Before and after comparison and review of the Wavetrac limited slip diff for the Astra VXR. Plus the girlfriend's reaction as she holds the camera for the "after" drive!
Yeah got a Wavetrac in my Vectra VXR, totally different car. However what i will say this doesn't eliminate wheel spin completely, it spins both wheels rather than just one so don't expect it too, but i wouldn't go back now. First time I gave it some round a corner it pulled me into the corner and I ended up at the other side of the line because I wasn't expecting it. The v6 is a bit of a torque machine so it has quite bad torque steer on uneven roads compared to the standard diff which is pretty non existent. 1/4 mile has improved drastically too. would highly recommend a LSD for any performance FWD car, even if it is a bit pricey.
😀Hi James, Thanks for all your videos on your VXR really informative and your matter-of-fact presentation style much appreciated. Was wondering if when you have the gearbox rebuilt, did you do anything with the Clutch & Pressure plate and/or the Dual Mass Flywheel? Cheers mate, from down under
I didn't at the time, the bite point was high but the clutch wasn't slipping. Recently when having the engine rebuilt I also got a Helix 6 paddle sprung clutch and TTV single mass flywheel fitted though. Thanks for the kind words!
Great video mate, I've ordered a Wavetrac for my Fabia. People are split into two camps, "it will transform the car" and "it's not worth it on your 1.2". I've decided to go for it, I've tuned my car to 200bhp and been doing track days and enjoy early morning B road blasts. Got plans for more engine changed in the future too. Would love to hear more impressions of the Wavetrac and in particular track performance if you've got it out on track
You'll love the Wavetrac, they make such a huge difference. I should be taking it on track at the start of next year so no insight there yet, but for example exiting a roundabout (or on tight corners on B roads) you go from traction control kicking in at half throttle, vs with the diff you can plant your foot the entire way around through 2nd gear with no traction loss. And 200hp is definitely enough to notice a difference, don't worry about that!
@@monkey11477 I have no idea yet honestly 😅 I've marshalled Donington a few times and that's my closest track but I don't know if they have any beginner friendly days for my first one, will have to look into it more Three Sisters is only a small track but they have some beginner days I think
@@JamesBalazs I can recommend a day ran by Track Obsession, done a couple with them (Brands Hatch Indy and Snetterton 300) very helpful and friendly, they include professional photos and a few laps tuition from a current BTCC or GT driver. They are all open pit lane too and never over subscribed
M&T Transmissions list the gearbox rebuild + bearing upgrade for £650 on eBay. Some places will do the job cheaper but the price of petrol to drive hours to get it done elsewhere would've made up the difference either way for me personally. A Wavetrac LSD costs about £1100 from Courtenay Sport, and could be fitted DIY on your driveway easily enough or for 1-2hrs labour by a garage. I got mine fitted at the same time as the gearbox rebuild to save having to change the gearbox oil twice. Hope this helps :)
Nice video but the comparisons aren't the same. 1st vid was done in the wet, 2nd in the dry. Obviously, for me who also owns an Astra VXR which also needs a gearbox rebuild along with clutch Id be looking at an LSD but your comparison really doesn't help. My VXR performs pretty much the same as yours in the wet but also performs just like your dry vid without LSD. Sorry to be negative about your video but comparisons need to have to same conditions on the same road surface to be fair.
My comparison is based on a month of driving the car in the dry every day. While the before was filmed on a rainy day, I never once mentioned wet performance in the comparison. Both before and after I'm talking about dry weather, where before the ESC would still always cut power in corners.
