Get rid of that big clumsy knife. Get a striker for the ferro rod. Plant that rod at the base and use long frequent strikes and shower it with sparks. Gotta generate heat. It's not the material, but technique. Not blasting u. Good video. Takes practice

I'd say the last two fire starters weren't as advertised. Period. He hit those piles with big sparks. God forbid you were in a real survival situation trying to light it with a spark from two rocks or something. The first product worked fine .

I love blackbeard. Have had zero problem starting it. You need to blast it with sparks though.

I use the same firestarters that I use for my wood stove all Winter. Made by Rutland--the company that specializes in woodstove products. 24 squares for $10. A third of a square is plenty for most fires. If you are dealing with wet wood--use a whole square.

Try practicing your ferro rod striking, you didn’t have enough heat in the sparks.

yes , I have to get a striker , the back of my knife is not made for that , I'm also tearing up my ferro rod at the same time

@@theghost7083 many people use the back of a knife spine for a striker. like Nathan said u just need to practice technique. 13:05 was your best strike.

The sparks are all the same temperature. The only difference is more sparks or less sparks

Blackbeard and Procamptek are the two top dogs. I like Procamptek myself. Also either learn how to strike a ferro rod with a large knife or lose it and get a quality striker. You need more and bigger sparks and you can't be knocking your tinder all over like that in a real situation.

If you follow the directions of Black Beard, it does say to fluff of the rope fibers like you did the Squatch. You also do not need that much. You have a great Ferro Rod and Striker, you should use it. You not getting enough sparks on the products. Black Beard Works, I use it every weekend. Have you tried Black Beards New fire Plugs and Compared it too Production Hangers Fire Plugs? That might be a good video??? Fast Fire Stick by Production Hanger is the same product is everyone's Fire Plugs Good Luck

I've been making my own fire rope and fire starters for quite some time. It's not rocket science and they are all made of the same materials. Some natural fiber, soaked and wax 🤷. Including Blackbeard. It's not like they have some kind of proprietary blend that burns longer or easier than any other. They just recently called me out when I called out with their product is and how easy it is to make. Said that they will send me the retail cost of their plunder kit if I could build an equivalent kit under their retail price. I was able to source the materials for that entire kit for under $20🤣 and that was at retail cost. If I went with wholesale pricing and bulk purchasing I could build a crapload of that kit for under 14 apiece, yet they charge 120 retail 🤔. Not saying that they don't work. But they're WAY overpriced for what it is it's just rope soaked in wax. The actual cost of the rope and wax blend is literally just a couple of cents per stick. Most of the cost of the kit comes from the arc lighter and the Ferro rod which are also able to be sourced cheap. Blackbeard isn't all of that and a bag of chips. They are just another fire starter and all you are paying for is the name. Same difference between Nike and New balance. Same materials you just pay for the damn name and people jump on the bandwagon🤷. Not to mention they're non environmentally friendly wrap that they put around the sticks. People don't often pick up their trash when using stuff like this. At least fast fire uses paperboard.

I hate how he could even keep the control group the water and striker in control he did everything so baby on the first one then soaked tf out the other two
@slowwound2656

You should always carry a bic lighter as well. Even without fuel in it, it will start any of these with just the striker. Dont get me wrong i like my ferro rod. Lighters are just easier, and should always be the first option in an emergency.

So in reality the shavings are never going to be dunked in water sure the stick might be but then you wipe it off shave it then mess w.the fibers I like the video i dont understand why youd submerge the fibers like that
@theghost7083
@theghost7083 2 года назад
Hey turkeyfootkid ! I appreciate the feedback , I was just doing what each company claimed it can do , Those companies took the fibers and dunked it into water and lit it afterwards , so I was checking if it was really true ,

Dudes trying to be cool using that big knife as a striker when he should have been using an appropriate tool and he would have been able to get enough force and friction to cause enough sparks to catch them up properly.

I realise that some of you guys are in love with the fire starter that you spent money on--but claiming that he wasn't using the correct ferrorod techniques is nonsense! He found out which one was clearly the best! Buy that one!
