Waverley Paper Recycling 

In April 2016 while I was between jobs and doing some truck videos, I focused part of a Wednesday morning on Waverley Council. I was interested in catching up with one of their older Iveco rear loaders and one of their newer Mercedes Benz rear loaders, with intention to upload this footage of the Econic model sooner than later being something new and different to the Aussie market. Here that video capture is, finally over 6 years later, with the Mercedes Econic now a settled product on Aussie shores. I understand neighbouring Waverley and Randwick councils were the first buyers of the Mercedes Econic in the country, both ordering a group of 8 and 6 respectively, with MacDonald Johnston UrBin rear load compactor bodies for all. Waverley’s initial truck was delivered in early 2013, but since then the council has received a fresh batch of UrBin/Econic units to replace the original vehicles as scheduled.
Working alongside about 7 short wheelbase Garwood/Hino rear loaders which do tighter access areas, litter bins and clean-up, the bigger Mercs look after the majority of domestic and commercial garbage, recycling and garden waste collections. Old truck 510 in this upload I found on duty in the tree lined streets of Bondi Beach, working through part of a recycling run. This specific week the blue lid bins for paper and cardboard were being collected, whereas the alternate week bottles and containers are collected from the yellow lid 140/240L bins. The original Merc Econic fleet was the last order the council got with orange body colour trucks, so today all the new equipment is all white with different educational messages displayed. Thanks to the driver and three runners for being cool with the videos and keeping the action going, noting there was actually an extra 4th bloke on this truck that morning.
