I've just started using cling film for the effect of the woodland floor so thank you I hadn't thought of using it for foliage

Hello, do you darken the branches by going over the color you already laid down? with the same color? meaning it gets darker with multiple applications of the same color? or do you make a darker version of the original color and then apply that? Do you wait for the first layer to dry before applying a second and third layer? Also, I love not blending and just leaving the different shades of color showing through..is that ok to do? Most people on youtube say if you don't blend, it will look amateur, but I love that look. Thank you!

pickles yum Hi & thanks so much for the comment. For the branches, I used a combination of DS Olive Green and Anthraquinoid Red to create a neutral. At first, I also added a bit of Cerulean Blue to cool it down. I put the first layer on quite light, adding water. Then, I added another layer of this same color to darken and add the first layer of shadow. Next, I mixed the color warmer and darker, using the red and green and leaving out the blue. I used more red this time to warm it up a bit (make it more brown than grey). This I put wet-in-wet on the larger branch, then wet-on-dry on the smaller branches. Each layer has to be completely dry before you add the next layer. As long as it's not drippy, I use a blow dryer to speed things up sometimes. To blend or not to blend? I think that is completely up to the artist and the look you're trying to achieve. Don't ever let someone tell you that there is only one way to do it. If I were you, I would try several methods from artists I like. Then, I would decide for myself which method(s) work for me. Eventually, you will develop your own style and your own way of working.

Thank you so much. I'm doing fine...I just have a lot going on right now. I probably will make more art videos, but not at the rapid pace I did when I started this channel. We'll see!

Turner used gauch. No such rule. If it works, use it.
