In the final video of our series created in collaboration with Waterloo Uncovered, Phil Harding recounts the story of Hopton Castle, the location of a bloody siege during the English Civil War.
During Time Team excavations on the site in 2010, Phil discovered a striking fragment of the struggle between the defending Parliamentarians and attacking Royalists - a single human tooth.
Join us as Phil examines how human remains are a unique and vital aspect of discovering the past the past in archaeological excavations from Hopton Castle to the Battle of Waterloo.
We are proud to be collaborating with Waterloo Uncovered to bring you a new video series. Waterloo Uncovered is a registered UK charity that combines a world‐class archaeology project on the battlefield of Waterloo with veteran care and recovery.

Phil is a jewel and an excellent orator of digs. I truly learn from his filling out the facts on events which occurred on the site historically. Thank you Phil . 😎

And look how plump this trench wall is. I've tried when gardening and can never get them as clean and straight as he did.

I love the way you weave your personal knowledge and the historical facts into your commentary. You definitely need to have your own regular program, just going back over all of your experiences and re-telling them from your standpoint and bringing to life the history of the site from the standpoint of the actual archaeologist who dug it. Five Stars Phil***** Regards Clayton

I remember when I first started watching Time Team when it started. Was in high school and would enjoy an evening of Time Team. When they came across to ask Phil stuff I, sadly, thought the local farmer had come to help out (was before I knew who anyone was)

Our American Civil War was just as nasty and divisive as England’s. Maybe it’s just that our Anglo-based societies, really know how to do it.😉😉😆😆
