I enjoy sketching and painting outdoors. I'm always looking for ways to lighten my sketch bag. Recently I've tried a palette by Art Tool Kit. The Folio Palette allows larger wells of paint and pans I can add to the mixing area. Perfect size for short trips. All the images shown in the Etchr Perfect Sketchbook were done without refilling the palette.

I love art toolkit palettes (especially the folio, so I can use larger pans), but I have the same issue with the mixing side being not great for my style. I *love* your idea to use magnets so you can use the mixing pans on the lid, but keep the other side available for paint. That’s an awesome idea!

Great video- enjoyed your thoughts on it. I'm having fun using mine as well. I love those poppies and those location sketches are one knock out right after another. Fantastic work, Brenda!

Oh, yes! I used to take SO much with me that I actually sat down and cried when I realized that bringing it all back up the long stairs might not be possible. Light and convenient supplies - and not needing to do large paintings en plein air - changed my life! This is an excellent video for those who think that more is better! What if you cannot do this or that? You will still have a lot of fun!

@@brendaswensonwatercolors It takes me a very long time to learn things like this! I have ALWAYS taken too much with me! I remember as a little kid that I would pack up so much - just in case! Things have not changed much!

Love a great travel kit! The Art Tool kit palette is a nice size, and I enjoyed how you “made it your own” with the addition of the magnetic sheet and mixing areas! I have their smaller version. TFS!

When I took my own watercolor kit that I made to my communication class the teacher made fun of it because,” I didn’t have the fancy kit with 30 colors in it like the other students “ but at the end she really liked my sketches :) , so take your kit it doesn’t have to be fancy looking from a certain brand,as long as the color quality is good and more importantly your paper

@katriannamariait’s basically a tin box that I got from my art teacher long ago(in 7th grade ), I have my crimson red , yellow ochre, payne grey, black, cyan blue , ultramarine blue , and purple some of r actually gouache paint but I use them as watercolors, squeeze little bits in a each corner of my little box ( 4 on the led corners and 4 on the box corners) and use the space in the middle for mixing tbh I didn’t paint w watercolors for a while , thank u for your comment now I feel like I wanna use them again ! edit the tin box had something else like a charm or something like that , I reused it as a pallet

I so love your paitings! They are so expressive, beautiful colour choices, excellent execution, just the right balance between loose and detail. I have many of the same supplies (but I would never take a Visconti out for en plein air, I use a TWSBI Vac, holds an endless amount of ink!), but by far not the same skills yet. But I'm working on it!

Hi Brenda! I really like your sketches. What paint mixes do you use for your shadows? I love the soft shadow colours you use on the buildings.
@brendaswensonwatercolors
@brendaswensonwatercolors 2 года назад
I usually start with a thin glaze of Cobalt Blue. Before it has a chance to dry I drop in colors that I see nearby that would be reflected in the shadows. It's slightly different mix with each subject.
