Finally experienced a Centurion Lounge for the first time yesterday at SEA! Even through there was no full food service (now grab-n-go), spending time there instead of the terminal seating was GREAT.
Just want to say you’ll always get a thumbs up from me. Always great advise and am closing on my first home in a few days. Lots of thanks and love from my Family to yours. Happy Holidays/Merry 🎄 Christmas!
@@TerrySteiner you are correct. I have been a member for 25 years. The only other caveat is to be mindful of bankruptcy. Amex will not approve you in the future nor allow you to receive a card under another account.
I’ve seen all over RU-vid about plastic and getting huge amount of points by paying rent, utilities, loans, etc. good to know before I actually did this.
The issue isn't plastiq. It's people using PayPal Key to use Plastiq for categories AmEx restricts. You can pay rent using AmEx and plastiq directly. People were using PPK and Plastiq to pay AmEx cards with the same AmEx cards to rack up points. You can't look at Plastiq's site to see what AmEx allows
AMEX does not us to use their card for automobile payments. I assume that only applies to car loan payments. Does AMEX prohibit the use of their cards for an automobile purchase? For example, if paying cash for a car, does AMEX allow us to charge the entire purchase price on an AMEX Platinum card, or an other AMEX card with no purchase limits?
AMEX wouldn’t have any problem with it, the car dealership certainly will not be happy with this. On a $30,000 car AMEX charges the merchant about 2.5%? There’s just not very much markup in new cars for dealerships to pay this unexpected fee.
I bet all those people abuse it are really crying now if they don't have the money to pay all of that credit off and/or ruining their account history average.
Biggest single point earning transaction aside from ones that hit a SUB would be paying my rent on my freedom flex with PPK, so I maxed the category spend pretty easily
Whoa! I was not aware Paypal could be used to pay rent with Amex. I knew mortgages were not allowed, but rent is good news. Do HOA fees count as rent? 🤔
So just to be clear, if someone uses their amex with paypal key to pay on plastiq something that amex does allow (like rent) it should not trigger RAT? I'm asking because I think if you use paypal key and it codes as a debit card then plastiq takes a smaller fee
There’s always gonna be people who skirt the rules to get an advantage in anything that we do. I’m glad they caught these “rule breakers.” Everyone should play on a level field.
I don’t think so. These indiviudals are playing the game and taking opportunites and leveraging certain methods to get the most out of the system. I say, just try not to get caught.
@@mr.personal-ity Thanks for reinforcing my point. “just try not to get caught” implies that it’s illegal or breaking the rules. If it’s on the up and up, why not do it in the open? Why do they need to not get caught? And all this is making Amex rethink their whole benefits system which will hurt everyone in the end. I’m sure this is one of many reasons out there that cards get nerfed.
@@d05wtt I won't get into an argument. If there's a way to find some loopholes in the system and you end up "breaking the rules", so what? So long as it's not illegal i.e. Jailtime. It's just playing the game. They walk the thin grey line. Think of all the loopholes in taxes, real estate, loans. It's being opportunistic, it's just a different mindset.
@@mr.personal-ity “So what”...is Amex is shutting down their accounts. They’ve been caught and they’re no longer customers/clients of Amex or their benefits have been taken away. I mean, isn’t it obvious to you? So Amex thought this was egregious enough to kick them out. There was no warning or cease and desist letter apparently because if there were, this wouldn’t be a story. And btw, by responding to me with your first comment, YOU made it an “argument,” not me.
been with them a LONG time, this is so true! this year amex def messed with me by these top secret spending limits on rose gold and suddenly they just raised it higher than before - will let this year slide as they have gone above + beyond for me over the years! so mafia!
The only time I somewhat game the system is when I buy a somewhat expensive item from Best Buy. Like the XSX and PS5. $500 items. I’ll go to the grocery store and pickup a $500 BB gift card to get 4x on. Although I’m better off doing that through Amazon right now. Point being, sometimes I get gift cards at the grocery store to get more points out of a purchase. I don’t think it’s against the rules but I don’t do it often because I know Amex has a low tolerance for a lot of things.
That falls into “manufactured spending” and i would avoid doing this at all costs. AMEX no longer pays category bonuses for gift card purchases and will deny sign up bonuses if you purchase even a single gift card during the initial sign-up period. Their RAT Team has even shut down whole account portfolios of people who took the practice way too far. Most MS practitioners have left AMEX altogether due to the hassles. It’s definitely tempting to want to try it especially since it may seem you could “cover up” the practice by buying inside of a grocery store, but i still wouldn’t take the risk.
