I’ll never forget when I was sitting with my brother and he was trying to quote this poem and he said the first avocado instead of the first time. We later there and laughed so hard. Felt so amazing. Last time I saw him he gave me the biggest hug he’s ever given me. I miss him. I miss him rapping fast I miss him showing me you. We connected through you. And I thank you for that. MAK LIVES
Whenever I listen to Watsky poetry, I feel like no matter what happens, everything will be okay. I just feel like I can connect with him on a personal level even though I've never seen the guy face-to-face in my entire life.
Years ago back when I was in Jr high I saw some of Watskys stuff, his poems and stuff. And a little later I saw his rap stuff and grabbed the Watsky Album, and later the A New Kind of Sexy album. But it wasn't until Nothing like the first time. The album to this day is still the thing I come back to, and this poem... I've listened to it a thousand times. I showed my girlfriend his music, and she started to like it, we went to go see him at the Give a Hater a Hug tour and made a promise to try to see him every time he came to town. We got engaged and eventually saw him again at the Invisible inc concert and asked him if he would come to our wedding. He said he would try, and if it wasn't for COVID, we would have sent that invite. You've been a big part of not only my life but so many others. Congrats on completing the trilogy George. I can only hope you'll still be doing awesome stuff so we can come and support you in those adventures.
There’s nothing like the first time, but there’s damn sure nothing like the last time. Thank you for the years and years of entertainment and support through just living your best life and releasing life changing music. Good luck in your next adventure Watsky
U open my mind in ways I've only dreamed of being possible. I used to live in fear of first times. Avoiding them at all costs. U make me realize how much I've been missing. U make it possible for someone who is afraid of the world to finally take the first step... Huh. There's more first times than I realized. Anyway... From this one girl you will probably never know.. Thank you watsky. With all of my itty bitty heart. Thank you. U may never know the impact you have had on my life.
I found this a few years ago, and I've recently come across it again. On a related note, I've recently broken up with my first boyfriend of a little over a year and half. Thank you, Watsky. Thank you for this.
Your spoken word deserves so much more attention. I stumbled across your poems and learned them all by heart long before I even knew you made music. I'll admit, when I first heard your rap, I was not a fan. I've never really liked rap, mostly because the lyrics are usually shit. But once I started to really listen to yours they became my favorite songs. Still though, your spoken word will always be the best in my opinion. And I'm so mad that your spoken word tour didn't come to Vegas. If I'd had the money I would have gone to whatever show was in the closest city.
The line "Here, I only have eyes for you" makes me cry every time. I used to listen to this and think God, the girl who inspired him to write these beautiful words is a goddam fool if she let him go. This spoke to me on the deepest level the first time I heard it. Truly nothing like the first time!!
It’s 3/3/23 , I listened to this for the first time a few days ago, it keeps getting put it my recommended feed and I watch it every single time. Absolutely amazing I cannot wait to hear nothing like the last time
Listening to this after seeing his final show of the Intention tour. Thank you for the art, thank you for the memories, Thank you for the life, never leaving the crowd sedentary, And if the journey's over then I'm sad but I'll let it be Cuz there'll never be one greater than my GOAT George Watsky
George Watsky can do the one thing that many people have tried to do and failed: Make a point. He knows how our generation ticks. He knows what we've done as kids and teenagers. All because he was there with us as we went through our "First Times." And he sums it up in beautiful rhymes.
WATSKY he IS one of the greats in my eyes. shakespear tupac and so many others and yet he hasnt even hit his peak i see him going alot farther. PLEASE keep it up watsky.
I used to hate poetry... watsky has changed my perspective on literature and life. one day I'll be famous and maybe I'll get to sit down and talk to him about it
“Nothing like the first time” feels to me like a hurt and angry soul starting to understand the nuances of being an emotional being. While “ nothing like the last time” feels like a healed soul, looking back at all the hurt and anger and seeing how much of it was from deep within yourself.
i love how you put so much emotions into it and how everyone came reflect to it because some how in a way everyone has been there and lived it and just that makes people adore so much more keep doing what you're doing
One of the things that I really love about you is that you are honest. Nothing is really sugar coated, you phrase everything better but its still the general idea that I was thinking. You put things into perspective. I also love that so many people love you. You are doing fucking poetry man! Real poetry and people are understanding it. In my english class in high school no one liked when we had to read poetry. YOU ARE OPENING POETRY TO A WHOLE NEW CLASS OF PEOPLE and you are changing lives
This was the first time I watched George Watsky. Boy, have I come far since then...the first time was perfect; but the second and the third were forever.
"I'd pop my eyes out and give them to you. cuz i only have eyes for you. and everytime you pulled to get change out i would wink at you" last sentence made me LOL good stuff man
I've watched this video so many times, I've seen George perform it, it's played at least once a day on my iPod, and only tonight I've really understood these incredible words. It's the first time I've actually completely 'got' them. I've felt myself fading for about 5 months, but knowing that someone can so eloquently put into words what I am feeling and show me that I'm not alone, makes me feel more like me again. George, thank you. :)
Beautiful. Also, ow. Memories of the first times are nice... but if they're things you miss and are lost then it stings. Like a dull throbbing in the pit of my stomach. I teared up, but I also smiled. So thank you.
George, your poems make my day everytime I hear a new one. Your poems are relatable to me, an average teenager, with a normal life, nothing super special, just a face. I love this poem especially, because the first time is always more perfect than this one time. You need more poems. They inspire me to live with more of a purpose.
you, sir, have just earned a subscriber. right when you finished the first line I was hooked. I didn't realize 4 minutes had already passed when you were done. keep it up
The vocabulary of any human (or animal) language in no way describe the perfection every time you produce a piece of art. Therefore, I will stop now with a meager "Thank You."
I long thought poetry was dead. Being a poet my self I'm glad to see someone with heart and drive . This poem reminds me of a poem I've wrote for an ex. I think you'd appreciate.
