This video answers the question how much much I water my lawn. People want to know this answer so bad for some reason. I plan on this video receiving some criticism because it is water that we are talking about and water can be a controversial topic.

Finally someone with a lawn the same size as mine. Thanks for the video. Everything is easier where I grew up. 1/4 acre. Now not so much.

Great vid. For my little diy system I like the mp rotators as well. I wish they put out just a little more water a little more quickly than they do but I think it looks like a better spray pattern than the rain birds you mention.

Ryan Knorr Lawn Care yes the mp rotators are great. I think they are designed to allow water to soak into soil without runoff for deep watering. However, I been having issues with mine spinning way, way too fast.

So I was on the fence about upgrading my sprinkler timer. If you haven’t already updated yours( I know it’s been a year! ) you should look into a RainMachine brand WiFi controller!!! I spent some dough and bought one but OMG, I love it! I didn’t want to be tied to a “cloud” service just in case something happened to the manufacturer or they wanted to charge for the service in the future, I wanted something open source. I wanted something with a cool nice display too! Being able to just tap the screen and see the weather forecast and precipitation rates needed is so cool! Easy interface huge plus! The app for your phone is nice and easy too. Of course with you being on a well it’s not about saving water like it is with me on city water. It really would just be a luxury item for you, haha! But you seem to like cool stuff so I thought I’d share my experience with the research I did. It’s s cool (to me) to watch it do it’s thing though! It will watch the noaa forecast and others. If rain is expected it will hold off the next watering cycle and see what happens. If the predicted amount wasn’t met, it will add it to the set time automatically. Also, turning your irrigation on from your phone is handy as heck!!! Anyway been keeping up with your vids, you are so handy and informative. I appreciate you sharing! Keep up the awesome work! Kudos from OKC! Yo dawg, I’m so late!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😜

Great video! I water my turf at night too. I water 4 cycles for each zone 15 min per zone, and between each cycles I let water soak into soil for one hour. Watering at night is not a problem as long as the humidity is low. I like your style sir 😎

Thanks for the video Connor. Like I said in my email, I water in a more sandy soil close to a river. I water 5 days a week at 35 minutes on my rotors and 20 minutes on my direct sprayers. I hope you like the pic with the red lawn. My wife now wants a red lawn rebel shirt.

Hey Connor, you've inspired me to sort out my lawn! I'm on an Orchard and we use the pro C controller too. For more consistent watering you can set it to water odd or even days and so it will actually water every second rather than 3/4 out of 7.

I have the same control box in my back part of my house. It works great. I like it too. I upgraded to a new box in the front and I can control it with my phone. I love it. I got it because my control box in the front was not working right. Going on when it was told it should be off. The water I use comes from the pond on the property. The pond is big as a hockey rink in the back of the property. My dad threw a pup in in the 80’s. It is like free water. Only paying the power to run the pump. Upgrade the pump like 15 years ago to a variable speed pump. Only pumps the amount of water needed for the number of zones I have on. By the way the main pipe up through the lawn is 2”. I can move a lot of water fast. Till it down sizes to the sprinkler heads. Takes a lot to maintain 5 acres where 95% of it is grass.

Yo dawg, I just installed irrigation (all hunter MP rotators) this last month and tore the crap out of my lawn. Made me cry a little to see my neighbors dominating me so hard. And now of course it’s been raining daily here. But It’s all good. I shall dominate with the reel low cut Bermuda once again.

Yo dawg. On those 5000 sprinklers there’s a screw you can set into the stream of the spray. The more you screw it down the more fan-like the stream will be. Give it a try. That may help you with a more even distribution.
@joer481
@joer481 4 года назад
If your rotors are putting most of the water at the edge of the arc you do t have enough pressure and flow for the size nozzle or number of rotors you are running on that section of sprinklers. Also hunter rotors work better than rainbird ones. Make sure you use a filter on your drip system or you will be forever cleaning nozzles. Rachio is epic if you can pay the extra $50 for it.

Dang, where I live in Australia 🇦🇺 we pay by Kl tier system , first 75kl will cost you $0.77 per Kl, 2nd tier 75 Kl is $1.20 per Kl ,then 3rd tier is $2.38 for every Kl after the first 2 tiers. This is in Australian dollars and if I watered as much as you do I would have to pay 💰 $3000 or more a year to water my lawn .Dang. It gets up to 45 deg Celsius over here in summer. Your video is informative as usual and the lawn and gardens are looking fantastic.👍

Life is definitely different in the high desert on a well. In the PNW, just south of Portland, I run my zones 4 days a week, twice a day: 5min in the morning, 3min in the late afternoon. The water here ain't cheap either. I cannot sink a well (zoning regulations), so, it's off the municipal source only, and believe me, they'r'e proud of their water. Even watering as little as I do it isn't uncommon for the summer water bill to exceed $200/month, which may not sound like much to some, but for amounts to only about 4000sf of lawn... well... ouch.

Yo dog, looks like the sprays you use are the Hunter Pro series, can I recommend using the Rainbird nozzles, they come in quarter, half and full from 5-15 feet, they are much more efficient than that Hunter adjustable spray nozzle! Also with Kentucky Blue Grass its better to cut your zones in have and water 6 days a week, for instance if you run a spray zone for 20 minutes 3 days a week, water it 10 minutes 6 days. Best time at least in Colorado is to water is just before sunrise, we get a Blight here called Ascochyta Leaf Blight. Its caused by water sitting on the turf during really warm nights.

For viewers new to these things, regarding the Rainbird 5000 rotors, one mistake I see nearly everyone in my neighborhood make is they don't select the correct flow rate for the pattern. These rotors rotate at the same speed, regardless if they're doing a 20 degree arc or a full circle. So, a quarter-circle (corner of the lawn) arc will put down twice as much water as a half-circle rotor IF THE NOZZLES HAVE THE SAME FLOWRATE. In this example one could use a 3.0 GPM low-angle nozzle for a half-circle and a 1.5 GPM low-angle nozzle for a quarter circle and they will be applying the same amount of water coverage per unit of time.

I always like Conner's videos because I don't agree with most anything he does: namely, mowing short, and spray nozzles are the worst of all options (go with MP rotators!). However, his lawn looks great, so it is nice to challenge one's assumptions. I like having an independent perspective. Thanks again Conner.

I live in Utah also, but the house I bought had more trees originally. The last owner took some trees down and converted the yard to mostly grass and now the sprinkler system is a mess (20 sections on 1/2 acre!). I converted all my rotary sprinklers to MP rotors, but I'm not overly impressed. The 26-30' ones should have been adequate, but they leave a green circle of about 15' radius, any further the grass is yellow (It has been hot). The plan is to bring the property back to its former glory, based on Google Earth historical images. Pray for me.

YOOOO DAWWWGGG! I love your videos! I live a little South of you with a similar size lawn that I have been rehabbing. (Short sell house we bought about a year ago). I mow tall and this summer I have had to water about the same. Keep up the great work. I'm about to start my leveling process as well. If your looking at timers, take a look at the Orbit BHyve. They have 6 & 12 zone models that sync to your wifi and you can control them with your phone from anywhere. I use the 12 zone one. Got it from HD. Lowes sells them as well. They had a pretty good rebate program on them last summer. As a fun gimmick, I can tell my Alexa powered Ecobee thermostat to turn on whatever sprinkler zone I want for whatever amount on time I want. LOL! Keep being a lawn rebel!
@dustinpeterson2180
@dustinpeterson2180 6 лет назад
Because of your climate- not too much to worry about disease pressure when watering overnight. It’s better for you to water overnight vs. being less effective loosing water to evaporation at other times. Make sure to check out Rain Bird controls before upgrading to Hunter. There are a lot of enhanced user features now to look at and compare. One of the best is WiFi connectivity to adjust and run irrigation from your phone. You can also think about running irrigation based off of ET (evapotranspiration) rates. The concept is to replace the water that the plant looses during the day based off of weather conditions. New controllers have easier ways to accomplish this rather than calculating everything out by hand.

Yo dawg, you'd love my in ground sprinklers. My system is circa 1985, with mostly original style heads. I have rain bird maxi paw impulse heads in the larger areas and rain bird 4000 series sprays in smaller areas. Yo Dog or Yo Dawg... I hate my 32 zones worth of rotors as well. Something that might help is that you can change the nozzles out to get a better fan pattern or adjust the screw on the top to help with the fan pattern for the close in watering. I myself would like to replace out my rotors with the MP rotors.

I have a friend who went with Hunter Hydrawise and he has been less than impressed with their software interface and weather control features. I don't have personal experience with them, so I can only speak to the ease and extensive control Rachio's platform offers.
