I actually think it comes from his tennis background. In tennis, there are a LOT more opportunities to finish the point, and aggressive shots are rewarded a lot more. I think the reason a lot of tennis player (myself included) sometimes call pickleball boring is because of how safe you have to play. In tennis, the best play is often very dynamic with a lot of movement and aggression. In pickleball, the best play is often very stagnant with a lot of solid and safe shots. I hate to say it, but pickleball is just less exciting (especially doubles), and Sock clearly feels the need to make it exciting.

Lulz who cares? It’s entertainment. His play is entertaining. Shows what’s possible when you push to the edges of the game. You want to watch boring technical pickelball of all things? Johns is on the other side of the net just watch him.

Duong had a lot of unforced errors in their single's match. Pretty much giving the first game away to Sock. It's part of the game. Stick to your strength even if it means losing a lot of points. Yes, can back off a bit, but then, you are playing not to lose.

Exactly. He's the new media's darling, but he makes a lot of unnecessary stupid unforced errors. How can you play at the pro level and not know how to dink successfully? Unbelievable. I've seen very good amateur players play better than Sock. They don't have a famous name though.
