because Regular Colour Pencil artworks took me so much time to finish and I switched to Watercolour Pencils or graphite-charcoal art instead.

Oh yes I can relate! I also felt that colored pencils took a lot of time although I really enjoy the medium and the looks of it.
