Nice pattern. But what a waste of that yellow thread. Make a base and the rough form with a much thicker thread. Then cover this with the thread in the color you wish and make the endform. All the fly tyers I follow make it look so easy to keep the material off the eye of the hook haha. That's got to be my #1 problem aside from breaking everything lol.
Follow Kelly Galloup's rule; start the thread where you don't want to encroach beyond. The space forward of where the thread was started may be for a thorax, a wing post, or the head of the fly. So, as you tie the fly, typically starting from the tail and moving forward toward the eye, you don't go beyond where you started the thread. That will assure you will have room for wings or the thread head, etc. This is especially important if you need to spin hair for a head like on a sculpin or a hopper.
Nice patern but I would just put the dots on the outside with a marker if it were me been using rubber bands for years to do basically the same thing but less thread
